I see a small think clear disc named "medallion" in my future.

I found one of those about a week ago - didn't fly worth a damn and I lost it in the snow after the first toss...

where did you lose it at? we may be able to distract other people from finding the real one with it.

Works for me.

It's an article in today's PP about disc golfers playing in the Fairway Freezer Ice Bowl in Roseville. They raise money for a food shelf.

Oh yeah. I can't get the PP here at work. No idea why. Maybe it's a restricted site since I'm closer to that other city right now. I'll check the Strib and see if it works for me.

I used to participate in that Winter carnival event every year until they messed with the money and organization of it. Maybe it's better now. Anyone want to hook up for it? It is a fun time. It keeps you from really jonesin before the nice weather finally decides to show up. I think they moved it to Como the last couple of years. It used to be at Highland all the time. Plus you get a discount on the entry fee if you have a button. not sure if that's still the case or not though. I'll check out the link when I get home. Thanks for posting it OT.

I say I want to do it every year and every year I either drank too much, still hunting and wont pull away or stayed up way to late the night before or all of the above. and considering the date of the event this year I expect at least the later of the 3.

Nice! I have been dying to start my winter playing and practicing (which will amount to a ton of putting :pbpt:), but it has been so cold! It would definitely be nice to make it to this, especially if you guys are going to be around.

This powder snow we got today is really a hindrance for Winter Discin' -- the hard crusty snow lets the disk skip a couple dozen extra yards - its great!
Mon, 01/12/2009 - 8:57 PM Permalink
regman

Yeah, and it is a lot easier to find your disc when the snow is hard. Oh well, I guess we just have to park every hole!

I want to know just how serious y'all are about Winter disc Golfing...

This Disc Golf 'festival' at Como Park is Sat & Sun Jan 24th and 25th. It is a fund raiser for 2nd Harvest, so admission cost is $26 a person. Now you get some freebies with that as long as you register ahead of time. They got a 'prize pack' that includes some souvenirs, as well as coupons for $1 pints at Gabes (and free wings I hear) afterward.

The course is set up throughout the park with 24 holes using temporary cages, so the course is never the same as what you've played before. They say the only obstacles you have to worry about are those pesky Medallion hunters.

The whole setup is pretty informal - your don't register a tee time, just the players and tee off (mostly) between 10 and 11:30 am. You can show up that day and play if you want. They want to try to keep people in groups of four. I'm willing to participate but I'd like to see a foursome get in the game.

That is sooo true! A couple years ago I was diggin' at Como on a beautiful afternoon and became one of those pesky med hunters smack in the middle of the course - hole 12 .....lol

looks like a fun outing tho - good luck

Now I am all anxious to get out! I hope it warms up a little!

Here are a few disc golf pics. These are of my collection. I sort of wish having all these discs around made me a decent player  I got my new bag halfway through last summer. And yeah, I have a lot of Aviars!

A few more. My Buzzzes (one of my favorite discs!), me at Kaposia, and me tossing a few practice throws late last summer after my arm healed. And if the last pic looks weird, I am a lefty

I play a lot in the summer (assuming I don't get hurt :frown:) and am always looking for people to play with, so I could hook you up if you wanted to play some next year. I get a lot of coupons and credit and stuff from various disc golf stores, so it would be no problem.

Also, if you wanted to look at Kaposia, I know a couple really good spots to check out

Myself, BFG and Reg are on board for a Sunday (25th) disc excursion - the more the merrier! Can we get a fourth (or fifth)? If we register this weekend I think we earn get drink special coupons at Gabe's that weekend.

I just can't.

I'd go out to Highland or Kaposia with yah Reg.

really nice pic of you sitting between the discs.

if they all don't work for you than think about selling some to the cooler. I think it would be good for all of us to have our own CoolerCrew Disc Sale on some Saturday. Everyone bring what doesn't work for yah and see if another cc needs it. Should do that this Spring. I know I have a few I don't need.

Nice collection Reg!! More than me. Damn I need to do this. Last night I was cleaning up my basement and found a missing mini behind some stuff. I tossed it across the room towards my mini-pole-hole basket and made it! That's when I said that I have to do this thing. But I'm never sure where the clue will lead me the night before and how late I'll be out. I went discin' a few times still buzzed from digging all night and it sucked. How much is it at the door?

It's a fundraiser for 2nd harvest so its going to be $26 a round whether you sign up the day of, or in advance. The kicker is that they have a limited number of 'prize packs' with free t-shirts, drink coupons and such; so the early birds get the beer.

They aren't taking tee time reservations - so anytime you want to show up during the event is a good time to start. I believe the hours are 9 am to 1 pm, and most line up to play between 10 am and 11:30 at the first tee. 24 holes for $26 isn't a bad investment, and it can't be colder than it is right now, riiiiiiight? Sunday appears to work better for three of us.

Like you said, who knows where the hunt will go? Maybe we'll have to take the garden implements with us around the park? I'm just going to commit to doing it ahead of time so I HAVE to distract myself from the hunt at least temporarily.

Registration for the Winter Carnival tourney is only $25 if you have a button.

Also, I think the disc sale/trade is an excellent idea.

Well, I went to Gotta Go Gotta Throw today to get some stuff and I ended up registering for the tourney (for the Sunday round, more specifically). I got to talking with one of the ladies who works there and she said that they were doing really well with the registrations--so much so that they decided to guarantee another 50 prize packs. So yeah, if you want to be sure that you are going to get a prize pack, I would register soon, and you can be sure that you will have at least one coolerhead to play with if you do.

Are we gonna discuss out start times at the PDG? Or are you not coming?
Fri, 01/16/2009 - 3:00 PM Permalink
regman

I am not sure about the PDG yet. There is a good chance I will be doing something beforehand until 11ish and I am going to Duluth for an ultimate tournament the next day, so I can't assure you that I'll be there.

Regarding start times, I will probably at least check-in around when the first groups go off (9 I think?) just to make sure nothing weird is going on. As long as I don't have an ultimate game to work around (there is a list of times I am supposed to keep open and there are no times for that Sunday on it, so I think I am in the clear), I don't really care when everyone else shows up or when we play. I am very flexible. What I would suggest (assuming that I don't make the PDG) is that everyone else interested in playing make arrangements for meeting up and inform me of them sometime thereafter.

EDIT: One thing I would suggest is not starting really late. I have never played in this thing before and I don't know if they ever run out of time or anything.
