That may work nice. Just need to be strict that the buffet is for those who pay for the buffet and not a free for all. Glad you talked with them AW. Nice pull.

So.... you're PDG too?

pre-paid buffet sounds good.

Will it be straight off Joseph's banquet menu?

It could be, or we may be able talk them into a variation if need be. Just to be clear from the start though, the idea would be to have the buffet as an OPTION with the hope that most people would go ahead and take that option. You wouldn't be required to eat at all, and if the buffet doesn't work for some people, it's ok for a few to order off the regular menu. But any place you go to on a Saturday night will have a hard time keeping up with a ton of individual orders as we have seen.

Hey, Joel,

I'll be in North St. Paul tomorrow morning, and will be in Maplewood on Sunday 2/19. Could swing by and meet up with you someplace if that would work for you. Tomorrow it would probably be just after 10AM when I head back from NSP. On the 19th, probably around 1PM when I head home from Maplewood.

Just let me know if that would work. I have the plate in my car, so really anytime we can hook up would be fine.

Maybe you'll come join us at Carbone's when we do that???

Sign me up, please. I'll choose the buffet.

Thanks AW and everyone else who pulled this plan together. We've been talking about trying Joseph's for a PDG for quite some time, and this is a great opportunity to do just that.

Anyone up for meeting for pizza this evening?

Would 7PM work?

If we don't care about beer or wine, any Carbone's would be fine.

But I notice that Carbone's in WSP and IGH only have soft drinks listed on their menus.

Eagan Carbone's has the following alcohol beverage menu:

Bottled Beer $3.15

Mikes Hard Lemonade $3.45

Summit Extra Pale $3.45

Leinenkugels Honey Weiss $3.45

Bartles & Jaymes Wine Coolers $3.45

White Zinfandel 1/2 Carafe $6.25 Glass $2.85

Lumbrusco 1/2 Carafe $6.25 Glass $2.85

Individual Bottles $3.75

I baby sat the grandboy last night, and he is not a good sleeper, so I am going to grab a nap, but will check back here around 6PM and be ready to head out to whichever Carbone's we decide.

I think we could all use a little cheering up today, eh?

I should add, Carbone's on East 7th also has only soft drinks.

Carbone's on Randolph is still in business, although apparently not part of the Carbone's franchises.

http://www.carbonesonrandolph.com/menu.html

Only soft drinks there, too.

But I know we have talked about going to Carbone's on Randolph sometime.

The alcohol doesn't matter to me, one way or the other, but I thought it would be best to let people weigh in on that.

We're going to a birthday party this evening. If you all go, have a piece of pizza for us.

I just called Carbone's in WSP.

They now have a full liquor license.

They still do not do pitchers.

They can accomodate us at 7PM on the southern side of the building, but they have a large party in the northern side at 6:30 tonight.

'Full' liquor license?! Wow They should remodel so you can see the bar from Wentworth to generate business. I wonder what the cost difference is between a beer/wine license vs a full license? I would guess it isn't cheap.

OK, still haven't gotten to that nap, but that's OK.

Just thinking about pizza has energized me!

I'm going to make an executive decision.

Carbone's on Wentworth in West St. Paul.

This evening (Saturday, February 11) at 7 PM.

Please post or send me a PM if you are planning to be there, so I can let Jerry Carbone know how to plan.

Terry, I know you have that party tonight, but we'll get together again soon.

I think a lot of people liked the idea of reviving STB Live.

Getting together once a month or so, in the parks when it gets nicer out, but just staying in touch throughout the year is so nice.

OK, well, that was probably too short of notice. I don't see any takers, and I guess I probably should have posted it on FB too.

I'm heading to Carbone's anyway.

Would love some company if anyone shows at 7PM.

If no one shows by the time my food is ready, I guess I'll have mine to go. :sheepish:

There are only a couple of discounted rooms left for the annual St. Patricks Day Leprechaun party at the Kelly Inn. They only have until Saturday before they're forced to give them back to the hotel so they can sell them at full price. I haven't been to this party in the past although I've heard great things about it from those of you who have gone every year. I'm looking forward to it and being safe from driving. I know there are a couple of you looking for roomies so maybe you singles can hook up to save a few bucks.

Yes, I do have Joseph's reserved for Saturday night, the 19th. We haven't set a start time yet. I may go for something like 6pm because new people tend to come early and I can set up some get to know you activities to start out with. I need to call them and work out the exact details. I suspect they will want to treat it like a banquet but I'm going to try and talk them into letting people order off the menu since it's likely people will be ordering at all different times rather than all at once. They do have a minimum purchase for the room, but I have 0 doubt about meeting it, especially since it includes food and drinks.

I would think getting a 'Timeline' agenda for that night would be invaluable to any newbies or people that don't want to dwell around for the whole evening. Granted, we don't have many 'events' scheduled, but if we knew the times for the park pool or doing a group photo, etc... it might make things go more smoothly. Just sayin'

So here's the plan I have with Joseph's (without knowing what else people have been discussing elsewhere). We're going to have the room starting at 6pm (though if there is any setup anyone needs to do earlier, that won't likely be a problem). From 6-8pm they are going to have a pasta bar. Basically that involves a guy behind the table taking the ingredients you prefer, putting them in a pan with pasta, cooking them up and covering them with either red or white sauce (or even both). I've had this here before and it's really good. The cost for that will be a flat $15. If you want something else to eat, that is possible, but it's a bit more complex. You'd either have to sit in the dining room, or at least order it in the dining room (from the host) and bring it into the party room with you. I'm going to see if I can still get him to smooth that process out a bit, but again, the pasta bar is truly excellent.

If you want food after 8pm, the same thing applies. You can either sit in the dining room and eat (which may not be a bad option at that point as the dining room empties and the party room gets full) or you can order your food from the dining room and bring into the party room. If that strikes anyone as a problem, I could ask to extend the pasta bar until 9pm but offhand I thought 6-8 would work for those who truly wanted dinner.

We will have our own private bar in the room. My experience is that it's pretty fully stocked so there shouldn't be any need to walk over to the other bar to order anything though you're certainly free to do so.

Joseph's tends to empty out for the most part around 9pm so after that we'll likely have the place more or less to ourselves. The party room seats around 80 people, but we may pull out a few tables after dinner to allow more room for milling around. Overflowing into the dining room for people that want a little quiet isn't a problem. We can also set up music in the party room. There isn't a dance floor, just carpeting, but I have had DJ's in there before.

There is a minimum for having the party room, but no one needs to worry about it. I'm quite confident we'll meet the minimum in drinks alone. If by some miracle of the recession, the entire Cooler Crew can't manage to spend $500 in food and drink, well I'll take that bet and deal with the difference.

Can't believe it's been 15 years....even though I have never actually hunted, well, I live too far away, but I have always followed the hunt and noodling.

I also recall some very devisive/nasty posting on the Ma Planet boards. That of course was political....wonder how those posters would have handled the current situation?
