Leah, no I don't think its around any of those areas, except for Iris might be considered Midway. Otherwise you can check my Yahoo site and I have more information on there. I think I'll wait until at elast tomorrow and one more clue before I start advertising on here.
I missed when Hidden Falls was ruled out. On the West side but East River road runs by it. Banks of the beside water type and US Bank. Not much for playing is it though. Hmm possible erasing of the drawing board.
You have a good point over there leelabel. Steve (Mr. Guide) says its a rec center. Not sure if that is its real classification, but I'm sure its still public ground. But I wonder if they would let people wander around there during the day with the kids around?
A few comments before I go out - someone earlier suggested near the ice rink on Energy Park and Snelling. I used to work at Merrill Corporation. I can tell you that it is not there. Merrill uses that lot during the day and has an agreement with the city regarding its use.
Allison, if we are both right about it being in a small park - it will definately be over this weekend. Maybe I should take those hours.
Finally, I used to live in Prospect Park in Mpls. I lived in an apartment right on the St. Paul side of the river. In fact, St. Paul was about 3 feet from my door. The entire parkway along the river (I think called Mississippi River Blvd) is all city owned "park" land. I am not sure if the clues match, but it is a thought.
Hidden Falls is a park, and they have not said its in a park.
Hidden Falls is a large park. If it were a large park, they would have put more effort I think into narrowing down the park already so that later clues could be used to tell where in the park.
No mention of water yet.
No playing in any obvious way in the park (how could that word be insignificant?)
TTHG - well I've got BOTH editions of the book and 3 years practice. If I am not even getting 'close' maybe I shouldn't try. LOL. Hidden also has a circular drive area by all those parking lots.
I swear EVERY year I go and read the meanings of the clues AFTER the hunt and prior to thatI try to read more into them than there really is. How not to do this and be right? Beyond me.
AND to top it off the two years that they hide it in parks like practically ON TOP of my house, I'm all wrapped up in some other issue not to be in the hunt. So obviously it's no where near me this time.
Allison - Hidden Falls does have a circular reference - the Ford Plant is right up the hill - all the wheels are circular. They used that reference when it was there in '93.
The lack of a playground is what bugs me. Otherwise, I think it fits well.
I think clue #1 references what the medallion is hidden in - it's in "place for gold" = treasure chest, or "keep on your toes" could mean it's in a sock, but they just did that a couple of years ago at Cherokee.
Clue #2 says "steer" clear - another, albeit stretching, reference to the Ford plant where they make pickup trucks
Clue #3 says "Circular" thinking and "out of view" = Ford plant and HIDDEN falls
The bank reference meaning river bank is a bit of a stretch too, but ya never know.
Helpful hint to anyone that doesn't have the time to read all the posts.
If I don't want to trudge through all the posts and instead hit the recent button (600+ since last time I read), for some reason it won't mark my current spot after I hit the recent button.
I've found that if I make a post it "bookmarks" this spot in the thread as the most currently read post.
Hope this makes sense and helps those of you having the same problem.
Hey everyone! Well, I just got back from the store. I got the apple cider, 50 granola bars, and loads of cookies. I did some thinking... The hot apple cider will be given free. The cookie packs (16 cookies in a pack) will be 50 cents. The Granola Bars (2 cinnamon bars) will be 50 cents. The hand warmers will be 75 cents each. Does that sound good? If you have any suggestions or questions, post them on my message board at my site. I'm not one who likes to slog alot, so you would be doing me a favor.
This is my first time here in the cooler, but I have been an AVID hunter since '92 at Cherokee.
There has been discussion on how the circles could tie to Hidden Falls. The sixth clue to the 1993 treasure hunt (which was found there) read:
Clue 6 You can see them If you look up high. Some perfect circles Are in the sky. This controversially difficult clue refers to the orange aviation warning balls noticeable on power lines over the Mississippi River.
This will be my fifth year looking since I moved here from Virgina Beach, VA. I love it. I look forward to this every year now. My five year old son, Gunner is hooked also. I have a hunch the park is near by where I work. I am sticking to that and going to look on friday after work and will look every day until found. The word deploy made me think it is where I will be looking. I will let you all know.

In fact..I rule out the small parks every year. Nothing smaller than Conway or Langford.
If I'm right leelabel, I'm sure it will be found this weekend. No more long hunts for the PP until they make me the clue writer! hehe
Newell was smaller than Conway.
Hair splitting.

Elsea...I like Hidden Falls. "Playing" is an insignificant word in this stanza.
TTHG - Thx for signing my book last night. I'll soil myself if your prediction is correct.
plus no mention of water yet, but good noodeling
You have a good point over there leelabel. Steve (Mr. Guide) says its a rec center. Not sure if that is its real classification, but I'm sure its still public ground. But I wonder if they would let people wander around there during the day with the kids around?
I personally like the omission of H2O, Park, paths etc. words
CM..ditto. Give it a look in that spot in the next day or two. I 'spect I'll get out late tomorrow night.

Allison, I am going to drive over there this afternoon. I will report back later. Bye all
The argument against Hidden Falls:
Hidden Falls is a park, and they have not said its in a park.
Hidden Falls is a large park. If it were a large park, they would have put more effort I think into narrowing down the park already so that later clues could be used to tell where in the park.
No mention of water yet.
No playing in any obvious way in the park (how could that word be insignificant?)
No clear circular reference.
TTHG - well I've got BOTH editions of the book and 3 years practice. If I am not even getting 'close' maybe I shouldn't try. LOL. Hidden also has a circular drive area by all those parking lots.
well I think it will end up being in a small park/rec center this year- and that's all I got to say about that!
Allison..don't let Leelabel take that drive.
Just a scouting mission - don't have time to dig.
Cheers Leah! Good Hunting Spirit!
I swear EVERY year I go and read the meanings of the clues AFTER the hunt and prior to thatI try to read more into them than there really is. How not to do this and be right? Beyond me.
Can someone tell me if I am correct in saying that they close the gates at Phalen Park every night?
AW..The absense of water clues doesn't eliminate any of the parks though. They still want to make it a long hunt.
Hello! In the past they didn't say anything about a park but it was in a park. They are just trying to throw us off. I think!?%#
I don't think you can ElseaMae!
Elsea..keep reminding yourself that you know better than to read too deeply into these clues. Ponder, but don't agonize.
AND to top it off the two years that they hide it in parks like practically ON TOP of my house, I'm all wrapped up in some other issue not to be in the hunt. So obviously it's no where near me this time.
Til later comrades...back to the office.
Guide out.

TTHG - Hey as long as I am not the only one not sleeping at night over all this I'm fine. LOL
LOL all
Back to work for me.
Dang, I need to go and actually do some work for a bit! Don't they know what time of year it is? hehe. be back in a bit.
Ill be diggin at hidden falls tonight hope to see some of you there. remember to wear white.

Kid Minneapolis I like that park a lot. I have dug ther since day 1. I can guess the East but how about the WEST
Yes they close the gates at phalen each night
Hidden Falls is also very near WEST 7th street on the far EAST end of Mississippi River Blvd. (although the maps call is Miss. River Blvd. SOUTH)
I see the headline now. 50th Medallion "Hidden"... oh well now I'm going a little too far. But...
Now I'm trying to figure out the remember to wear white ... ? ? ?
Just a marker.

Derick,
Scribe says "Thank You" and that you are a sweetheart!
:-)
I take it the prices are fair scribe?
More than fair, that's why she called you a sweetheart. Otherwise she would have called you a......money hungry bastard?
:-)

Hey Riddler: Just curious, but what site did you get that clue from? I'm just curious if people are using the clue research section of my site...
I have looked at your site (bravo), but this one I got from the CoolerCrew site. And, I also have photocopies and papers from the 1993 hunt.
People are starting to trickle into phalen. Think their to close to wheelock if its there
thanx:)

Do you live by Phalen?
