The next clue will either list two landmarks you can see from the hiding spot, or one landmark and a reference to what it is hidden in. My guess is it will say something about a big rock
I think clue 3 was the cluewriter's attempt to be sneaky and make you think it wasn't Newell because the towers were to the west. They must not have realized people would find other towers in the north to satisfy themselves. Nor do I think they realized that people would jump on clue 5 to mean Fairview when I think they just meant the State Fair. And all the times they used the word well. Its kind of ironic, What mainly sent people to Newell last year was a misinterpretation of the use of the words "well" and "new" in the same phrase. This year, I think people misinterpreted the clues again (including "triad newell" in my opinion), only this time, all the misinterpretations just sent them to the right park even faster!
A well trained eye (an eye that sees a lot of trains, again trying to be clever) is one reason why a good (treasure) hunter stays on the attack (bizarre phrase that I can only assume was meant to rhyme with track). This is a lesson you need to apply (trains are something you should look for when hunting) if you want to be on the right track (be on the right trail, but also a reference to train track)
Its also my vague and probably vain hope that well trained eye means you can see the medallion if you look carefully, and that you won't have to dig in the snow, but probably not.
I agree green, and that's why I talked myself out of Newell for a while when it seemed obvious enough, but now the evidence seems to be overwhelming. I don't know if they're in a rush to get it over with (maybe don't want the park destroyed by too many days of digging?) or if they just have it hidden in such a hard to get to place that they think it will take us 6 days to find it.
My 1st posting( I finally figured out how to logon and post a message) I followed the Water Cooler messages last year, and AW was always on the mark with his interpretation of clues. I'd trust him this again this time. But, can we eliminate Highland altogether with it's disc golf today and clue 1sort of refering to it? Was at NP yesterday and all the clues did seem to fit, though.
You can never put faith in a park just because it fits one clue. I had a spot in Phalen nailed perfectly through the first four clues. But then it didn't fit the others so I had to give up on it. I don;t think Highland fits the clues well enough, or if you could make it fit them it wouldn't fit like Newell does.
Also, the "anti-clues": Seven clues and no (deliberate) reference to the park name, which tends to eliminate the bigger parks. No mention of water, which elimnates the ones associated with a significant body of water Like Como or Phalen or even Marydale.
AW - When at NP last night late, the place was just shredded. Could the hiding place be so difficult that they would dead-eye the park this early when it is such a small area?
anyone know the history of phalen... i remember hearing that phalen is a "well" any truth to that? i can't get ahold of my in laws... they would know for sure... any help would be appreciated
I have heard that Phalen was not a good person. A friend's mother says she remembers something about Phalen being notorious. That has kept me stuck on Phalen.
TooManySecrets, that one thing I'm not sure about and actually kind of dread. In clue 7 last year they gave away Wilson, but that was just one street and it was a much harder clue. Maybe they didn't realize how obvious it was getting? It did take several hundred people 3 days of digging at Conway to find it, plus the digging that had taken place prior to those last 3 days.
because if phalen... is a well of any type that could be the water reference we are looking for... its just noodling but if memory serves me right theres something about phalen having to do with a well...
And remember, if its not at Newell, the cluewriter would have to be some kind of genius to make it seem like it was and yet not be. After reading the explantions of the clues in the past, does anyone think that?
people seem turned off by pahlen because the lock the gate at night... but there is alot of phalen. you could certainly hide the medallion in the park and not be aywhere near the gated part
A problem I have with Phalen is its inaccessability at night. I was told by somebody that when they locked up the gates the other night the police were making people leave. I dont think they want people sneaking in after dark.
I think they don't want it found until the end and purposely send us all over until the end. I spent three days last year at Conway and couldn't beleive it wasn't found.
The next clue will either list two landmarks you can see from the hiding spot, or one landmark and a reference to what it is hidden in. My guess is it will say something about a big rock
It is correct that clue 3 does not say to look for the TOWERS in KB's direction. I think I have stubbed my toe on that rock a couple of times.
I think wall(s). Maybee a tree, too. Maybee "split". And even "fair game."
I think I need to go talk to that Frog in his pond and keep him company! :)

JOE!
So what was Clue 6 supposed to mean? You brought up some good points.
That's what bugs me. SSSSSOOOOO many "news" and "wells." And a plethora o'"fairs." Like over kill - to get folks there.
But, I'm rotten at this, and Newell's as good'a place as any!
So where does everybody think it is?!?!
Clue 7 gives us 4 things that the medallion is hiddden 'somewhere in between'. Still a large area.
I think clue 6 would read this way:
A well trained eye (an eye that sees a lot of trains, again trying to be clever) is one reason why a good (treasure) hunter stays on the attack (bizarre phrase that I can only assume was meant to rhyme with track). This is a lesson you need to apply (trains are something you should look for when hunting) if you want to be on the right track (be on the right trail, but also a reference to train track)
Xactly, Allison!
Has anybody seen my MOJO?
I just can't go from last year's clues, and Chair-O-Key's (DAMN! They were HARD!!!) to this year's that serve you the park on a silver platter.
Its also my vague and probably vain hope that well trained eye means you can see the medallion if you look carefully, and that you won't have to dig in the snow, but probably not.
Allison, that's EVERY DIGGER'S hope! *NOT* just yours! :) I'm hoping I yust trip over it! :)

Oh, gods... Allison, wouldn't an automobile be a "machine"????

What about "rapscallion"? Any theories? I am still hooked on Phalen. It hasn't been there since '83.
An automobile is a machine, but not one whose primary purpose is to turn, though it can turn. Why?
anyone know the history of phalen... i remember hearing that phalen is a "well" any truth to that? i can't get ahold of my in laws... they would know for sure... any help would be appreciated
But there's water at Newell!
The latest clue fits Newell so well. It's got to be there!
Drinking fountain near the building and frozen water crystals all over the ground.
"A turning machine."
Simple.

Usually the water clue refers to a large amount of water like a lake or river.
There are hand-pumped wells along the track of Phalen.
Has it ever been on a beach?
How do we know that one of us writing now isn't the writing the clues? I could be the clue writer???
Phalen is a creek, not sure if it starts out as a well.
because if phalen... is a well of any type that could be the water reference we are looking for... its just noodling but if memory serves me right theres something about phalen having to do with a well...
Tom, are those wells over by the picnic pavillion and teh beach house?
No way to know at all Tom. I already accused Newell Pfool once of being the cluewriter because it seems like its always at Newell in the beginning.
Is it possible they haven't had a clue about water yet because then that would pinpoint the park(Phalen)? Maybe a water clue is still to come?
Ittiz you, Allison... Come on! 'Fess up! :)
And remember, if its not at Newell, the cluewriter would have to be some kind of genius to make it seem like it was and yet not be. After reading the explantions of the clues in the past, does anyone think that?
Alf, in my opinion, they've already mentioned the "water" clue. #2.
If it were me the clues would be a lot better written.
Think s/he's a genuis? Yes.
Think Newell? No.
people seem turned off by pahlen because the lock the gate at night... but there is alot of phalen. you could certainly hide the medallion in the park and not be aywhere near the gated part
green: how does water fit into clue 2?
If you're talking about the races on the lake, that's a reference to races, not to water.
sunday nights clue will lead you away from np
