l and a mommy

I promised the kids Monday I'd take them to the Y for Rock Climbing and then I decided to hunt instead and then I promised tonight (they only have rock climbing 2 nights a week) so I'm locked into tonight so I can't make the Pity party tonight.

Have a blast take some pictures and share them. Hope to see you all in the park(rehash is?)

Hey, if we have electricity I can do Schmidt beer cheese soup!

I don't know if door prizes or a program are being planned, but I do have potential prizes I can bring. Here are two vintage Schmidt Beer patches, from the plant on West 7th. One Pfeiffer patch, as the Schmidt plant was once owned by Pfeiffer Brewing of Michigan. People of a certain age will remember Pfeiffer as the 3 cases for $13 beer. And one unworn Pioneer Press hat from a giveaway during the Cherokee Hunt. Let me know if I should bring any of these items.

Hey Treasure Hunters,

Gabe's is inviting you and as many past medallion finders as they can muster to the bar/restaurant beginning at 4 pm Friday (Feb 3) for a hunt celebration. Bring a camera and an appetite -- free food will be provided.

Spread the word, please.

It's a bar bar and it may be somewhat small. But its warm and has a separating wall with cutouts between the bar and event room. So we can work with both types of dynamics within our group. There's a way around the catering issue that's already been discussed so we can bring in our own chow.

personally, its not every year that we get the opportunity to pic-a-nic out in the beginning of february, and the weather with a high of 38 seems like it will cooperate nicely. but i'm not too picky; just wanna have a nice get together.

It works for me as well. Could be looking at -20 next year.

On that note, I see that we missed the record high of 46 on Tuesday by one degree. And some question me when I remind them of the big warm up during the '95 hunt at BC that holds the record for that day. I also remember a nice day when it was at the capital but it got real cold in a hurry that very same day by the time the next clue came out. The CP hunt during the ice palace melt was probably the nicest hunt weather I can remember until this past clue 10 for about an hour during the afternoon. Many of us happened to leave the south part of the park at that time and by the time we drove to the north park it was cold and cloudy. Glad we brought our jackets even though we didn't need them when we were by the lake. It was very odd.

so shall we just take over tony schmidt then and enjoy the nice day there? 11:30 or noon?

Did we ever find out if the electricity is on to the main pavilion?
Thu, 02/02/2012 - 12:52 PM Permalink
King Boreas aka Ian

I was there today, and did not think to check it. It's Ramsey County, so I don't know their policy. I've had Events in Saint Paul several times over seven years, and the electricity has always been on.

The gate is now closed on the Pavilion side. An Arden Hills truck was in that area today.

Whenever works for me. Tony Schmidt is not too far from my house, I can run by there on my way home from work to check for power. I'll let y'all know.

An Arden Hills truck was in that area today.

Someone in the parks department drew the short straw and had to go do cleanup in the park.

Could someone call Arden Hills parks tomorrow, see if the gate could be opened on Sunday? Not having to trek a long way with food would be most favorable.

They could then also make sure there is trash cans so we can discard the waste properly.

1st pick would be to have it at TS.

I can't believe the park system can't send someone out to flip a switch.

2nd pick would be BrassCats idea.

3rd pick would be to follow the Cooler Masses

bummer- then we may have to go to the "gazebo".

I preferred a shelter due to the close proximity for kids to play on the playground.

I have a weber tailgate type propane grill and a two burner coleman

camping stove if we do the outside picnic. My guess is the power is shut

off when they close the pavilions, turn off water, etc., for the season.

Knowing I couldn't talk to anyone today while in the middle of these crazy meetings, I emailed the ramsey county parks last night to ask if the gate could be open. I explained what we were doing, when, about how many people and asked for a reply or a phone call to leave a message. Gave them phone numbers and didn't hear a thing.

So TSP at 11:30 with no open gate unless they just do it without responding, question whether there is electricity for crock pots, but a good time will be had anyway.

To avoid this next year, perhaps we should reserve the Newell building at the beginning of January and let them know we'll cancel whichever weekend we don't need it. They will get their 7 days and this will be a non-issue next year.

Got this at 7:30 this evening from Ramsey County:

Terry - I am sorry as I am getting to this e-mail for the first time and now it is Friday evening and this was not brought to my attention a I was at another work location all day today.

Actually, I would have been hesitant to open the gate as we had an incident this past fall when one of our users did not secure the gate closed and then opened up to damage a car as exiting. So more then likely would not have allowed to open this area. We closed in this section for the winter (what winter), but you are welcome to walk across the street and use the shelter. In the winter we have limited trash cans in the area and with little notice, we will have to ask that you pack out your garbage, if cans are at the shelter, you are welcome to use them and I will have our crews check on Monday. Again, I would have been happy to work with you, but late in this notice and sorry for my delay in getting this e-mail.

Sounds fun!

NOTE: I didn't ask for anything but the gate to be open.

By the lake or up the hill?

I vote for by the lakeside parking lot so we don't have to pack the

gear up and down the hill.

I'll bring the grill and two burner camp stove with propane and

utensils to grill our burgers and brats.

witchdoctor - if you're bringing the heat, and I heard someone else is bringing a generator, with all that lugging, I think that is a great idea.

Lake Johanna - lakeside pavilion

11:30 am

The lakeside pavilion will make it easier for those bringing grills, stoves and generators.

There is no electricity onsite.

We have been asked to carry out any trash if there are no trash cans available.

Also remember, some people will be at the Vulcan Victory Dance tonight where they will have loud music playing. Thus the people who go may have a hard time hearding you, so when you see them stumble into the Rehash, be sure to greet them loudly so they can hear you. :barf:

I have heard again from the parks of Ramsey County. They now offered to open the gates, but I told them we had decided on the lakeside pavilion. I did ask if there was a way to turn on the electricity for the day. I will let everyone know as soon as I hear back.
