I'm reading further into this "spotters" thread and the guy who started it just described the guy I saw. Parked on the side of the road reading a newspaper and not looking up even when people walked by the car.

The Mrs. and I would like to present our case for Highland Park:

WE BELIEVE THAT OVERALL BASEBALL THEME OF THE CLUES 10 FROM A “META CLUE” THAT YIELDS “HOMER” IN CLUE #4:

Clue #6

A famous singer (WARWICK ST.) and a diamond dinger (HOMER ST. OR {LEW} FORD PKWY)

Might put you oh so close to the spot

With the whites of your eyes (OUT OF THE CORNERS OF YOUR EYES OR ALONG THE PERIPHERY OF THE PARK; ALSO, COULD MEAN EDGECUMBE ST) you should look for the prize

Within this convenient plot (EASY TO GET TO)

Clue #5

Over hill and dale (HILLCREST AVE.& THE ACTUAL HILLY TOPOGRAPHY OF PARK) hit (BASEBALL HIT) the trail

with a handy locating device (MAP, SHOVEL, ETC. ALSO, CAN LOCATE THE PARK EASILY BY THE WATER TOWER)

fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes (FEEDING THE MULTITUDES=BOOYA)

and put your victory on ice. (SCHULTZ ICE RINK IN HIGHLAND)

Clue #4

A walk (BASEBALL TERM) in the park (BALLPARK) can be a lark

If cell phones are left at home (HOME RUN=HOMER)

Heed the siren (POLICE STATION IN HIGHLAND) of your desirin'

And do not revolt (LEXINGTON ST.) against this poem

Clue #3

Success on the third (3RD BASE) clue will never do

We had to stash a second (2ND BASE)

Round (ROUND THE BASES) you go if you seek to know

Where swatters of orbs (BASEBALL, GOLF) are beckoned

Clue #2

If you're thinking big (HIGHLAND=BIG PARK) you're sure to dig

Near flora with growing pain (GROWING PANE=GREEN HOUSE/NURSERY ON W 7TH ST. ACROSS FROM RIVERSIDE PARK ADJOINING HIGHTLAND. ALSO, HIGHLAND PARK ITSELF HAS UNDERGONE LOTS OF CONSTRUCTION)

Winter or summer is never a bummer (EVOKES OTTO HUMMER ST.)

A menagerie of fun wild or tame (MENAGERIE OF FUN=CIRCUS JUVENTAS, MN WILD ON W 7TH)

Clue #1

Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder

To hunt hard from first (FIRST BASE) to last clues

Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery

Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes (CROSS COUNTRY SKIS, ICE SKATES)

To some its demented, for all unprecedented

But huntersÂ’ thirst (HIGHLAND WATERTOWER) must be quenched (TONS OF TAVERNS ALONG W 7TH)

Tell sister and brother weÂ’ve hidden another

In a park where a body can be benched (NEARBY BLEACHERS, HIGHLAND SR HIGH)

Our 2nd prize? DonÂ’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half

So get out there even if itÂ’s snowy

And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --

A meal with our own Clueless Joey (JOE LIVES IN HIGHLAND PARK)

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue

Think of a woodsy retreat (PINEHURST, BEECHWOOD, JUNIPER, ACTUAL PARK TOPOGRAPHY)

It wonÂ’t be so hard if you channel the bard (HOMER OR JOE=BARD,

YouÂ’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet (ITÂ’S HIDDEN IN AN AVON PERFUME BOX; ALSO, SWEET COULD BE PEARSONÂ’S CANDY ACROSS THE STREET)

OT, did you each see him at different times or same time each day?

And what park was this????
Mon, 01/29/2007 - 5:23 PM Permalink
OT

:frown:

Well "they" claim that the fish doesn't feel pain, but last summer at the lake there were some fish tied to the dock that needed to be cleaned. I used to clean lots of fish so figured I'd do it.

I started scaling that fish and it was staring at me with that one eye in kind of a pleading way. :frown: I had to stop. Went and got one of the kids to finish the deed.

Think I've cleaned my last fish.

In the Hidden Falls, the clue and explanation was the following:

Clue No. 7 / If you need a clue, what you should do

Is focus on the object of your search

As a dramatic device it could entice

You near our treasured perch

Explanation: Take a deep breath, hunters and Clueless One: the "dramatic device'' is a reference to Alfred Hitchcock's term for a key plot element — the thing that everyone seeks — known as the "MacGuffin." In our case, it is, of course, the medallion. We hoped the word would lead a few film-buff hunters to the Magoffin Avenue entrance to Hidden Falls.

Don't you think it is interesting that this current last clue also references a plot? Is there another convenient plot device that could lead us to the park?

OT- I love to fish, but I have a hard time with the death of any creature.

I even use special hooks that twist in their mouths and hook them in the very corner of the mouth, so they can be unhooked, and released.

I've caught 45# fish this exact way.

Dan's the hunter, I'm the nester- plain an simple.

So-ho, I'm pretty sure I'm in the wrong park anyway, but the clues fit just as well as anyplace else......

I thought of that this morning when I read the clue. I also tried to think of classic plots. I was going man vs. man, man vs. nature, all kinds of things I was supposed to learn when I thought I was an English major. But I agree there is something there.

Do you know any English majors?

FUNNY...WHEN I FIRST NOODLED THIS CLUE...I THOUGHT OF THAT....

ALSO OF THE "DEVICE" I TOOK IT AS GPS IDEA AS WELL....

The only plot I've been able to think of is the siren call leading the sailor to the rocks or in trouble. It's the possible piece of literature we've been given so it would be convenient.

I don't think I'm going to go to the PP again this year.

After my blatant disregard for others, I think it'd be prudent to stay away.

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to stay home and see to the wolf.

You mean like the one where it could never be at Indian Mounds because of the burial mounds?

Or it could never be in a suburb because of the issue Maplewood had with hunters tearing up Wakefield?

Well, Mounds still seems like as good a place as any.....if you have an aversion to Como. Hadn't thought about looking at 'convenient plot' from a literary point of view -- and I don't even know that a short story would qualify....but I think it's worth checking out the area of the park near short street all the same.
