Clue Master

There was talk about 2 park pick pools instead of one big pool. Thoughts? You'd win less but you'd have a better chance at getting something decent if you have one of the higher numbers.

How about a different type of park pool:

Every entry Picks:

Park it is hidden in

Object it was hidden in

What clue it is found after

Tiebreaker: Time of day when found

We may need a panel of judges to decide who's 'closest' - that can probably be hashed out in 5 minutes at the Re-hash Bash.

A genuine question I can't seem to get a straight answer on. Harriet Island...in play or not in play- by the rules...

I made a post in another thread about a pool run like this:

You pay $1 per pick, up to $10. Each $1 gets you 1 "share" of a park. You could pick 10 different parks if you want, or put it all in one park, or divide it some other way. You're free to pick parks that others have picked already as long as there are shares still available. I'd probably limit each park to 20 shares.

If the right park sold 20 shares and you had 5 of them for example, you'd get 1/4th of the pot. If the right park sold only one share and it was yours, you would get the whole pot. It puts a little more strategy into the picks and is less dependent on when you pick. I can write a program to keep track of it all so that it wouldn't get too confusing.

I like the idea of 2 pots of $125 at 25 picks.

so that it wouldn't get too confusing

Too late

Good question. Any one know about Harriet "officially"??

Might as well do 2 boards with 25 picks each.

Then just put all 50 picks in the one hat and have 1A and 1B, 2A/2B, etc...

I like it Tim. Anyone else for or against 2 boards?

What happens if they do dump it in a small park that nobody picks? Are we gonna have a 'Rest of the Small Ones' category? Maybe divide up the 'lil' parks into 4-5 groups just so every place is covered.

tim_the_hunter

Just like every year in the past the person that gets the last pick gets "everything else".

So the people with 25A and 25B would win.

Yup

I think it would be kinda fun having a park partner who has the same park as you do on the other board.

Any objections to two boards before I retype this stuff?

I'll redo everything tomorrow at this time if there are no objections

Nope I like the Idea of 2 of them it makes it so if someone gets your park you may be able to get it on the 2nd try board! more or less!

I like that idea cause I would pick something stupid. This way, I can see what parks the smart people pick and be a copycat.

2 boards sonds good to me. You could call the numbers at the same time too. Just call number 6 and 6a and 6b can pick at same time.

Nice idea mikey! That way I might be able to actually have some mingle time before the group picture.

Well it's been over 24 hours since I put this out for debate. Looks like two boards for the first time this year. I'll start working on them now.

Good Luck Everyone

Have a couple of parks in mind ahead of time so we don't have certain people taking 5 - 10 even 15 minutes trying to figure out what park they want.

Wait - that was only one person last year (I guess I can let it slide again)

I think battle creek should be broken into 2 sections. Thats a lot of park for one pick. At least maplewood vs st paul?
Thu, 01/14/2010 - 10:54 AM Permalink
ares

what a wast of a park, splitting it into maplewood and st. paul. they're never gonna hide it in the maplewood side of ...

what's that you say? the green donut was north of larpenteur?

nevermind.
Thu, 01/14/2010 - 12:33 PM Permalink
Terry

Yeah - but Phalen is run by the St. Paul side. All of Phalen is fair game.

I actually think the same thing would hold true for Battle Creek because it's a regional park and the city boundaries shouldn't affect that either.

ares

it helps that battle creek is run by the county. i was just paraphrasing aw's point that "they'd never put it in phalen because its too close to maplewood." turns out they did put it in phalen and in the portion in maplewood to boot.

I'm just saying we should break it up for the park pool. Maplewood side has the waterworks, dog park and the upper part. Its still huge just in that part. McKnight should be the dividing line.

But I'm cool with whatever.
