Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

All the more reason to have the main part of the rehash indoors and stay outside for just a while.

I'm sure we can find someplace that will work- the question is about the potluck- which is tradition....

I do not like the mulitple baseball references, body being benched, swatters, diamond dinger. I feel like there is something missing or why the heck would the CW overstate it so much?

Evil are you telling us to go back down to Crosby this year?

Agreed! Lil' roaster will get too cold and I don't own anything warm enough to stand outside for that long.

he's doubled up on a lot of things this time around...not only with baseball references but also (s)he has also said twice that they've hidden a second medallion. Like they are saying that these double clues maybe lead to two different parks and we'll have to wait until the last clue (from first to last clues) to figure out which park its in....

No, I just think its interesting is all. I'm still doing a drive-by of Crosby on my home from Work tonight.

Personally, I think we've all said the reasons why they're not all referring to baseball. I have what I think are good explanations for them all, and that's what is keeping me in Como.

Allison Wonderland

I'll have to double check, but we could probably retreat to my Mason Lodge. It's really close to Como, just a couple of miles from Central. It has a full kitchen and we could meet there and it would be warm. It's located a block east from Gabe's on Front.

Crosby that year also had the word "Gnash" which meant Crosby Stills and Nash. So they do like songs/writers/singers

OTiS

I'm starting to wonder if the clue writer isn't making these clues sound like baseball on multiple levels knowing that once we're stuck on that thought everything else will come back to us thinking "baseball"

Dinger -

* A type of bell-headed monster from the children's television show, Sesame Street

* a slang term for a home run in baseball

* the Colorado Rockies' mascot

I mean it could be what it sounds like it means... but ugh

FUNNY KT!

I think oh so close has to do with the famous singer. I don't know how, but that seems to be important that they said oh so close and not close. so far googling oh so close has come up with nada for me as far as lyrics go. well, at least lyrics that relate to a singer that would relate to a park.

Like Level in Cleveland.

ONE of those words has park two in its name. but which one, only Brass M. knows!!!!

If you are looking in that direction (I don't have time today to anagram), think about this:

The clue says, "With the whites of your eyes you should..." Maybe you are supposed to find something in the phrase, "whites of your eyes".

Or, the last line says, "Within this convenient plot". Maybe you are supposed to find something in "this convenient plot" or just "convenient plot".

Wait until you see the whites of their eyes...Savanna thinks this is finally a reference to County Road "C"

I was wondering about the pot luck too, that sounds like a viable solution.

Im working on it, I personally think Central park beause they have named every road that surrounds the d*&n thing. There has to be more to these clues though. They are intentionally harder. Whites of your eyes = where the medallion is located in the plot.

Well here's my noodle of the day

Famous singer could also be Prince= Prince of Peace Church/ Diamond Dinger- "Diamonds and Pearls" by Prince

The problem with anagramming a phrase versus a word is that a person would have to anagram it backwards to get the phrase, and the possibilities are mind boggling...
Mon, 01/29/2007 - 11:26 AM Permalink
Marleyking

"with in" sclera anagrams to "I wish Central"

last clue- "and dale" anagrams to aladden

I agree re: anagramming. I wish I could devote time to it today, but I can't. Anyway, remember when the clue anagrammed out to "it's phalen park"? If I remember right, someone from the PP boards figured that out late in the game (after we already were there). So, it is possible there is a phrase hidden somewhere.

Or, maybe using the first letters of lines or the last letters of lines. Or, maybe there is some sort of replacement code going on between the numbers in the early clues and the letters in the later clues. I don't know.

 I think he's ripped these clues apart letter by letter looking for the right one.

We're split- he's liking Central, but I (like TMK) have it figured out at Como.

"a dia mond" has aida backwards.

Clue Master

Note: I just received a call from Kitch who went to the Roseville Park & Rec office to pick up a map of Central. The P&R lady told him that there was no way that they would allow the medallion to be hidden in ANY of their parks.

He's going to let those out hunting know as well. I don't doubt her for a second. Question is, does the paper even care or are people just making the clues fit. They do seem obvious but I'm not totally convinced yet myself. And this little tidbit takes me away from there even more.
Mon, 01/29/2007 - 11:46 AM Permalink
Terry

I never believed it could be Central. Why would they give you every possible name of every possible street that might run into it or border it.

Anything that they are making that obvious just can't be right.

If there is no way its there then why are the cops not kicking us out in the day for digging up their park? :frown:
Mon, 01/29/2007 - 11:53 AM Permalink
diggin4it

That's exactly what I always thought too.

I honestly thought they would never put it in Central Park. The park signs all say "Roseville Parks" These parks are maintained by the city of Roseville, not St. Paul, not Ramsey County....but it is public land IN Ramsey county

And man-o-man these clues seem to point right to Central Park so I thought I was wrong.

hmmmmm .... now another new mystery :lipsealed:

Mold-a-rama menagerie- Did everyone see this story in todays Local section, thought the story headline was worded a bit funny- maybe this was to try and throw us off
Mon, 01/29/2007 - 11:55 AM Permalink
KT

Not to stir the pot, but why all the debate and controversy about central- would the cw/hider need to ask permission to hide it in a park? and if so- the guarded secrecy is out.

No I DON'T think it's central- but it's still pretty hard to ignore.

Hey Jaz!

I did see that. Darn near dropped my teeth. Made me actually laugh aloud. Glad I was alone in the office at the time.

What is the opposite of central
Mon, 01/29/2007 - 11:56 AM Permalink
leelabell

The problem is that the medallion could still be hidden there. The PP doesn't get permission to place the object. However, I'm still stuck on the map in the paper. If you look at it, it seems obvious that it is in St. Paul.
