2011 Clues

Transcription of the first video:

The snow sits in humongous drifts, and soon our attention shifts. From recounting ballots and deflating domes, to deciphering the clue writer's idiotic tomes. I am James Goodhue IV! Curmuddgeon-in-chief, 45 degrees north. It will be my deepest pleasure, to hide the annual medallion treasure. Should I this year turn over a leaf? Should I not add to your troubles and grief? Paint Como's frog say "here, find me!" While serving all comers a pot of fresh coffee? Ha! In your dreams, all you noodlers. This hunt's for huskies, not... for... POODLERS! The nearer I approach decrepitude, the more pleasure I take in your ineptitude. I don't truck with touchy feely stuff, my job is make the hunt rough. So, word up now and be foretold: I'll dispatch ye deep into ice and cold.

...probably posted the vid because it's already been ditched somewhere...

BTW - I refuse to noodle anything video-related (unless the RULES say so) - it's all entertainment intended to distract and impress.

If they put it in the woods in this year of full snow, I'm not going to be happy.

Extra class, nice. I wish I had the time to take the exams. As it is, I don't get on a radio much. I guess what I have is sufficient for my electronics tinkering for now

Why is Como listed in the header?

Because Jake already found it at Como. But he's not going to turn it in so that we can all have 12 days of drunken socializing.

Does anyone know how much snow cover we lost the last couple of days? I'm guessing the depth of the snow has shrunk by at least a foot considering it was around the 30 inch mark.

I'd say it's close to 18 that we've lost.

I've got an idea for the 2011 pool for picking the treasure park. The last few years seemed arduous at best, everyone picking a number for order of picking.. then number one picking Como, and then the pondering and posing of each subsequent picker flipping through maps and the like. I know CM spent hours at that table, while a perfectly good party was going on around him.

I'm just throwing this out there-and I'd be happy to facilitate my idea. A simple lottery style contest.

$5.00 a throw. I pre-map the parks and assign them in 25 or 30 or 50 areas. I have the master copy....everyone purchasing a number. Aries buys a try and picks 5, Redbear draws 47. Once all tickets are bought (I get the last one) we unveil the map. Simple clean and random.

All the tickets are sold. We have the $200 pot. Now we show the map. Como was 15 on the map- 47 happenned to be "anywhere else" and Aries got 5, which the map shows to be Harriet Island.

Thoughts?

That sounds very innovative but what's the point? This is supposed to be a pool where you can pick your favorite park or have some reason to pick a certain park. Whether you think it's your keen instinct or sheer luck at the draw you at least get a chance to curb your opinion towards your park. Otherwise we might as well have a random scratch off lottery where you have no choice whatsoever in the outcome.

I want to try and tweak your idea into making it a viable option of some self involvement. I like to pick Mounds every year as many know regardless if it was just there or not.

Chair-O-Key.

Though CoNo just may be in the works if you rely on Mr. Goodhue's words re "touchy feely." At the very least Mr. Goodhue does do research of past Hunts and is, in my opinion, most definitely a Mom Press offspring.

Fair enough CM, I was trying to streamline the process not thinking that perhaps the process is what was the draw.
Sat, 01/01/2011 - 3:33 PM Permalink
mrmnmikey

could do both. I'd take a random drawing ticket and one I could pick myself.

Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt begins Jan. 23, come snow, sleet or subzero temps

By John Brewer

jbrewer@pioneerpress.com

Updated: 01/06/2011 12:01:41 AM CST

With the Twin Cities already slogging through record snowfall, freezing rain and subzero temperatures, the 2011 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt won't be for the timid.

This year's hunt will run from Jan. 23 through Feb. 3, or until the medallion is found. The winner could go home with up to $10,000 in prize money.

First held in 1952 in conjunction with the St. Paul Winter Carnival, the Treasure Hunt challenges readers to solve daily clues and be the first to find a plastic medallion hidden on public land in Ramsey County.

The first of 12 clues will be published in the Jan. 23 edition of the Pioneer Press, with new clues continuing daily through Feb. 3, or until the medallion is found.

Newspapers with the next day's clue will be available starting at about 11:30 each night of the hunt in the lobby of the Pioneer Press building at 345 Cedar St. in downtown St. Paul.

Clues will also go online just after midnight each day of the hunt at TwinCities.com.

Fury Jeep of South St. Paul and Lake Elmo is sponsoring this year's hunt.

Two-time finder Jake Ingebrigtson and Rob Brass picked up $10,000 last year when they unearthed the medallion, wrapped in a plastic bag, at Lilydale Regional Park after the 11th clue.

"This year's hunt will run from Jan. 23 through Feb. 3, or until the medallion is found"

So, potentially this hunt could go past the last clue? Has this this statement been used before?

l and a mommy

I think they mean if it's found on Jan 30 it's over then it won't go until Feb 3.

You're right. It should say 'unless' the medallion is found earlier. Using the word 'until' makes it look like it could go until June. I know it's cutting hairs but I can't remember if it was worded that way before. I'll need to dig out the old papers early I guess.

Treasure Hunt clues will be published in the Pioneer Press and on TwinCities.com beginning Sunday, January 17, 2010. A new clue will appear daily through Thursday, January 28, 2010, unless the medallion is found prior to that date
