Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

Correct. We are trying to be close to the PP. Also, the closer it gets to the end, the less time we tend to stay at the bar and the more time we tend to stand in line.

Edited to add: We go through this every year. We wish there was just a nice, cheap corner bar in DT St. Paul (close to the PP).

Here's a real good thought from the PP site.

Or Marydale...Mary (sister) Dale (brother)....I was in Merriam Park last night. I did not see anything but a lot of people had dug by the baseball fields.

I like firefox for the add ons. Yeah, loading too many slows the startup down, but ya gotta pick and choose what you really want to use.

I'm going to hold out hope still that it is not at Como. I know, I've been in this position twice before, and I'm probably wrong, but I think they may really be trying to fool us. According to Merriam Webster, "menagerie" can simply mean "a collection of things" and doesn't have to be specific to animals or a zoo. If you substitute the word zoo, "a zoo of fun" wouldn't even quite make sense. But "a collection of fun, wild and tame" would. The clue could be talking about the activities at the park, both summer and winter, wild (nature oriented) and tame (man made).

bring the ice auger, the rubber mallet and dynamite- I'll bring the fish

I feel the same way- I'm also wondering if you can link this with the 'smell pretty sweet' clue, and perceive it as flowers, wild and tame....

Then again, I think of "The Glass Menagerie" and think of ice sculptures, which puts me right back at Como.

I think Cherokee has potential.

"Sister and Brother" could fit who found the medallion was found by when it was hidden in Cherokee in 1998.

"where a body can be benched" = "Chair"-o-kee

Allison,

menagerie wild = Zoo

menagerie tame = Carousel

Both collections of fun, one man-made; one not.
Thu, 01/25/2007 - 11:37 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

There are tame animals in the zoo as well (ala Sparky) so I don't think we need to bring the carousel into it. But the phrase "a zoo of fun" seems odd to me. It seems in this case menagerie might just mean "a collection" and not be reffering to a zoo. And if it's not referring to a zoo, then it's possible it's not at Como.
Thu, 01/25/2007 - 11:41 AM Permalink
green

That's possible. Definitely.

But as you point out, "A collection of fun wild or tame." Not "A zoo of fun."

You could say "A collection of fun, zoo or carousel."

Also, the question that comes to mind with "A collection of fun wild or tame," is "What's a fun collection of wild things?" "What's a fun collection of tame things?"

Collection wild - Zoo

Collection tame - Carousel

To me I don't see it as substituting zoo or carousel for "wild" or "tame," but rather answering "What's a wild or tame collection? A zoo and a carousel.

And both fit the usual definition or thought of animals.

Or it could mean the rides...some are wild some are tame, like the kiddie rides.

What bard are we channeling in como? Didn't someone say a bard was some armor or some decorated thing for a horse? That could refer to the carousel.

This standing figure of Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller was dedicated in 1907. The sculpture was donated by U.S. German Societies of Saint Paul and private citizens of German descent to commemorate the renowned German philosopher, poet, and dramatist, Johann von Schiller. He was born in 1759 and is known for his enthusiastic optimism. His works gave vitality to the lives of many Germans.

A menagerie of fun wild and tame..

Could they be refering to the xcel center? It would fit wild perfectly, and the old civic center used to host the shrine circus (menagerie).

Okay thinking more on hansel and gretel. They fled into the woods (woodsy retreat). The bard could be the "Brothers Grimm" (sister and brother, Demented?).

Warm and smell pretty sweet. Possibly Candyland in downtown, unless there's another candy shop around. Only thing there is I don't know of a park close to that, it's on Wabasha..

Okay, if the first clue is refering to Hansel and Gretel (even if I have no idea where that's supposed to take you) I think I have a good idea who wrote it.

I like whoever put out the Cherokee mix....

as stolen from the coolercrew.com webisite...

Found by brother and sister combo, Steve Doyle and Maureen Hursey, who took home the $4,000 prize because they had registered a button. Well, of course they registered a button – they had only been hunting for the medallion since they were kids. And, finally, at 1.45 p.m. on February 4 in Cherokee Park, the 32-year-old boy and 37-year-old girl were able to rest this childhood dream.

I like that idea...
