I'm hoping to have at least 10 teams. 20 would be great. I won't do it with less than 5 or 6. Just based on general chatter I've heard thus far it sounds like 5 or 6 teams are getting together already, but I still have more advertising to do too.
And here I thought Kitch would be the perfect internet search person for some team.
Jake asked for some more detail about how the hunt will work so here goes.
Starting at 7pm people can arrive at the Como Park Mason Lodge (where the rehash was last year) for a social hour. We'll serve some appetizers and beverages while you wait for the race to start.
At 7:55 we'll ask for one member of each team to line up and then at 8pm I'll go right down the row and hand each an envelope.
The envelope will contain 12 copies of photographs. Each photograph was taken at a landmark in either St. Paul or Minneapolis (within the city limits to the north and south and as far east and west as the two downtowns). Each picture will have something blanked out of it such as a word. It might also guide you to a specific letter in the missing word.
You probably won't be able to tell where the picture was taken just by looking at the picture. Thus on the back of each picture there will be a puzzle, and if you solve the puzzle, it will tell you which landmark to go to. These puzzles vary in nature. Some are word puzzles, some are logic puzzles, some defy such categorization. On average they are the difficulty of a crossword puzzle in that most of them, even if you're making continual progress on them, will still take a little bit to work all the way through. Again, you're free to look stuff up on the internet or call people for help if you want. Pretty much any way of getting the answer is fair other than stealing it from another team or trying to get me to tell you. But however many people are involved in the victory, only 5 will get prizes.
Once you've solved all the puzzles, and visited all the locations, you should be left with 12 letters. These letters will lead you to the final destination. Once your team gets to that location, you'll be asked to choose an item based on a certain criteria, such as picking the oldest item. Once you've made that choice, you have finished the race and you can rest until 8pm.
At 8pm we will have the Winner's Ball at a secret location which will include food at the very least. The team that arrives with the proper item (the oldest item in our example) is the winner of the hunt.
That's about everything there is to know about it.
As for TMK, he could indeed solve puzzles from afar, if the communications expert on the team can get copies of the puzzles to him. I bet he would be good at it too.
It sounds like we may have at least 4 teams coming out of this group now though people are still in negotiation. I know of 3 or 4 other teams that are likely to participate and I'm still working on recruiting more. hoping to get to at least 10 (it looks seven teams will be our break even point). I know more teams makes it harder to win, but it also makes it more exciting and more satisfying if you do win.

Any interested peeps PM me. I may not be able to get out a ton on AWs hunt but could offer support in other ways. I like the cause it is going for and may be interested in talking to david more about the "club".
Looks like I'll be going up to my sister's next weekend. However, I'll offer my services for late friday evening online.
Trouble is, there's more than one cooler crew team. I'll just keep all my conversations private/confidential if that many people are looking for help.
FWIW, I've had a few years experience puzzle solving on geocaches, and am versed in a few different methodologies including visual puzzles, photography, cryptography, math, trivia, navigation, etc.

(Young, Young, Scott)
I'm ever upper class high society,
God's gift to ballroom notoriety,
I always fill my ballroom
(The event is never small)
The social pages say I've got
The biggest balls of all
Oh I've got big balls
I've got big balls
And they're such big balls
Dirty big balls
And he's got big balls
And she's got big balls
But we've got the biggest balls of them all
And my balls are always bouncing
My ballroom always full
And everybody cums and cums again
If your name is on the guest list
No-one can take you higher
Everybody says I've got
GREAT BALLS OF FIRE
Oh I've got big balls
repeat
Some balls are held for charity
And some for fancy dress
But when they're held for pleasure
They're the balls that I like best.
My balls are always bouncing
To the left and to the right
It's my belief that my big balls
Should be held every night
Oh I've got big balls
repeat
And I'm just itching to tell you about them
Oh we had such wonderful fun
Seafood cocktail, crabs, crayfish...
Ball sucker

I don't know how much good I'll be without an internet connection though, but who knows.
exclamation points: 17
witty insults: try again
we both want to win already, you don't need to try and create some fake rivalry to make it fun buddy.
