Best guess there is nobody was around to turn it in. And knowing the prize money was pretty low... 250 bucks, they probably weren't all that worried about turning it in right away. I doubt many people were even out searching anyway.

what was the trouble?

just turning it in the next morning?

that happens all the time. places arn't open late or at night like the Pioneer Press.

Not much of a warmup :frown: Didn't even get to dig up the park. Had the lanterns ready and shovels sharpened to a "cutting edge". Had visions of filling the night air with the sounds of clanking implements and scratching snow. But it was just another CI (coitus interruptus) in a long list of deflated expectations.

Oh well, Soon it will be time for the "Real Deal".

See ya at PDG. Unless I go and hang with the Super Hero Wicked Nick on the 64. Sounds like he may need a side kick. :pbpt:

Here's something for anyone who wants to get their brain cells warmed up:

The Secret

The Secret was a book published in 1982. It consists of 12 verses and 12 images. Each image pairs with one of the verses to give a location of a buried casque somewhere in the North America. Each casque contains a key. The Key entitles the finder to one of 12 jewels. The Jewels were valued at $1,500 and the casques at $500 each in 1982. Since then, only two casques have been found: one in Chicago in 1984, and the other in Cleveland in 2004. Complicating matters slightly is the fact that the author died in a car crash in 2005, so it's unclear what someone should do should they find a casque. I'm just doing it for fun, not with the expectation of winning any prize. There are links to the images and verses at the link I posted above.

Poor Fergus Falls - whos going to hunt for theirs with St Pauls going on? Although - maybe it might make it an easy hunt for someone.

Mad_Dach5und

Fergus Falls and St. Paul are about 180+ miles away. Not exactly neighbors. I'm not crazy enough to drive 3+ hours in January any further north than St. Cloud on I-94. After that you're in the 'Better have food and snowsuits packed in your trunk' land.

Artemis The Huntress

We're already in that land! Its probably pretty close in mileage for us to get to St Paul or FF - not that we'd ever chose FF over SP.

You'd be surprised (atleast I was) by the number of people that hunt St Paul from central & northern MN.

isn't that what your car looks like during the hunt?

I recall one year...i had a flat tire and was so happy i had all my hunting gear...headlamp, propane lantern, boots, snowpants...made it seem easy.

Man are those some poorly written clues. It hurts to read them. There's so much info in each one that it might pin point it right off the bat. Too far for this guy tho.

Forest Lake Flake Festival Feb 18-25

Medallion Hunt Feb 19-25 $500 prize with a registered button, reg. buttons will also be eligable for $500 drawing.

I wonder if letters/emails ever work... last year they had the first medallion hunt and a couple of other events leading up to the big Fishapalooza contest on Forest Lake. I sent some emails to the city and Chamber of Commerce about turning the whole week into Forest Lake Flaketown days.. since we really don't have a "days" celebration, just a yearly 4th of July celebration. Well low and behold this year they announced in the paper the "Inaugural Flake Festival"

2nd year for the hunt though.. last year the clues were found on:
http://www.flacc.org/

Last year was my "almost find" story. My husband and I were looking hard for this medallion since it was on our turf. I was digging by myself at Bayview Park (tiny- size of a city lot), I saw that someone had dug up all around the play equipment and around garbage cans etc. I decided to dig an area that was open and pristine -midway between the parking lot and play equip, kind of the center of everything. There was a small young tree, so I started a trail towards the tree following what looked like an old set of footprints, then started to dig a circle around the tree and work my way out. The snow was almost 2 ft deep and I'm neurotic about being meticulous when digging as not to miss anything so it was taking me awhile. After about 1.5 hours I had to leave to get ready for work- determined I would come back the next morning. Later that night I found out it was found about 7 ft from that tree. :crying: I almost had it.

Any way- not sure if I can even look this year as I may be out of town for training for work.. trying to delay this.

We are doing the coon rapids one - even tho Marley said after last year NEVER AGAIN. and just like last year the clues are ?!? what?!

you think you have something then she throws in something totally unrelated. Anyone have ideas?

Damn Tater! :crying: that sucks! If you do get to do it this year, maybe we can meet up my parents live in FL.

I know Jake wants to do it but I looked at him crazy cause I know the clues are always unrelated to where it's hidden except usually 1.

Thanks CM! Upon closer inspection of the clues - we actually were at the right spot  (which was not off sunrise prarie trail). And if we followed our "rules" and kept searching by where we parked we would have had it. Atleast we knew we were in the right place - that felt good for once! All in all a good day - talked to lots* of people who were also looking and the weather was perfect to be outside.

Forest Lake Flake Festival Medallion Hunt

Clue #1

ItÂ’s that time of year

Get your treasure hunt gear

The medallion awaits to be found

Head outside to play

No time like today

What you seek does not lie on the ground

Clue #2

This hunt is no prank

Visit the right bank

And five hundred awaits you in cash

The trick is to know

Which park you should go

Get it right and pile up quite a stash

  • ** So I'm a little disappointed that they tell you on the first clue that it's not on the ground, which greatly reduces your search area to manmade objects or trees... :eyeroll: My husband and I went to our first hunch today which was Cedar park which is next to the Compost site (pile). There were 4-5 other people there looking already checking every tree just beyond right field. I think this thing will be found soon if not already.

My only other thought is that "bank" and "pile" could mean that it's in a big snow bank/pile therefore it's high off the ground.

Funny thing is we were ran into the former mayor of FL at the park who was on his 4th park of the day looking for it.
