I moved Kitch's post #1 so L&AM could have it because she was bummed that she never got a #1 post. Heh
Thanks for being a good sport there Kitch.
I doubt it will though.
JUST A FEW MOVES....NOTHING MAJOR...
Ian, "Shoot the breeze with the Cooler Crew" #12714, 4 Mar 2007 12:38 pm
i'll see what i can do to clean up that post...
Ian posted a photo of a bunch of scotts seating next to the queen...
one had not underwhere under his kilt...if you know what i mean...
I deleted the photo./ post
he left able minds too?
others?
I invision a main computer help folder with perhaps a sub thread for browsers, html help, basic computer 101 type stuff, photo software, office applications, basic maintenance, etc.
I spent three years helping people with varying degrees of computer savvy, and it's amazing what people know and don't know. As part of the computer help, I wrote a monthly column in our newsletter and it often ended up being about general maintenance, backing up files, virus and anti-spy and ad ware. The person, who did the proof reading of that newsletter often commented on how much she learned and she was fairly savvy when it came to computers.
This would be a good addition to our folders here in my opinion.
something like a main folder subs down...
such as
Firefox
IE
mp3 players etc.
photo
basic html
office apps
etc??
hmm...getting cluttered
how about a link to google...I'm sorry i'm being a smart ass but seriously...half the stuff i know i google for...find the answer and fix it....its usually a royal PITA ...
for example...I know a crapload on firefox now...but i'd be damn if i could explain it.
maybe it could be called something like KC-Ares school for nongeeks.
I suspect that OT especially will have some basic things she is shy about asking elsewhere.
And I think when one finds something cool like an add-on from Firefox or a good website with helps, that link would be posted and we could end up with folks who take better care of their computer, be able to use their computer better and safer.
It's like a public service thing.
Wonders (WWW) of Computers, Geeks and Wannabe Geeks, Bits and Bytes?
Some of those cooler chick threads are never used. If anyone wants to find me - I'm all over these threads so mine could be eliminated.
The look and feel folder is another one getting moldy.
And though I see a reason in theory for a politics and a sports thread in the In the News folder, they are seldom used and isn't that all part of the news anyways? And isn't that something we can shoot the breeze about when there's something current going on?
I like that there's a photo thread. When we're up north on a dial-up connection, I can choose to open that or wait until I'm back south with a broadband connection.
I think one of the things that has happened here is because there's a thread for so many different things, that every time there gets to be a discussion or an event that creates more than a couple of posts, someone wants a thread for that topic.
Back in the PP days, we had one thread. We simply posted everything there and it seemed to work out okay. There was even an online hunt conducted with daily clues and discussion. We copied and pasted the clues in our own Word or notepad applications on our computers to keep the clues together for our own reviewing.
Most of us even learned some basic html things on that one thread. DDY created a whole page of html things and still has that available. We just bookmarked those things and went to them when we needed or wanted to do so.
I'm not suggesting that we go back to that one thread format as I do see this place as providing some more personlized places - like the Coolerhead threads - and the hunts are nice to have separate threads for, but it's the threads for every topic that seems unnecessary. I don't really understand why there are cooler chick threads for the same reason. All the news that gets shared there can be shared on the shoot the breeze thread in my opinion.
So where would you put a discussion for computer related stuff, CM?
FWIW, I do think the rant from me2 was unnecessary and out of place, but I guess we all have days when we're not at our best.
fwiw..I'm sure I'l post nonstop in this thread anyways...
I'm not going to use it to ask ???'s......
I'm thinkin' I'll use it as an "here loook at this"
What happened and what did it say?
when i deleted the "script" from my myspace page...I think it stuck to my clipboard somehow...
I than posted it by mistake....well...it really goofed up ableminds and when you clicked on ANYTHING when that post was up...it brought you outside ableminds and to this PHISHING page for myspace....was really goofy..
I called ableminds asap and they fixed it...strange.
I was bound to get caught eventually...i now have antiphishing on firefox setup.
So I'll just mention this....
Iceman has some rather nasty lyrics up in the lyrics thread. :eyeroll:
The spelling isn't much better either!
Too bad we can't moderate spelling. Or at least make the spelling button bigger for some members
Mikey's thread is a good place for some of that questionable material being it's unmoderated.

Thank you for helping direct those lyrics elsewhere. I don't want to come off sounding prudish - though I guess I am. I just find much of that to be so disrespectful to women.
