Sorry to hear that

Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes died this weekend, too.

I wonder if death notices will become more and more prevalent as the baby boom generation pushes 70. My sympathies for the Boxmeyers...

as we were getting ready to take the girls off to the pool for an afternoon of fun in the sun, we got a call from sue's mom that her stepdad was having a heart attack. her brother was going to drive them up to southdale, but it became evident that an ambulance was necessary. this being the 5th heart attack he's had, he immediately recognized the signs of it, very similar to the first one he had.

we got there about 20 minutes before the ambulance did. he was up and lucid the whole time, and when they did the tests, the enzyme level they check for a heart attack was only very slightly elevated, compared to severely elevated for a heart attack. for the moment, they've got him diagnosed with congestive heart failure, which is completely treatable, and i understand the third set of blood work that they'll be doing at 2am will be the one that determines for sure whether a heart attack was involved or whether it was just the congestive heart failure.

fortunately, he recognized the symptoms in time, quite early in fact, which prevented something more severe from happening, even if it is just the congestive heart failure.

so thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

I was just gonna post about this.

I'm just sad about Don. The last time I spoke with he and his wife, Kathy, a few months back at a family birthday party, we talked about getting together but life goes so quickly and you go on with your daily things and always think you have time to get together. :frown:

STOP and call someone today, someone you have been meaning to get together with and just do it!

yeah no kidding. looks like they've got an angioplasty scheduled for tomorrow, but those are on an "on-call" basis, meaning they don't schedule it, and er people having full on heart attacks get priority. we'll keep y'all posted.

Thanks to Steph for posting about me here and thanks to all of you for the good wishes and positive thoughts. As you know, I don't keep up with the board in the off-season so I've only recently found out what's happening with Brad. My thoughts are with him and his family. How scary. I'm glad to hear he is getting better and the prognosis is good.

I've been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which is the most curable cancer a woman can get. Just before the 4th of July, a large lump developed on my upper shoulder between my bra strap and the base of my neck. Within 48 hours, I knew I had some sort of cancer. Since then I have undergone more medical tests than in the rest of my life combined, as well as three minor surgeries. I started chemotherapy two weeks ago. My next session is tomorrow. I'll continue every other week for either 8 total times (4 months total) or 12 total times (6 months total) depending on what some upcoming tests show. If I have less chemo, it will be followed by radiation.

The first chemo wasn't that bad. I did not get sick. However, the fatigue is unbelievable. I don't know when or where it is going to hit. It is not tiredness. It is just an unbelievable bone-weariness. As the chemo goes on, it is likely to get harder. Thus, I have been working really hard to finish my dissertation and be ready to graduate by the end of the year. Right now, I am on track. Hopefully, I can maintain the momentum.

I am feeling very positive about the future and am looking at this treatment as just another thing in life. I'm quite confident that by the end of January, I'll be cured - hopefully in just enough time for the hunt.

I'm leaving the board again for a while, but I just wanted you all to know how much I appreciate your positive energies.

Carolyn already told Cluey and Jana up at the hospital yesterday that if you guys need anything down there, dont hesitate to give a holler.... we're only like 10 mins away....

LLB, you're in our prayers also.... chemo is no fun... I remember my mom going through that, back when she had breast cancer...

we're all here for you, as well.... dont hesitate to call on any one of us, if you need anything....

I'll add more to this thread now.... dont want to, but im here...

Steves (shaggy), brother Scott just called me, and let me know that their uncle Rob, went into the hospital today, and they found out that he has some form of lung cancer....

their family has always been like family to me, since we were kids....

Rob is actually almost more like a cousin to Steve and Scott, than their uncle....

He's an amazing guy...

he also has down syndrome, but it doesnt really stop him from being completely awesome, in anything that he does....

when the special olympics were held in Minneapolis, a number of years ago, he was there....

he's very into pro wrestling, just like the rest of us, and has always had a good sense of humor, and is a very smart, and strong, and friendly individual

that he has to go through this, sucks ass, completely........

Im so sick of hospitals, and seeing my friends and family being confined to them....

Today is the 20 year anniversary of losing my dad

I miss him

We each have an important role to fulfill during this journey we call life. The things we absorb along the way can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, confused, and not sure which direction to follow. Recall, Reclaim, and begin working toward fulfilling the purpose for which you were sent and you will find new meaning, joy, fulfillment, and a sense of deep inner peace in each and every area of your life.

Sorry to hear about Steves uncle. I hate cancer!

let me just say it one more time: damn cancer. on the bright side, the genetic based work they're doing for chemo is mind-boggling. when the day comes that we beat cancer, i'm becoming more and more convinced that its going to be because we beat it at its own genetic game, rather than anything else.

and the reason i am believing that is some of the papers i've read regarding the genetic anomaly that some collie lineages possess which creates toxicity problems with one of the major heartworm preventive drugs (ivermectin aka heartgard).

ares, I would like to read that paper, or at least the abstract - do you have the citation for it? thanks!
Tue, 08/12/2008 - 6:59 PM Permalink
ares

pm me your email address. i've got a few of them. if you've got access to the journals themselves, look up katrina mealey in the veterinary journals. she's done an awful lot of the work on it, and has the patent on the genetic test for it. in fact, the citations are on her web page at washington state.

Going to put my two cents here also.....I ALSO HATE CANCER..

It is affecting a member of my close family right now, and I am not liking it.

When it's all over I will let you in on what happened..but I just can't talk about it right now... :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

CLUE, I HOPE YOU ARE GETTING STRONGER, AND STRONGER....STILL KEEPING GOOD THOUGHTS FOR YOU AND KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED...

And thanks, you're great....

oh and Clue, take it easy at home..sometimes you feel stronger than what you are, so let them pamper you..I would go and pamper you, but somehow I don't think the hubby would appreciate it....

He was admitted to the VA hospital today and has surgery to remove the cancer from his colon at 11:30 tomorrow. Should be about two and a half hour surgery and then 2-3 hrs recovery. He has to stay in 6 days I think.

Thanks for asking.
