Gout, a disease long known through history as "The Disease of Kings" or the "Rich Man's disease", is a severely painful condition caused from too much uric acid (monosodium urate) in the body.

When your body has too much uric acid (a condition known as "hyperuricemia"), some of these needle-shaped crystals tend to deposit outside the bloodstream, often around a joint. When such deposits develop and cause pain, the condition is termed "gout".

I hope IAN doesn't get it

Thanks Mom and Dad for raising me on a 70% chicken diet. I'd take a great BBQ chicken over steak any day of the week. (In some circles, that's almost as bad as being a Green Bay Packer fan, but so be it.)

you're in fairly good company here, md. however if there's no bbq sauce around (or anything else to keep the chicken from getting too dry), give me the steak.

Just have to share this healthy chicken recipe! It has become a favorite. TNWTDWTMC makes it for company all the time and she says even the pickiest kids like it, and the adults all want the recipe.

I made up a spice shaker with enough of the spices (below) to use for quite a few recipes. Cuts the prep time to almost nothing.

Garlic Lime Chicken (Serves 6)

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1/4 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon thyme

6 boneless skinless chicken breasts

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons olive oil (I skip the butter and use 4 tablespoons olive oil)

1/2 cup chicken broth

4 tablespoons lime juice

Mix together first 7 ingredients. Sprinkle mixture on both sides of chicken breasts.

In a skillet, heat butter and olive oil together over medium high heat. Saute chicken until golden brown on each side, until no longer pink in the center. Remove chicken and add lime juice and chicken broth to the pan, whisking up the browned bits off the bottom of the pan. Keep cooking until sauce has reduced slightly. Add chicken back to the pan to thoroughly coat and serve.

Serving suggestions include on pasta, or with mashed potatoes or rice on the side. The leftovers make the BEST chicken noodle soup I've ever had.

Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning - fantastic on ANYTHING.

My brother-in-law's "secret" BBQ Chicken Recipie is nothing more than this stuff and a little KC Masterpiece BBQ added at the end. Good stuff!

Im gonna hafta look for that seasoning stuff...

Carolyn can tell you, cause she's found out recently, that I can do some mean burgers on the grill..

I learned well, from my dad.... and use his seasoning mix just right.... sometimes adding my own flair in, here or there....

Lowrys season salt, goes a long way for me though.... I seem to use a little of it, on lots of stuff that I make....

TMI! :pbpt:

Question: Is Cluey's pain a side effect of switching pain meds or trying to reduce the amount of some of them? Sometimes the 'detox' off those things is more painful than the original pain. I dunno if he's been on any of them long enough to get 'hooked' - and if he's still got real chest pain, the narcotic effect should be minimal --- just thinkin' out loud here...

I'm pretty sure the pain that is so terrible now is his foot and occationaly his back.

Which begs the question as to why the pain meds he's on isn't at least masking the foot/back pain.

well, I'm frustrated.

basically a nurse comes out 1 or more times a week to draw blood or check up on him. A doctor (Kravitz) called last week and said the blood work one day had shown that cm was showing alergic reactions to the antibiotic they were giving him so the doc was taking him off of that one and put him on a different one. The test for gout came back negative and the test for the R. Arthritist came back still looking in the early stages so that shouldn't be it. They drove out to see Kravitz and just got out. Kravitz said this was the alergic reaction to the 1st antibiotic! oiwe ve!!!! smack hand on head!!!! smack head on desk!!!! smack head against wall!!!! now my hand hurts

The doctor couldn't have asked him if he was feeling any alergic reaction OR if cm noticed anything different that day??? he has been in serious pain ever since. Thank goodness though that his mom got him in to this appt.

Kravitz is an excellent doctor and ties for my favorite so far with another doc that has seen cm, I'm just suprised he didn't ask.

The doc prescribed him Protozone? for this "serum sickness" and said he should notice a change in swelling with in 6 hours and a difference in the pain within 12. THANK GOD! FINALLY!

that is so stupid, but I'm glad they figured it out. poor guy.

cluey is on his way to the doctor again. The medicine he was given 2 days ago is not working and his ankle is worse. I'm VERY worried you guys.

If this doc doesn't come up with something NOW than he needs to be admitted somewhere fast.

doctor only upped the dose of the prednisone stuff and changed Vicodine to Vicodine ES and said they would see him on Tuesday.

I'm incredibly worried. I asked if the doc had a backup plan and he said it didn't look like it.

I'm not real sure the difference between the reg and the es.

besides 5.0/500 and 7.5/750? does that look right?

The same salt retention that accounts for the excessive thirst and urination may also be a problem for heart failure patients or other patients who require sodium restriction.

What other drugs will affect prednisone?

a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin);

antibiotics such as ketoconazole (Nizoral), rifampin (Rifadin, Rifater, Rifamate, Rimactane), or troleandomycin (Tao); or

The lady pulled it out way too slow and the guy wasn't wearing any protective gloves or mask. I'm glad I had my nurse pull mine out. She was way cautious throughout the whole month. I'm going to miss her.
