2012 - Tony Schmidt Park

Submitted by ares on
2012 Clues

So its back to the drawing board for next year
to find a spot so deep and drear.
Harder to reach all you whiners
than those buried Chilean miners.

Next year's clues will inspire dread
requiring knowledge of languages dead,
Higher math rocket science
disbanding every hunters alliance.

I take your leave. I bid adieu.
I go in search of the perfect clue.
Prepare to hike hard dig deep and delve.
Will have a grand party in 2012.

The Ramsey County website lists it as a regional park which includes Perry.

What do you mean a joke? From Wiki:

The first Holiday Inn in the United States opened off the present day corner of US Interstate 94 and McKnight Rd in Maplewood, Minnesota in 1828. At the time Interstate 94 was a wagon trail to Milwaukee, Wisconsin known as the Carouser Trail. Kemmons Wilson, a traveler from Memphis, noticed large numbers of Native Americans traveling down the Carouser Trail heading to the Wild Rice fields in near by lake (now named Battle Creek Lake). These Native Americans would set up very crude tee-pees to live in as they stayed a few days to harvest rice and hunt deer before returning home. They would often be attacked by wild dogs, or grow sick from contaminated water in a near by brook. Wilson realized he could become very rich by creating temporary lodging for these Native Americans, as well as other travelers along the Trail.

So see! BC it is!

I would say they are separate because when they built the Elner Anderson trail they had to secure rights from the city to pass the trai through Perry.

Mikey posted a picture on Facebook of a bunch of cooler heads by a post in the park which shows a map of the trails in the city. Perry Park is listed separately, but it was connected by Elmer's trail.

Why do I bother with the PP boards? Well to fuck with people... but at the same time, sometimes they actually give a good nugget.

Could Woof goes the dog = a Dogwood bush? Very distinct branches from all other trees and shrubs.

Blah. I just really don't even want it to be in TSP at this point. Kind of tired of getting burned, and then just following the masses to a park at the end. Even if I was in the wrong parks all weekend, I didn't really care. I can be in the "right" park for a week and still not find anything. I guess if that's where it is, and the hunt lasts for a few more days, I'll go, kicking and screaming, to the park.

Ah well, at least the pirate medallions gave me some small sense of accomplishment, kind of a fun thing for them to do anyway.

I just hope "Holiday Inn" isn't the Bing Crosby clue of a few hunts ago!

In looking at the map, it does look like Perry is excluded from the regional park. I was mostly curious because of the park pool.

Yeah saw that same website.

So is it TSP or Perry then? I looked all over these parks last 3 days :frown: Nothing found except another geocache and 8 baseballs. Based on the clues not sure if it really is specific enough to narrow down a location of the park, except maybe last night's clue which says that perhaps it's closer to the Lake if anything, so I guess that would mean TSP over Perry, or everything before that tunnel that enters Perry?

yeah - I got that last night too....but thanks just the same! :sheepish:

Well then it could be either park still. Because if the left of the Anderson trail is still technically Perry then it's still before the Tunnel.

I hope and trust you shared all this, very acurate and detailed, info on the PP boards!!

Technically it is excluded, but, and I don't know how much it matters to the clue writer - the difference is where they get the funding for maintaining the park (city verse county fund) Tony Schmidt still has a 'swimming beach'. <- if this is in reference to the leisure. It also offers a boat dock, which, is certainly a leisure activity.

Holiday Inns were named after the film. Remember, no film or movie or song has not been discovered in any of the clues, as far as I know. In all the Hunts I have done, there has been some song or movie reference. Maybe seasoned hunters can correct me.

I used to like figuring out the song/movie clue. Unless its the song tracks this year.

I saw TMK and talked with him yesterday in a Ramsey County Park - hahaha - don't want to give away your "secret" location TMK  geeesh

Well everything adjacent to the lake has been thoroughly searched over. I mean there are a lot of leaves/tall grass right next to the lake so people could have missed it, but I think it's safe to exclude that part of the park right by the parking. It's probably somewhere off the Anderson trail to the left or to the right, not more than 25 paces or so in, perhaps attached to the bark of a tree and before you go through the tunnel to the main part of Perry. Although the CW did say something about "many are hidden in many a park" and "if you find the right one you aren't far away" which is probably referencing pirate medallions and the pirate medallions haven't been found in the woods, they've been found on benches and by trees right by trails and such, so that would mean it's not smack dab in the middle of the woods but closer to the trail I would think.

Why wouldn't I share such a great noodle with other hunters? That would be selfish of me not to.

I don't think this is accurate of 1828....are you messing with us??? YES, I think so. I fell for it, twice now!

I've seen Jesse A LOT! matter o fact, out in the same Ramsey County Park I saw TMK, infact I saw them TOGETHER - don't want to give away Jesse's "secret" park either --- insert eye roll here

(thats not intended for you llbell but for others who think we are still so secretive about where we are hunting).

oh and it seems that CPP is actually IN the regional park. So it's apart of it. ??

One of the best things about the hunt, is when everyone agrees on a park and hunts together. Not that that's happened, please find it.

Lee wouldn't have anything to do with the hunt - no park is nailed just because there is a reporter or celebrity in a park. Don't cha know Jake was out in BC and TS so which park is it? Isn't he a celebrity?

My dad has decided to join me today. We're on our way now. I'm in black snow pants and a long army green jacket. My dad is Shorty Ehman, the auctioneer, and is wearing his work jacket. Say "hi" if you see us and I am interested in buying two pirate medallions.

I hate it when one of the local news stations reports where everyone is. Then it draws all the people who don't even realize the hunt is going on. They think they can come and swoop in on our precious medallion.

We should pay some homeless people to go dig up Shamrock, then send the news crews out there to report.

House is ok, kind of in shambles as I'm trying to organize everything. Thanks for asking. And the fiancee is doing fine. She's been keeping warm down in Texas and Florida for the last few weeks.

Yeah, I guess I've just been frustrated lately. I suppose with trying to get settled in the house and all, added to spending a bunch of time out looking in the wrong parks, just seems like I've been wasting time I could be using more efficiently. Granted a 10,000 prize would certainly help my pocketbook, it feels more like buying a lottery ticket this year than having fun (btw I never buy lottery tickets because I think they're a waste of $$). I'm sure I'll be fine in a week or so when everything has settled down and I can get back to taking care of things.

for the park pool I think it has to be whatever the paper says it is. If they say scmidt/perry perhaps a split between schmidt and all others? If they say Perry then its "all other" in my opinion and not schmidt.

See the "BOX" in the lower left side of the map? Theres a pond in it with an areator on the north side with a brook that runs from it to the swamp to the east. To get there you have to "search THROUGH thee land of Perry". Theres a barking dog inside the fence, a babbling brook just outside the box on the map. Then again, I could be wrong..

I decided to try looking up maps of Perry Park instead of TSP and those maps show something very different from the map in the Master Plan. On these maps Perry actually shoots up the right side of the trail quite a ways while TSP comes down the left side. I think the trail itself is the interfacial road!

That dog is hilarious, kept inching up to us, barking, as we went down the path until we were at the edge of it's "territory" where it stopped, within a few feet of us. Steve asked him where the medallion was hidden and it actually pointed!
