I didn't know where to post this, so I figured here was a good place. I just got back from a dear friend's wake. He was Steve (Shaggy)'s Uncle. He died at the age of 38. He also had down's syndrome. He was an awesome guy, and the first time I met him, he looked at me, and made this squeezing motion with his hands, and said, "honk, honk" and a few seconds later, he threw up the DX symbol. He was more loving than the average person, and didn't notice the imperfections... he didn't care if you were white, black, purple, yellow, or green.. you were a person to him.. you were perfect in Rob's eyes.

You couldn't meet a better person. He didn't deserve to get lung cancer... he didn't deserve down's syndrome either, but he made the best of it.

It all seems so surreal... the whole time I was sitting in the chapel, I had Santa Dave flashbacks. I just couldn't help but think how all the good people die far too soon. It seems like the world is filling up with bad, better yet, horrible people.

Don't get me wrong, I know there are good people left, but I just feel robbed. I feel like the good people are getting less and less. It makes me value the good people I have in my life.

Im probably going to live a long time, cause we all know I'm bad.. bur just incase...

I just wanna thank all of you for accepting me into this wonderful group. I also want to thank you all for becoming the great friends to me that you are. I love and appreciate all of you. I am always thankful for all of you. You are all special, in your own unique ways and I thank you all for that.

Now it's time to feed the pups...

Thanks you guys for taking the time to read my anti-life post.

    BTW...

    Cancer SUCKS!!!

    I find your post pro-life.

He sounds like a beautiful person. I'm really really saddened to hear he died. You are wonderful to acknowlege a fine soul. great big hug.

I completely agree with you, so many great people leave us too early.

I used to think I wouldn't live to 30 (not that I'm a great person -lol-just that I had a moviestar outlook). I recall the feeling of turning 30 but even moreso turning 36 and being older than the final faces of Marilyn and Diana. Not that these people were great, I didn't know them personally.

Why do some get more time than others on Earth. Some would say that they are the lucky ones for getting to go to a "better" place - I would say I was the lucky one for knowing the person who left us.

no one deserves permanant lifetime ailments but it's great to see they made the best with what they had...kinda makes us think more that we should be greatful for what we do have.

we just got back from the funeral and stuff....

yesterday was a visitation, today was more visitation/burial at Fort Snelling....

Steves uncle Jim seemed to sum up, what everybody was thinking, when he said today that growing up with Rob, they (his bros and sisters), never looked at him, as having a disability.... but just as their brother.... another person....

who is exactly what I saw, since I first met him, way back when I was a kid....

after you get to know him, you realized that he had all these wonderful qualities, that other folks might not have realized, because they were too focused on his disability (or lack there of, basically, because he didnt f'n have one)

he didnt deserve to die.... nobody does really....

but like Carolyn said.... I also feel robbed by this...

I saw a shirt not too long ago, that some guy was wearing at a bar that said "fuck cancer"....

I want to get one too...

It's slowly creeping up onto my enemies list, right behind REO Speedwagon...

and they arent even the ones that killed my dad...

Hey, I have a FUnK CANCER shirt...you can get them on-line at CafePress. I also like the one that says Hey Cancer, Funk You.

I'm sad for both of you, for Steve, and for all of the people that were lucky enough to know his uncle Rob. Sounds like he was a cool dude. :frown:

he lived with/depended on his dad/Steves grandpa, who was a veteran, and is buried out there...

I guess the rules are, that you either have to have been a veteran, or a dependant of one....

I wondered the same thing when my friend shot himself at 16. He is buried at Ft Snelling as well. I could never figure out how that worked until just now. Thanks for clearing that up

And as long as you have a spot on reserve... My dad had to "reserve" his spot for and one for my mom about 10 years ago... Most veterans are suppose to have a spot... they can give their spot to a spouse/dependant should they pass before them - but would need to make arrangements again for themselves after that....

At least that was they way it was explained to my dad, so he went ahead and took care of both he and my mom... kinda of creepy to think about..

My brother passed before my parents and was buried at Snelling. Then my dad passed and was planted on top of him, then my mother on top of him. They go 3 deep. If you have minor/dependant children they can be buried there, but not adults unluss they have special cirumstances. Steves uncle may have qualified because he had downs syndrom?

My other brother also died before my parents but did not qualify for snelling and had to be in a seperate graveyard because he was over 18.
