Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

Just think...you find it, you win lunch with him...and it's all fodder for another one of his medallion columns.

Do we HAVE to have lunch with him if we win?

These are serious-minded people free of larcenous souls. The clue writer could have a field day catering precisely to the hunter who desires this to be as difficult as possible

HeH Here Here!!

which means you are paying $2 to get lost in Minneapolis ice.

now theres a way to look at it!

Or maybe the clues would invoke long-lost street names or neighborhoods or the churches and ballparks that once populated downtown.

OMG!!! I've been 'secretly' working on a book - I got the ok from Empson to adjust his book after he dies (lol- 30 years)- but in the meantime I've been working on one that I was gonna title: The Lost Street Names of St. Paul

I'm floored- now others will jump on that bandwagon- I need to chop chop!

AND there is someone already working on putting together all the cool lost ballparks in St Paul.

I think just me. I wanted to post something there, and see if he would even notice.

Your posts get emailed, then they get put on the site... How lame...

So, I am sure he will see my post, change it, and then post it to make me look stupid. (Not too difficult)

Heavy-Duty-Hardcore hunting site. First thing you ask? "Where is it." Dum-dumdum-dum

Ian - I see you're not camped out at Como - yet.

I get this odd feeling that the tides will turn again and put us all at Battle Creek.

BC and IM are connected in the sense that there's no artificial boundary like a road or anything. Also, for the satellite images, try Google maps and click on satellite or hybrid, the resolution seems better than Google Earth.

Sun, 01/28/2007 - 7:49 PM Permalink

It's Larry Hodgins (not sure of the spelling now). He was a mayor of the city, a bit of a poet - bard and his nickname was Larry Ho.

Another 90 minutes before the clue. Ugh! The times between one clue and the next have seemed longer than usual this year...though I know its not so.

Thanks Terry. St Paul must have loved him with all this recognition in two parks.

I did find that he was mayor twice. Once from 1918 - 1922 and then again from 1926 - 1930.

He was born in Hastings, died in 1937 in St. Paul and is buried at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings.

Doesn't appear that way. He was a lawyer by profession and belonged to the Evangelical church.

Sun, 01/28/2007 - 8:20 PM Permalink

I just found reference to that information but can't find the actualy poem.

FYI - It's lightly snowing again.

should we start some bets, I bet the clue writer just dances around the park until the final clue and it will then be a mad dash. Someone who never really looks except for the enticement of money will pop in and push a stick around and find it in 10 minutes.

heh....

We were at that 98 rehash... not that I think anybody would remember, because we never actually talked to anybody for very long...

that may have been the first time me and Steve showed up, without any face-paint on....

we parked super-far away, walked up, chatted to a couple of people, stole some hot-dogs, a couple cans of pop, and left....

we were scared to be seen without any paint on...
