Might swing by text me if you decide to take off and haven't seen me. Are you going to be someplace else later I thought I remember you saying that before....
Once again there will be those that like them and those that don't.
Headed out in an hour to go and start bundling up the packages for distribution around town. Buttons will be unveiled to the public at 8:30am this year at Billy's on Grand this Saturday!
Again I have buttons for sale and would appreciate the help in getting rid of them before the hunt starts so a plea to purchase from me.
I will be heading over to Yarrusos about 11 after being down at Billy's on Grand. So far I know of possibly 2 people coming out to meet me for buttons... anyone else?
Of course I will be around town in various locations between now and Christmas so we can possibly hook up -
This could be problematic for people who buy their buttons at the PDG. Didn't they give us until midnight on the Saturday before the hunt for online registration last year?
I asked for a set of buttons for christmas, just to keep my collection active
Honestly, the last few years I haven't done much hunting. I've kind of retired to being an armchair hunter until there's really a reason for me to go out and look. The whole deal with finding a huge patch of woods and sticking the medallion in a stump, or a fallen over tree, or what have you, has gotten old. Cut down the prize money (to take the opportunists out of the equation), use a more clever hide and find a smaller park, that should make for a more interesting hunt.
I still enjoy reading the clues and trying to figure them out, and mapping parks and researching online. However, unless I have a REALLY good idea exactly where to look, there's not much point to going out myself.
I bought our buttons this evening and some for stocking stuffers as well. The clerk told me to be sure to hang onto the receipt in case we found the medallion to prove we actually bought the buttons. She went on to say that so many had been stolen that now you have to have a receipt.
Seems odd that I didn't hear that anywhere else, but thought I would share that piece of advice.
I'm pretty sure that the PP would go by who the button is registered to, regardless of who actually bought it. Not sure if the online registration is configured to kick out multiple registrations with the same code. Really though, are people really stealing $5 Winter Carnival buttons? What is the world coming to?
I have been a part of the process and this is how it works:
Registration Cards mailed in: Codes are entered into the system to make sure they are not duplicated, then they are put into alpha order by last name then first.
Registration on-line: Information is printed and filed with the mailed-in registration cards.
When a winner is announced by the PP - they contact the carnival office. The office will pull the registration card as the proof for the xtra prize money...
Last year I actually helped with filing of cards and I also happen to be at the office the day Jake and Rob were declared the finders and helped Beth locate Jake and Rob's registration card!!
Then they're just tossed into a big bin outside Landmark Center for anybody who wants to steal or sell any information on said registration cards. :eyeroll:
So gearing up with the details for Rock the Palace during Winter Carnival. If anyone was planning on attending it will be on the first Saturday of Carnival, Jan 29th... Doors will open at 8pm and the band will start mostly around 9pm... Looks like tickets will be $10 at the door (still working on discount if you have a carnival button).
The band will be the Pearl (in case anyone is interested)...
Monday, January 3 at 5:30pm at Deans Tavern, Maplewood, MN
If you haven't gotten your winter carnival button yet, then stop by and see me. I will be at Dean's Tavern chatting with friends - come buy a button and/or stay for a drink or two!
Question for Kat, are there any other prizes for button registration? One of the lines on the registration card indicates "Be sure to hold on to this card until prizes are awarded"
I know the winter carnival used to have other drawings tied to button registration (trips, gift certificates, etc). But I didn't see any mention of it with the button booklet.
Kat, I need to buy a button, but won't see you until the pre-dig. I told Tim to buy my button, but I'm not sure if he'll get around to it. Can I buy one from you and register it now and pay you then?
Sorry babe.. I do have a Vulc pulled aside for you... I will send you the Registration number on Monday (as I'm currently out of town and don't have it with me)...
PS - And LA did give me grief on your behalf, as well as giving me grief for not having buttons on me (first time in 6 years) when she saw me!! :ooh:
And once again I will have a stash of buttons to sell.
Who wants to meet up for lunch on Saturday Dec 4 to buy their buttons?
maybe I'll try and talk Carolyn into going.
11:00am to 1:00pm
Yarusso's
I will be there with Winter Carnival buttons for sale.
$5 each
Yes there is a 4 pack for you collectors - no bonus button.
Please let me know if you are planning on coming by as I may leave if no one is there.

I tried to keep it smaller less in your face LOL
The deadline this year is January 16, a week before the hunt starts.
Button Registration deadline is 11:59pm on January 21, 2011
SO Yes it is still a problem if you wait until the pre-dig to buy your buttons.... But it's the Friday before the hunt starts.
