Beautiful pictures!

Our place in Wisconsin is close to the South Shore of Lake Superior so that's the lake I know. South Shore is beautiful too. The shoreline is different from the North Shore. The beaches are sandy and the kids swim there when we go.

I love the Apostle Islands!

I don't know how the kids swim that lake. That's always fricken freezing. While the Apostle Islands area is beautiful, it's still solid ice in April. The B&B's are pretty nice there though.

I've waded when they swim and it kind of feels like our lake. Our lake is spring fed and never really warms up much. It also doesn't freeze solid where the springs come in. Maybe we're just used to it.

We actually go to a spot on our lake and fill up water bottles with the water as it comes out through the rocks. I think we should bottle it.

One August in the mid 80's - whatever year it was we had a very hot and dry summer - we thought taking a week and heading north would be cooler and refreshing. WRONG!!

It was hot as hades along the north shore and we ended up working our way up to Thunder Bay. The kids swam in the lake and we often found ourselves wading or sitting on rocks (depending on the shoreline where we were) to soak our feet trying to cool off.

And to top it all off - the flies were HORRIBLE!!!!

We could never eat outdoors and before we could go to sleep each night, we spent about 30 minutes swatting flies that had found their way into the camper.

1st one is a tiny fire hydrant I found in a park in Cottage Grove. Second I saw this morning, they should really give you a bigger sign to let you know the bus driver is a student driver... 3rd is a new project I'm working on when I get time. I'm trying to fold 1000 paper cranes. I figured regular sized ones would take up too much space, so I'm folding 1 inch pieces of paper, and then keep them in a bottle. So far I'm up to 50, I have a long ways to go.

Not too long. For a while I had a streak where I would fold 10 a day. Usually it takes me about 5 minutes to fold one. Mainly because of the smaller size. Those by no means are the smallest I've ever folded, it was just the most manageable size I could do in a decent time.

I'm aiming to be done before the end of the year though.

kc...can u make the earrings??

KC0GRN

I don't think it's any different than making a crane, besides sticking it on an earring thingy? So yeah, probably.

Yeah, just a snapple bottle actually, I needed something to keep them in that I didn't need to spend money on.

BTW I'm not using special or fancy paper either, mainly scraps of whatever I have around. In fact, I've kind of made it a point to try and use scraps of paper from different areas of my daily life. Part of a credit card bill, part of a paycheck stub, part of a note someone gives me, part of some paper I find in a cache, etc. Now when I go places I look for different paper to try and use. I expect I'll grab a map from the state fair and use that, as well as other brocures and things from there.

Heck, at the fair I could probably get enough different kinds of paper to fold 1000 cranes just from....

Wait! I got a great idea for an entry for the creative arts building in next year's fair.

I was driving home from the lake by myself last night. I was really really tired but almost home. It was about 1:30 when I drove through Roseville on 694. Looking up I saw the fog and the twin radio towers. I decided last minute to take the exit at Victoria and try to get a pic of it. (instead of pulling over on the side of the highway). The first picture is from the Victoria St. bridge going over 694.

There were cars coming up behind me so I went to the next light and turned left.... I hoped Id be able to get another shot of the towers... before I knew it I was right under them!

IT was foggy and sprinkling out.

I'm not sure why I wanted the pictures so badly though -

so here is where it gets crazy.

I take a few pics and head back to Victoria St.

I don't know why but I looked to my left while driving and caught a glimpse of something in the cloudy sky. I thought it was just the light of the cross playing a trick on my eyes (kinda like a when a flash goes off and you see the shadow of the image still). I did a u-turn and went back and sure enough, from just the right angle in the sky this is what I saw in last nights fog with only the sound of the thunder headed my way.... (they are by far not a cluey shot- but just wow)

- in the first picture you can see the cross reflecting on top of my truck AND in the clouds...

I just got back from vacation, but this reminded me of a 1914 postcard I have found in my old photos today. Sent to my Grandpa in 1914.

Those were really cool me2. Great eye! But even better great timing.

I read once somewhere that a photographer takes great photographs not so much with great equipment, but by spending a lot of time at their subject. Nature photographers in particular will spend weeks or months at a location, finding the best view, checking it at different times of day and waiting for just the right conditions to come up.
