Buttons

Thanks for that information, Mad_Dach5und. We passed a couple of Cub's last night because I didn't think they'd be selling them this year because they weren't a sponsor. I still want a bouncing boy and a Klondike Kate button so I'll look there.

I found this in an article when the button designs were revealed. This is the first I'd heard of them being available at Cub.

"Buttons can be bought at Cub Foods, Super America and other retailers for $5 for one and $20 for the whole set."

BUTTON INFORMATION

Sold at Cub Foods and Super Americas throughout the Metro area (including south and west of Mpls)! Stores were given buttons based on past year sales. It was the stores responsibility to call the office if they needed more buttons this year (in past years we had volunteers who checked in with stores on a regular basis, but not enough man power this year).

Registration was due by midnight on the 16th for on-line or postmarked by the 16th for mail-in. If you registered on-line, have your confirmation number written on your registration card as proof. Yes there were a lot of things that were not reviewed or checked over with regards to registering buttons... but that is a problem that the Pioneer Press will need to deal with should it arise when the medallion is found.

There are NO other drawings associated with the button this year (at least none that we button sellers were told about - and we checked with the office).

Food for thought - Next year remember to support your Tax Collectors. Cooler Crew members have been involved with this group (Big G, Scribe, Leelabel, Becksie and of course me).. buttons are for sale begging the first weekend in December at Grand Meander Days and any Tax Collector can get you any button that you want. We all have the same jacket with the Fire&Ice logo on the back, so you know who we are and we have buttons with us most of the time. Tax Collectors work the Wild and Swarm games with a table (usually around section 110) and can be found in bars selling each night.

As an FYI I will be serving as Co-Chair of the Tax Collectors for 2011 so should anyone have any questions regarding buttons in the future - just ask me for verification. Sponsors, articles, and word of mouth are not always correct and they also don't know everything that is going on - Tax Collectors do as we ARE the direct link between the public and the Carnival office.

Thanks everyone for your support!

This is confusing too. There is conflicting information regarding the deadline for registering the button for the hunt on the PP site.

This from the page where you register online:

2010 Winter Carnival Button Registration You can now register your Winter Carnival button on-line! No purchase necessary to enter the button booklet prize drawing. For an official entry form, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to: 2010 Button Drawing Entry Form Saint Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation 429 Landmark Center 75 W 5th Street St. Paul, MN 55102 For a full disclosure of the rules, click on: Drawing Rules Deadlines: Mailed cards must be postmarked by January 17, 2010 Online Registration must be entered by 11:59 p.m. on January 17, 2010

http://www.winter-carnival.com/events/buttons/button_registration/

And this from the new link after there was confusion on whether or not online registration counted.

We will accept online registration and mail-in registration of Winter Carnival buttons for the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt. Online registration must be received and mail-in registration must be postmarked by Jan. 16, 2010. All registration is through the Winter Carnival.

I think they're going to have to honor the later date. Not everyone is as anal as we are and won't know there is an earlier date now.

OT, I noticed that as well. Ma Press indicated that 11:59 Saturday was the deadline, the Winter Carnival site added 24 hours. I don't know how they could hold anyone to the earlier date, given the conflicting info.

The good news is thanks to Kat, and really, thank you, I have four buttons registered. Anyone in my house, including the cat, can find a medallion now.

Yes they will have to honor the later date.. but like I said - they were a LOT of errors on the part of Carnival and Pioneer Press in regards to no one reviewing any of the registration material... January 17 was LAST YEARS deadline date... they just went through and changed the year and didn't look at the date.

Nothing will be postmarked Jan 17th because it is a Sunday, so the dates don't really conflict.

i've managed to get lots of things postmarked on a sunday. all you have to do is walk into the airport post office, go up to the counter on sunday night and ask them to postmark it on that date. they're happy to do it.

Yes, you get a dollar off of drinks and half priced appetizers. Pretty good stuff if you ask me!

Believe it or not... but we are already discussing next year's carnival and making plans!!

There is talk about doing just ONE button next year for the 125th.. Thoughts??

Also thought of doing a Medallion Hunting T-Shirt that lists all the years with the parks they were hidden in on the back, to be sold at the merchandise mart.

Think it would sell??

I love the "ONE" button idea. The button cases are filling up way too fast. I'd buy a t-shirt. sounds like a great idea.

They did a tshirt like that within the last 4-5 years. I got it free I'm pretty sure. I still have it and thought it was neat. I could see people getting it.

The t-shirt idea was done, by Mom Press, some years back.

It would, in my opinion, be nice to have one each year. The particular year on the front - or sleeve as I think Mom did - and the newest locale added each year on the back.

I think you could hit different genere markets with it and it would be on going and be a collectible item, if only in trying to collect them all.

Great minds, Kids. Nice to see you. Know I hug you.

The PP did that in 2002 - the 50th anniversary of the hunt. I would certainly buy one that was more current.

And I LOVE the idea of one button. I'm tired of the many button options as I only use one and think I have to purchase the whole set for collecting. I quit doing that this year.

Yes, one button is far better. I hate to say it, cheaper too.

OK, so it's settled.

Next year, the Cooler Crew will have a FIVE Button 'Good Luck' 13th Anniversary collection available at the Pre-Dig...

Actually, one year we had a series of four.

I would have purchased only 1 this year because of job loss but had to have that stupid red white and blue shovel button. grrrrrrrr

What I'm wondering is over the last couple years that the WC has had more than 1 button... do they actually sell $ figure wise the same a amount if they sold one vs 4? or do they truely make more $ on 4 packs?

what year was that?

I collect the Kings coins and ice palace history.

This year there was a Vulcan coin... 200 were minted and the mold broken ...then the Vulcans wanted them tarnishing and not solid brassy so they had a new mold made and I think 1000 more made with the rubbed in tarnishy accent.

I bought about 4 or 5 of the 200

and a couple of the tarnished/varnished ones.

a coin for the Cooler Crew would be fun.

I never did understand why I had to but Lilman a drink because of some Vulcan coin thing. I thought I was trading a drink for a coin. Nope

I read cluemasters post that he did't recieve a coin for the drink from Lilman.

but with all the drinking going on, I'm sure it was just overlooked.

sorry you didn't get a coin cm :frown:

I suppose you didn't know you could buy them near the entrance to the ballroom. I got mine at the South St Paul Winter Carnival Memorabilia Show.

Kat -- heard great things about the blues festival from a couple years ago. When was the last time they had the ice races (car)? Maybe they could replace it with some sort of snowmobile cross races or maybe x-games style snowboard competition.

Blues Festival has been each year now... there was one this year too.

Unfortunately with Car Ice Races and snowmobile we lost those organizations to hold those events due to the fact for 3 years in a row they had to be canceled due to weather... now these events are held further north... BUT I will take the suggestions to the committee for you.

I used to catch those car races every year, being that we live so close to Phalen...

One year me and a friend watched as one of the cars, skidded off the "track" and flipped over, and took out a 6 pack of porta-potties....

definately a lot cooler than camping in the vicinity of a 6 pack of them burning down.... which I've also had the mis-pleasure of.

Had a fair booth next to a whole row of them - the highlight of which was watching a totally wasted couple tumble out because they forgot to latch the door shut. Pity - the guy was the only person who had something undone at the time. A few more minutes and I probably could've made $100,000 at ABC.
