2012 Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt

Submitted by Clue Master on
Clue 1:

Oh how we shudder when flakes start to flutter
For the poor treasure is covered with snow
Oh how we shiver with hope but a sliver
But in truth, to heights of glory you'll go.

Clue 2:

In personal lore, those who came before
Sit near in territory forbidden
In medallion lore, a singular score
Gives a clue to where the loot is hidden.

Clue 3:

To connect the dots, go line up your shots.
You’ll have to travel a bit but not much.
When you’re in the clear and the coin is near,
There is water you can see but not touch.

Clue 4:

Though you might pledge to live life on edge
There's value powering up the middle.
For the spot is marked where you're double parked.
See if you can figure out that riddle.

Clue 5:

For finding the puck, just look to the buck.
It will give a clue to the hidden stash.
X will mark the spot if you spy its slot.
Stay under three and you can win the cash

Clue 6:

How do hunters know where their shovels go?
Do we dot the landscape with snow divots?
As an advisor I'd say dig wiser.
Check your books. On that your success pivots

Clue 7:

Searching to and fro, best to go in slow.
Take a leisurely walk and do not run.
You shan't have a care out there in fresh air
Where day or night you can bask in the sun

Clue 8:

Some places to play keep boredom at bay
But seeing three thousand might make me wince.
Let's ourselves excuse, maybe get some booze.
We'll spend the prize to party like a prince.

Clue 9:

If you need a spark to find the right park
Seek one that has a variety of sports.
But don't stop to play, instead I would say
It would be best to look between two courts.

Clue 10:

Go give it your best while out on this quest
And you may qualify to be knighted
But if you digress, this you must address.
As it may prove you’re beyond nearsighted

Clue 11:

Come on now, with aid you can still get paid.
Crying o’er naught will always yield zip.
Your fate will be sealed out there in the field
Where there’s nothing else on which you might trip.

AW, what time is the kickoff going to be next weekend?

The deed is done.

You have maybe 20 hours to find the medallion. Should you decide to wait for the clues, you will have to dig through the snow.

The kickoff will be at 6pm. I'll be releasing the clue at 6:30. I think we'll just plan to meet at Gabe's by the Park this year.

David, is this hunt a 24 hour one or a 12 clue/12 day one? How much is registration? Is registration by individual or can they register as a team? I will inform the darlins about the kickoff Friday. Thanks!

12 clues/12 days. Registration is $10, in the past you get the full pot if you find it and are registered, or like 20% of the pot if you're not registered. Oh, and I believe that the kickoff is Saturday.

Indeed Alex is right. This is a 12 clue (potentially), 12 day hunt. Registration is $10 per person and it is on an individual basis (that's how we get the prize money). You can pay the $10 at the kickoff party (this Saturday at 6pm at Gabe's) or you can send the money via Paypal to AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com

If you'll recall, Jake bet me $100 during the hunt that the medallion was in Battle Creek (and lost). That $100 plus another $100 from me will be in the pot plus all of the registration fees. Consequently I expect the prize this year to be arounnnnnnnd $400 total. If you're registered, you get the whole pot if you find it. If not, you still get $100 and the rest of the registration money will go towards another hunt.

aw, when you get a chance, could you either post here, or pm me, your wonderful description of your ideals for your mock hunt? i've read it over and over again, and since i'm migrating content on the cooler crew site, i'd like to include your overall description of it.

I'm a little fuzzy on what exactly you're referring to. Is it the overall description of the hunt I write up? Otherwise I can't recall what the ideals were. Maybe an example would clarify.

yeah, basically. the bits about how you tend to try to pick focus on the weaknesses of that year's pp hunt and what not.

Listing the Pre-dig times and locations in THIS thread would also be enormously helpful...?

The kickoff party is tonight at 6pm. We'll be meeting at Gabe's. I made a reservation under my name.

Re-posted from Alex's post on FB:

The kickoff is tonight at Gabes at 6pm, with the clue release at 6:30. Registration is $10, you need to be registered to be eligible for the full prize, which is estimated to be in the ballpark of $400. The clues will be released at 6:30 pm nightly on Ableminds and AW's Yahoo Group. I will do my best to repost them here, however I will be out of town next weekend, so someone else might have to do it then. The rules are basically the same as the winter carnival hunt, 12 clues/12 days. The only exception is that the medallion will be in St. Paul proper, as opposed to all of Ramsey County.

The pot is now sitting at $433 (including the $33 Ken donated that we didn't need to pay for a shelter for the Rehash). If you still want to register and haven't yet, you have until Tuesday at 6:30. Paypal would be easiest at this point, but if that doesn't work for you, let me know.

So now that I'm at my computer, and not half asleep, let me see if I can answer Ares question from before.

When planning the Mock Hunt, I do usually look at what happened during the PP hunt and try to counterbalance it in some way. So in a year like Crosby, when everyone was in the same park most of the hunt, I made it more of a figure out the right park sort of hunt. In years when people were all over the place in the PP hunt, I may try to get people to my park earlier so they can hang out together. If the PP used a large park, I might pick a small park. Of course it's up to you to try and figure out what aspect of this year's hunt I'm trying to counter balance.

If people ask me when I think it will be found, I usually say clue 8 or 9 unless the hiding spot is especially devious. I think a good hunt should go at least 8 clues (though the possibility of it being found earlier definitely needs to be there). Once it gets past clue 9, I tend to think "I can't believe they haven't found it yet". While the tension and excitement ramps up on clues 10 and 11, I really don't want it to get to clue 12.

Finally, once it's all over and I post the explanations, either people will have figured everything out, or they will look at something and say "I can't believe I missed that!" If they look at the explanation and go "What?", then that was a bad clue.

So those are my overall guidelines in designing my hunt.

Here is the new clue:

Clue #2

In personal lore, those who came before

Sit near in territory forbidden

In medallion lore, a singular score

Gives a clue to where the loot is hidden.

And the previous clue:

Clue #1

Oh how we shudder when flakes start to flutter

For the poor treasure is covered with snow

Oh how we shiver with hope but a sliver

But in truth, to heights of glory youÂ’ll go.

Oddly this has got to be probably one of the first times that a noodle came to me in a dream where it actually wakes me up. Weird. Now I have to use it wisely. Which is the next problem. Hope to see you out there today people. Tomorrow should be a nice hunting day too.
