Me2 - theres an outside chance I can really clean up the reflective glare from the PDG group photo in Photoshop - the photos in your Photobucket are not very high resolution. It's a lot harder to clean up smaller size photos. Can you e-mail me a higher-res copy?

I can use photos --

Hunt2008053.jpg or Hunt2008052.jpg

Or probably a combination of both to get a clean shot

Did anyone else manage to get a good group shot - maybe without a flash?

I got out to the Hudson Hot Air Affair Balloon Festival this morning. I'd post pictures here, but that link should suffice. It was cool to see so many balloons in one gathering. Actually I think it'd be fun to take a ride in one sometime, never really tought much about it before.

CM - If the darker pictures you have can show my face (in front of the reflective vests) and the couple wearing them clearly, I can cut that portion out and photoshop them in to one of our 'better' group shots. Anything is possible - I can switch the heads on me2 and Jake if you want.

That is a GREAT group shot - I'm at work now - I'll try to color-correct it when I get home and post it back so you can use it for the web site. Sorry I missed it - I was still taking down the Christmas tree and nursing a head cold at home.

My Christmas village is still up....I figure I can hide a tiny medallion somewhere and have my own treasure hunt.

It has 15 buildings and even a park!

Terry, what a great idea! Start your own little family medallion hunt - you will get Brenda hunting again and she won't even know what hit her. LOL!

I keep one up year round in my bedroom. It serves as a night light. I still have one up in my dining room. It stays as long as there's still snow on the ground.

So I am not the only one who leaves it up way longer than I should! Last year it was up until the summer. I just like having it up, but it does take up a lot of space in the study. Do you have any pics of your village? Is it Dicken's Village? Mine is a Dicken's one and that is really why I want to find the medallion! I want to get more building and they aren't cheap.

Have you looked for them on Ebay? They had a bunch of them at Christmas time and they were selling for around $20 each.

I have Original Snow Village and Disney Village. I bought Disney as an investment because it was retired soon after it was released. That turned out to be a bust. They're a dime a dozen now. But I have three pieces that are pretty special. I have the Steepled Church from 1976, the first year they made them, and a house from 1977 and 1978. I bought the first two from a kiosk at Signal Hills that only carried a few of each before they became so popular. Paid $15 for them. The 1978 house I found at Goodwill a couple of years ago for $6. I don't think they knew what they had because they changed the molds later and now they look more refined.

1995 was a rough year. My dad died suddenly in July, the night of his funeral, my son Drummer had a brain hemorrhage. My mother, unable to care for herself, was moved to a friend's licensed care home. In October, Drummer had brain surgery. In December, my mother contracted pneumonia and we held a Christmas week vigil in her hospital hospice room. On the 23rd of December, I came home late one evening to find that Drummer and Mags had put the Christmas tree up, and the lights were sure a welcome sight. My mother died the day after Christmas. I left that tree up until Easter. Took a lot of shit about it too. But we do what feels right, ya know?

Good idea - but this is Tater. I don't have a village. My mom had one and gave it all to my nephew who has more village than will fit in their living room.

My parents have got you all beat- Mom's tradition, I swear - going on 30 years...

Buy a big wreath from the Boy Scouts and mount it on the front door of the house about a week after Thanksgiving. Their front door faces North, and since the garage access and downstairs door faces East, the front door hardly gets any traffic. Wreath stays up, safely between the storm door and the main door.

Coat closet on the landing inside gets a faint pine smell from the entry. Wreath stays up. Storm door glass gets replaced with a screen in the Spring - wreath stays up.

The wreath comes down for only two reasons: Dad needs a fire starter for the brush pile to burn in late spring, or it is the FOURTH OF JULY! They use it as their own "fireworks" on the bonfire every Fourth of July!

My sister-in-law has the most I have seen in one persons home! of the villages she has about 300 pieces!! it is insane!! every year she has some kind of rotation worked out so if you went this year and went next year you would NEVER SEE the same one!! she leaves some up all year!! I think it is kool because some of the ones she leaves up are ones I got her!! I like to buy for her because it is so easy!! I just say whats the newest piece you have and buy it!!

When I worked at River center I set up for a Dept. 56 show That was kool azz hell they had tons of Halloween ones that I thought where kool I love that time of year!!

A head's up for folks that are still adding to their collections. Gerten's in IGH sells their display pieces at half price after Christmas. You don't get the box, but if you're not planning on selling them, it's a good deal. Too late for this year, but something to keep in mind.

normally we would have. the red and green boxes we keep them in spent the season out in the basement, but nothing came out. mostly because the end of the semester was a lot of work for me at school, and when i wasn't doing school work, i was job hunting.

heck, i didn't even get all my christmas lights up outside.

We've got some friends that are coming over this weekend for a Card Game night - we met last month a week after New Years to do the same thing. I joked that if they came over to our place next month we'd still have Christmas Decorations up.

Not too far from the truth - I'm leaving the lights up outside and I'll light them up the night they come over so they think I was serious...

actually i've still got 300 icicle lights up around the side of the house. they froze into the gutter and will be there until the ice melts.

My secret:

1) Buy 100 or so of those really crappy plastic shingle light clips.

2) Buy a box of Large (#2 head?) Phillips screws about 1" Long

--- The screws can fit through the center gap in the shingle clips and the head holds them in place - I just screw them up into the vinyl soffit behind the gutters about 6" away from the roof edge - they end up being BEHIND the ice dams and icicles instead of IN them

--- If you screw them out you have a small 1/8" hole - but my soffit is white (like the clips) so I just never take the clips down

--- The screws are flimsy and can't hold a lot of weight - but they are perfect for a couple strings of lights. If the hooks on the clips break, just shell out another $3 for another 100 pack
