Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

All the phoneless, cellessness gave to this thought...

The workhouse once stood about where the pool at Como is now. No more workhouse, no more cells.

Saw Cathy Hogan.

Had a great breakfast of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. Quite yummy!

The walk thru the park could be a lark if you continue west past the cellless place towards what once used to be the channel of the bard.

That said... No Jake,no nobuddy. I was out there alone, and you know what THAT means! (However, I was out alone yesterday where when going back did run into some 'Heads.)

Mappy, you're just upset that you can't get the clues to match the Southern Zone where you were looking yesterday.

Kitch is the KING of google!

My qwest (hee) has just added more parks, not narrowed them down!

I may just spend the day revolting against birds and bards with cell phones.

I can't stop thinking about stupid Phalen.

Mappy Gooey, I didn't see Jake. :frown:

Just saw you. Had I seen Jake, I'da been hot on his heels. Even though he was in the wrong area o'the park. Eventually he's gonna git to the rite spot.

I know east is anything towards Lexington and west is anything towards Hamline. It's when I get deeper into the park itself, I can get turned around in directions.

I picked up my daughter last night around 1:00 AM and drove through some parks. I think we both saw spectral orbs in Como!

Just past the gate on Lexington, under the bridge, I saw a light and told her someone was hunting under there. She looked and saw nothing. I looked and it was gone! And no dark outline of a person. :worried:

Then passing the golf course she said, I see a light down there. I looked and it was gone! She said, "well I saw something a second ago".

Seriously, the place is teeming with orbs! :pbpt:

But then I see ghosts too. :sheepish:

    1. Not much snow..

    2. One hunt over in 3 days...

Under these circumstances, it seems odd for our "pied piper" to narrow it down this quickly.

I don't know that narrowing it down to Como is narrowing it down much.

And we are needing a 12 clue hunt in 9 clues so general rules about how much is given usually by clue 4 would not pertain to this hunt.

    Interesting... to go with Lark?

In early Greek art the Sirens were represented as birds with large heads and scaly feet, and sometimes manes, of lions. Later, they were represented as female figures with the legs of birds, with or without wings playing a variety of musical instruments, especially harps. The 10th century encyclopedia Suda [1] says that from their chests up Sirens had the form of sparrows, below they were women, or, alternatively, that they were little birds with women's faces. Birds were chosen because of their characteristic, beautiful voices. However, later in history Sirens were sometimes also depicted as beautiful women (whose bodies, not only their voices, are seductive), or even as mermaids (half woman, half fish). The fact that in some languages (such as Spanish, French, Italian, Polish or Portuguese) the word for mermaid is Siren, Sirena, Syrena or Sereia adds to this confusion. In English however, "Siren" does not commonly denote "mermaid".

CoNo Avenue used to go all the way to Hamline. A 'channel' remains that's now taken up with a 'lark walk.'

Or, if you'd channel CoNo Avenue on, it would hit Hamline.

I've been thinking and reading about the siren vs. Shakespeare thing. While in some mythologies a siren can be a mermaid, I think that in the sonnets (particularly 119) Shakespeare was always referring to the "dark lady" when he used the word siren.

The dark lady was who he was infatuated with after he no longer wrote about the young man (in the sonnets). You can google more about her/him if you are interested in the whole history and analysis.

It says heed the siren, do not revolt.

Although in mythology of course, the sirens lead you to death.

So how do you feel about siren being literal as opposed to metaphorical?
    Sat, 01/27/2007 - 9:12 AM Permalink
    green

Going west, if you heed the siren you're going to come to rocks (if a siren was heeded the ship would end up on the rocks/grotto), and then a walk in the park that's a lark - the path (walkway) going thru the Audubon place.

Or, "A walk in the park could be a lark if you heed the siren and don't revolt."

You know, Kitch, as I had breakfast I looked at the Hamm's fountain thighy. That things rocks/a grotto and going towards it takes you away from Lexington.

I thought about it, but the other side of the park seems, to me, to fit better. But, maybe the other features just have to be in the park.
