Went disc golfing at North Valley about 11:30 am Saturday - on 494 just before the river bridge the old B-17 Bomber out of Fleming Field buzzed by just above the treetops heading east. On the way home at about 2:30, I saw it returning from an air show near the 94/694 interchange.

I used to build models of those old bombers for 4-H projects, and to see one airborne is rare and very cool. I even had my camera - but stopping hard on the freeway just to take pictures would've been a BAD idea.

I think I saw the same one, or something similar, passing over county rd b in maplewood on saturday, and wish I'd had my camera handy.

My uncle was a member of Hook 'Em Cow flying club which founded Fleming Field. They built the first hangar. Our house was straight down the hill from the airport.

During WWII he flew into St. Paul Downtown airport in a B something....don't remember if it was a 17 or 25. He and the whole crew spent the night at our house. I was just a kid and was absolutely thrilled when a bunch of fliers in sheepskin gear showed up!!

Thanks for the invite...I have to do a date check.

Mikey - I've got about $350 worth of fireworks, and I can bring some safe launch tubes for anyone who wants to bring rockets or roman candles so they don't fall over. Is there any livestock/animals we have to worry about scaring with fireworks? I don't want to cause a stampede.

I also have a (8 person?) large dome tent that can basically fit two full-size air mattresses or a few sleeping bags. I'm probably going to hog half the space with my crap, but there's still room left over. If it's steamy hot like this week I'll probably bring a 100 ft extension cord and a small fan or two.

--- The guys out of Flying Cloud in Eden Prairie have a B-25 Mitchell and I've seen that flying before with its 2 big engines, but the four-engine B-17 is nearly twice the size and twice as rare to see airborne. I want to go down there someday and watch them fire those big motors up.

My nephew is the navigator on a B-52 bomber based out of Shreveport, LA. They used to fly in for the air show at Fort Snelling in the summer but haven't been here for the past couple of years. Once he took us up into the cockpit. It is two stories high and very cramped, couldn't have been any larger than 6x6, and is accessed by a rung ladder. The rest of that large plane is bomb bays. It was pretty exciting to get to see that as he told us few civilians ever do.

Cooler! Fire works would be great! Theres a lot of shade in a lot of areas out there.I'll probly buy some more fireworks myself. I already asked the farmer across the street if its ok. He said no problem. Cows don't mind. His dog might go hide though. Gonna be fun!

I'm actually headed out East right now to pick some up. Where did you go again Dan? I'm headed to Roberts at Phantom. Been a member for many years now and they treat me well but always looking outside my comfort zone. How about you Ares? Or anyone else? I usually buy a few larger assortments along with some fun finale shots. Better deals with the assortments as long as I still get certain specific loads that I like.

I think it's cool that Dan's place has a show that displays what they have and you check what you like. I always miss my place as it's usually earlier in the year when I'm not thinking about it yet.

We stop at that big warehouse place just off of 94 in Baldwin. Don't know if buy one get one for $1 is really a deal, but it makes me feel better.

Has anyone tried playing that guitar or whatever it is on Google today? My audio isn't working for some reason. Looks like fun though.

The store that did the demonstration shoot is Fireworks City in Baldwin - they've been there the longest. Phantom in Roberts is a good place too, but it's not right off the freeway.

The buy one/get one for 99 cents was buy one/get one FREE the night after the shoot, and the large 500 gram cakes were discounted for a 3 pack special as well. Plus my name was one of first drawn out of a hat for a $50 gift certificate.

The other, newer fireworks store in Baldwin is every bit as big as Fireworks City, and their inventory does vary slightly for about the same price. I just don't like going to the newer store because the head manager is in there on weekdays and he's pushy as hell.

All of those fireworks places are basically family stores where they give up their holiday every summer to make a boatload of cash - much like a lot of the food booths at the state fair. The older men that work at Fireworks City are out at the airport doing the demo shoot, and all the ladies at the cash registers are their wives and moms and girlfriends who step in for the extra help.

Just got back. My car and trunk are packed to the top. I went the speed limit the whole way back and was even passed by a state trooper when this idiot flying about 95 almost sideswipes the trooper. I told the girls to watch the fun happen in front of us. They were impressed at how stupid some people can get driving. Drunk I assume by the way he was swerving and having a very hard time pulling over in front of the cop and I.

Then we catch our breath and decide not to go out for fries just to get Ali's friend home and this stuff safe and unpacked. Well wouldn't cha know it that I just happened to do a minor rolling stop at the sign on the corner of her friends house. WTF?!

So we were all 'this is it' ' here we go' You could barely see her friend in the back past all the assortments inside the car. Then a miracle happened where my illegal tint happened to be just dark enough to hide the drivers back seat where he couldn't see in even with the spotlight on us. I thought he'd nail me for the tint too. Nope. He let me go with a warning and only said that I should be careful because of my speeds on my record. I thought I only had one in the past 90 days but he said I had two and that three offences would revoke my license. And that puts even more emphasis over a pretty bad speed that I just avoided. Needless to say daddy here is towing the line as much as possible. I feel like I did when I worked the evening shift and would be pulled over all the time just because I was on the road after midnight every night blending in with the drunks.

Either way I got a hell of a deal and have plenty to last throughout the summer. Used 4 big coupons and even a coupon that gave you any $50 item if you bought at least $25 in gas within 24 hours of driving to their showroom (had to drive at least 25 miles)

Fun trip even if my freshly waxed car actually seen some sprinkles. Ouch! :ooh:

Sounds like quite the adventure, CM. I've been intrigued by Victory Fireworks in Ellsworth, WI. They're a wholesale place that carries the major brands plus their own brand, Pyro King. But you have to buy a whole case of each item. They show videos of their Pyro King items on their web site.

Party at my cabin this weekend! Hope to see some of you there!

60 3rd Ave

Clear Lake, WI.

DO NOT USE MAPQUEST TO FIND IT!!

USE GOOGLE MAPS! ItÂ’s the only one that finds it correctly.

HereÂ’s the directions.

1. Head east on MN-36 E

About 21 mins from St Paul

 go 12.6 mi

2. Turn right at MN-36 E/Chestnut St E

Cross Stillwater bridge

Entering Wisconsin

About 1 min

 go 0.3 mi

3. Continue onto WI-64 E

About 41 mins through Forest, Wi.

 go 31.9 mi

4. After Forest, Turn left at Co Rd P

Follow all the way till you see County Road "A" at a stop sign.

5. Turn right at 30th Ave (County Road "A")

When the County road "A" turns to the right, continue strait on the smaller road. It will be called 30th avenue. Keep going strait until it crosses the County line at Polk/Barron St or "County Line Road". It then turns into 3rd ave and keep going strait 1/2 mile past the county line.

8. Continue onto 3rd Ave by going straight

About 1/2 mile after the county line on 3rd. Look for #60 sign on front lawn by driveway on left. Just past the 2 corn drier things (Silos). Youll see my truck.

total 55.7 mi

#60 - 3rd Ave

Mikey, have you ever taken the Hammond exit off 94 and follow Cnty T to A? That eliminates going through Baldwin and there's very little traffic on T, especially on holiday weekends. You just follow T north until it ends and take a right on A. We go this route on our way up to Barnes.

Meet Lilliana Jane Parsons, my newest grandbaby! She was born on July 7 weighing 6' 8". Not bad for being almost a month early. Abby was on bed rest since May 23, the last 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital because she had placenta previa. The women will know what I'm talking about. So we're thrilled she made it as long as she did.
