Recent Clues:

Clue #1 Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins -- strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh -- 10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus -- some might say an onus --
A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet
Clue #2 If you\'re thinking big you\'re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame
Clue #3 Success on the third clue will never do
We had to stash a second
Round you go if you seek to know
Where swatters of orbs are beckoned
Clue #4: A walk in the park can be a lark
If cell phones are left at home
Heed the siren of your desirin\'
And do not revolt against this poem
Clue #5 Over hill and dale hit the trail
With a handy locating device
Fulfill your wishes like loaves and fishes
And put your victory on ice
Clue #6 A famous singer and a diamond dinger
Might put you oh so close to the spot
With the whites of your eyes you should look for the prize
Within this convenient plot
Clue #7 Don\'t turn up your noses at the city of roses
The home of the park that you seek
It\'s just north of town so come on down
Our hunt is not for the meek
Clue #8 Don\'t go mental just head for Central
Lexington Avenue will show you the way
Your spirits won\'t sag when you see the big flag
Into the trees you want to stray

I think it has been the same clue writer and the clues seem to follow the same progression throughout the last 3-4 years. I like the creativity and hidden double meanings. I know that they will never admit to the full explanation of the clues, if they did too many people would catch on and the hunts would not last as long.

They never admitted to Level in Cleveland and never mentioned that cleveland was a ruler (president) the clue fits perfectly and the puck was right there. I think the the CW likes to use double word plays and double meanings to reveal something that the masses wont solve, that makes it real fun for long noodling and a sense of accomplishment for the hunters if they figure it out. I also think it is a sense of pride for the CW if he/she can tell you right where the puck is and nobody ever figures it out, therfore I believe you will find things in the clues which really pinpoint it if you solve it. i.e. first hunt 2007.

Just my thoughts

It wasn't easy, and hardly painless, but got them out finally so I could lay my head on my pillow.

I guess the crew cut will wait for another day. :pbpt:

Thanks for asking.

Oh, and you're fun too!

I know it has been said but - the conference call thing was awesome and worked out very nice - thanks red for setting it up. thanks to the hotties who stayed all night at the paper and sent us their love.

this was a great extended hunt and reminds me of harriet/como quite a bit - this is what the CC is all about - meeting people and developing friendships. The cameraderie of it really makes it enjoyable year after year.

thanks for the fun times all

I loved this hunt!

Even with the shortened version, I think I got out more this year than any previous years. And that for me is more important than finding the medallion. Winter puts me in a bad place most of the time. :frown: But for a couple of weeks in January the medallion hunt gets me moving and gives me new energy.

And today is Feb. 1st! I equate it to August when people start to worry that Summer is almost over. So Winter is almost over! Hasn't been a bad one!

aw, from the pp's ask the cluewriter session:

Q. Do the clues sometimes mean more than what's reflected in the after-hunt summary? There's often some good stuff in there that doesn't get pointed out in the "answers". Maybe I just noodle too much. -Lori Larson

ANSWER

Our rhymes are silly, we cannot lie

There's less to them than meets the eye.

I am pretty happy with the hunt. I was so glad that they had a second one. They didn't have to. I don't know how much this hunt actually brings in as far as revenue and the fact that Roseville sounded pretty bent out of shape about it being there is probably going to cost the press some change. I thought that the clues were cryptic enough to keep people guessing. I guess that when it comes down to the last clue like that it makes one sour when they have spent time really digesting the clues and figuring out the puzzles because just anyone can go get it. This hunt has been one of the better ones and after last year's disappointment, I will take a wacky anagram that would give Stephen Hawking fits! See you all at the RHB and I think that I will try to stick around more during the year. I hope to participate in the mock hunts and get to know more of you.

You know, I've been trying to assess why the clues bug me so much. I guess it boils down to two reasons.

1) The explanations are ridiculous. I need better explanations to like the clues.

2) If the PP continues down the path of giving park, park, park, park, park, park, clues (particularly in big parks) rather than those that might narrow down the area in the park, they are going to shoot themselves in the foot. Instead of people anxiously awaiting each paper, people will just say the hell with it and wait until clue 10 to start hunting.

That being said, I still had a great time and thought it was a really, really, fun hunt.

PS There is a rumor of another Wild flag hunt sometime this year.

people will just say the hell with it and wait until clue 10 to start hunting.

and some people like Jake won't.

True that. But, most people aren't like him. They have families, jobs, etc. and can only hunt a little bit. All hunting activity will slowly move to the end of the hunt instead of earlier.

not sure about the parade. Is that the same time as the dance? Or is the dance after the parade?

I'd like to try the dance possibly, if my wife will go for it.

Clue Master

I actually used that old rake right where it appears where it was found. Although I didn't go all the way to the ground since it was heavy as hell and I was only using one hand. After looking at the spot where the finders marked on the map that the girls had, I know that's just out from where this big rake was.

Parade is before dance.

Thanks, I'll see what my wife says. I know she wont do the parade, but if she won't go to the dance, maybe I'll just do the parade. Anyone else?

Ian,

No I havent, but I do remeber Jake telling everyone that he would not have found it without me and that it was close to being in-line with the Cleveland sign.

So I guess Im not sure where you are going with this? Either you think it was a Coincidence in the clues or for some reason you feel bitter and feel like being rude.

Either way thanks for the rude comment.

I'm about 1000 posts behind---

I just wanted to drop in and say that I have soooo much to say! I have to collect my thoughts and get them all down first.

I talked with Caroline Robertson this afternoon and we missed the press conference :frown: - but its probably been posted already and you all probably know about that

Most of all I NEEEEED ALL of you to know that I'm a grateful .... for all of you...

and I am proud of everyones human kindness this hunt.

there are so many stories that I am compiling for this hunt - the conference call is bottom line Priceless! The bonfire and calls from people asking if they can bring me anything! I LOVE YOU GUYS! I probably spent 20 hours at home during this hunt - 10 days in the parks and 12 nights at Matt B's.

I am asking that someone make 3 threads please for me...

1. A borrowed or found or want back thread

for everyone who has forgotten who they got things from or want someone to know they have it. Like I have Muclucks snow pants.

2. A thread for 2007 Central memories and stories they heard

3. A thread for ANY and ALL people you have met or stories you have over the years of how someone you know knows someone---

I want to compile stories (maybe for a book of some kind)- St Paul Treasure Hunt - Six Degree of Seperation (and other hunting stories) (anything is greately appreciated). When I mentioned it to Caroline she told me I should work on it, that noone has really written about the hunters and their stories and people they've met- so here I go. My past street names book may have to wait a bit  :frown:

ie: KityKat? Is that the blond at MattyB's who knows my sister and joined the coolercrew without even knowing she was my sister?

I am calling the finders and inviting them to Re-Hash-

KITCH, "Six Degrees Of Seperation" #2, 1 Feb 2007 2:49 pm #2 we already have a favorite story thread? #1 sounds like a good idea. A book sounds great!

ian is the most gentle person a guy could meet - i dont think he was being rude.

havent seen the place jake found it - but i have been told by a couple avid hunters that have seen it that they never woudl have looked there even with lining up of cleveland - i.e. it was in a difficult area - both of these people who have seen the space also told me the only people they would have thinked to looke there was either jake or geo cachers......i cant speak for ian but i do know that he doesnt have a mean bone in his body.
