Annette, and by extenstion the Pioneer press, need language of the event details for posters and flyers and advertising. Clearly since info's going around wrong already, the information needs to get to those people so that people aren't turned off to the party. So, if you have any more complaints about what's been discussed, or have a better idea, please speak up, otherwise I'll send details to both places.

Both places will be making up flyers/ads on their own, as a reminder, so if you don't like the way they look, take it up with them.

Good deal RB. One more question, did we decide on a starting time for the predig yet?

Forgive me if this has been answered I know it was asked but I don't remember seeing an answer....how late is Yurusso's open that night?

If anyone learns that it really IS 21+, could they post it on here. Ry and I were thinking about coming by but he is still 17. He does have a MN Driver's Permit that lists his birth year as 1934, but I'm not thinking anyone will really fall for that!

why does it say he was born in 34?? that is crazy! but I think you guys would be ok to show up no mater what!

It's not 21+. Yarussos' is open for business as normal that night, and they always let anyone in.

We don't know... his permit came in the mail looking like a normal permit except there was no UNDER 21 box around his picture and they listed his birthdate as 8-5-1934 instead of 8-5-1993. It wasn't even a simple number inversion!

We thought it was hysterical-- it was right around the time Benjamin Button was released so there were a lot of jokes on that line too. We contacted the DMV and they sent us a corrected permit, but he still has the old one.

The stuff that was posted on Facebook was wrong in a few ways:

1) There's no cover charge. Anyone can come, free of charge. If you want to eat, you pay. If you want to drink, you pay. I don't know how many different times and ways I can say that there's NO GODDAMN COVER CHARGE.

2) The restaurant has applied for the late night serving permit, but as of now they haven't heard one way or the other, so the party "officially" ends at 10. "officially" just means that it becomes a private party at 10.

3) Music hadn't been discussed because nobody had asked the DJ.

THERE's NO GODDAMN COVER CHARGE.

well then take it upon yourself to write something better up and finish the job you started rather than doing things half-assed the way you have been throughout this whole process. further more, the fb event invitation is exactly the same text as is posted at the top of this thread, and is the exact same text as is posted on the coolercrew site. you've had plenty of chance to say something before now.

you've been about as clear as a mud fence and expected us to either deal with it or come up with something better. well let me explain something to you. there's no way of knowing whether something is better if people looking for something better don't have answers to questions.

Sorry, but this just seems uncalled for to me. The truth is doing something half-assed is the only way anything can be done around here because if you put your whole ass on the line, it just gets bitten off for not consulting with the group. No one is ever officially in charge, not even the moderators, and so no one is ever comfortable making a definitive statement for fear of overstepping boundaries. Red Bear has done far more than anyone else on this matter, just because he could and he chose to. It was never his duty. If he did it imperfectly, maybe the rest of us could be helpful instead of critical.

One huge way of being helpful would be to actually invest someone with some authority to make definitive decisions so that they can in turn make definitive statements about those decisions. Otherwise all anyone is doing is coming up with options, not plans, and options are by nature fluid. I just don't know how you expect to get solid answers about a plan if the group can't give a solid answer that they're actually going to go with some version of that plan.

Someone angry too many people were thanking RB?

Thank you Ares for posting incorrect information that threw some select members into a tizzy. I don't know what we would do without you.

Clearly if RB hadn't been using covert ops with setting this whole thing you would have somehow been able to find the perfect location for us and no one would have any problems at all with what you found. You would then FINALLY be given your proper title as King of the Cooler Crew.

oh no tim. not in the least. i'm as grateful as everyone else is to bear for getting this setup. its not even 2011 and we've got the predig planned. that's unheard of for is. that said, i think one bear (and perhaps a few others) needs to go back and read the fb event invitation, the header of this thread, and the announcement on the coolercrew site. then perhaps he can explain exactly where in those announcements there was a mention of a "cover charge". or that it was 21+ .no seriously, read the email that got sent out when i created the invite; i could have changed the invite to cover my ass, but if you go back and read your email, you'll see that i didn't. the incorrect information that was posted was from the people responding to the event invite on fb (and the people at the wc who posted it as a 21+ event).

like i said to esd, if i'm going to get accused of trying to make snotty posts (Redbear, "Pre-Dig Gig, Rehash Bash and other Cooler events" #2951, 22 Dec 2010 2:32 pm, a comment that was also uncalled for), i'm gonna be guilty of it, especially in response to an unwarranted dig at me.

aw, as for him doing a half-assed job, i've already talked about his unresponsiveness to the questions that were posed of him; that makes it incredibly difficult to decide whether a better option is around. i wasn't even expecting solid answers, just acknowledgement of the questions' existence would have kept a lot of heat off of him. whether he likes it or not, he created that heat. yes there is a certain amount of heat that comes from doing anything for this group; i'm no stranger to that heat, nor are any of the moderators, nor are anyone who has organized any of our past events. its just the nature of the group because we're not all going to agree. but it is something that one takes on when one volunteers to do something.

as for being king, well i've already declared myself emperor, so being a king would be something of a regression

Here's a thought... did anyone ever pick up the phone and call RB when they saw no response happening??

I for one am not on this site every waking hour of the day and often when I do check back in there are so many posts that have been posted it is very hard to keep track of the ranting that is going on...

Thank you RB for standing out in traffic in getting this set up this year.

no. he'd been on and was just making posts along the lines of "anyone else is welcome to come up with a better solution". he knew the questions were there and was just ignoring them.

Honestly and completely truthfully this is not meant to be snarky I am really curious about this statment at the top

This year's event brings in a new twist. The Pre-Dig Gig is an official Winter Carnival event, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Saint Paul Heritage and Festival Foundation, and the St. Paul Parks and Rec Department (which ultimately benefits us all as hunters).

If there is no covercharge where are these "proceeds coming from? Again I REALLY am just curious.

I really do hope that people plan for donating $10 a head anyways, food or no food. Seriously. A frikin' movie ticket is over $10 in some places. I hope I never live to see the day when the Winter Carnival ends up bankrupt like Taste of Minnesota. Money may be tight, but for the cost of a pack of cigarettes you can have a fun night and stuff your face. What can be Cooler than that?

Kudos to everyone for thinking & planning this far in advance. I haven't even started my Christmas shopping yet.

Being a donator to both events I can easily say that it wasn't the donators that screwed the Taste up. Management is key. As it is with any business or government. If you can't create a demand and find that sweet spot to make cash than you should be fired and the next person gets their chance.

I think they screwed themselves when they started charging for admission. I never went again after that. I'm not going to pay to get in and then pay outragous amounts to eat and be entertained out there.

I think the first year where they charged to get in, but you got the money back in food tickets was ok. $30 to see Counting Crows with no money back was ridiculous.

Looking for info about what goes on at the Klondike Kate try-outs.

Vicky's cousin is trying out, and has invited us to be there (Wed. night 1/5) and we know what time (6:30PM) and where (Prom Center, Oakdale), but haven't been able to find out any other info except what is at this website: . Apparently the tickets are $25. For that price, I'm guessing there is something more than watching people try out? Has anyone been involved in this? Is there food available? For those in my party coming right from work, this is the crucial question!

Thanks for any info! Klondike Kate Tickets

The ticket just gets you in, but she thinks food is available.

She said you could probably call Prom Center and ask.

$25 is for a table - otherwise its $15 general admission (and I think a couple of bucks off if you have a carnival button).

Ticket price is for the "Show" - You have the wannabe's trying out as well as past kate's performing and the current kate saying her good byes... Not sure how many contestants there are - but if I remeber right they all sing 2 songs - then they narrow the field then those selected sing another song - then the "crowning"

No food - Cash bar

Seating goes fast for general admission if not there early to get a table - lots of standing.

There is a lot of talking that goes on in the back of the room as most are carnival people so the closer up front or to the side the better...

I will be going and it is a lot of fun if you have never been... AND the contestants really do love the support of friends - it helps them really get into the part and show off!

Thanks, Ian and Katsmeow!

I called the Prom Center.

Here is the info:

Food is available for purchase at $3-6 per item and the menu includes (there may be additional items):

Soup or chili

BBQ sandwich with fries

Sliders with fries

Just fries

Packaged dessert items (caterer didn't know what those items are going to be)

Cash bar. There may be drink tickets, but the caterer with whom I spoke had no idea how that was going to work.

now that we have the predig all worked out, let's start thinking about the next thing we've been talking about for the last year. tables at the vulcan victoy dance.

last year i think there were 30 of us there equating to 3 tables. since the cost has always been the same, whatcha all who are going say we start thinking about tables now?
