Places it has been downtown. The Capital Mall [stated later that it would never be there again] ...Kellogg Boulevard [?] ...Mears Park ...The old entrance to the old Selby Streetcar below the Cathedral ["beckoning doors"?] ...The little park up a hill NE of the Capital where fireworks used to be shot off ...Swede Hollow [sort of downtown]

The old entrance to the old Selby Streetcar below the Cathedral ["beckoning doors"?]

are you thinking about in irvine, or in the middle of where 94 now runs (lewis, carroll, rondo, and farrington sts.)? its never been near the cathedral closer than that.

"soul to soar" feels like a homonym to me. The singular "soul" rings funny. Dinosaur?

I like that thought, Green! Good one. I was also wondering if the moving from star to star could be a reference to a previous como hunt... There was some kind of reference to the coldest star by far in the last como hunt which was referring to the l'etoile du nord school. That school has since moved.

Please forgive me if I got some details on that wrong-- exact wording, Etc-- and if someone else has mentioned that idea already. I am in Asia and only have my iPad and slow internet, I haven't gotten caught up on all the postings.

Finally getting through all the long distance slogging. I believe they would reference that hunt as part of a clue and that could be the explanation for this.

correction: no longer a church; that Nord school and now that German school.

Doesn't this clue sound more like a clue 10 than a 5?

Did it seem that way to anyone else?

That would be 99 red balloons (song)

(edit - guess it was already mentioned)

I recall digging on what could be called the lower front lawn of the Cathedral which was city property and if you walked up northwest there was a cave that homeless people were inhabiting that was actually a tunnel for the Selby streetcar line. It had been boarded up. I should google it. I believe it has been removed or filled in.

Not Irvine - which is another place that the treasure was found downtown.

http://forgottenminnesota.com/2011/08/the-rise-of-the-selby-avenue-streetcar-line/

oday, the lower entrance to the tunnel can still be seen near the Cathedral of St. Paul, complete with tracks appearing from a thick concrete wall that blocks anyone from going inside. These streetcar tracks are rare, very few others are still visible in the city. The ornamental iron picket fence on both sides of the channel can still be seen and are original to 1907.

In 2009 a plan was proposed to clear the overgrown vegetation, remove graffiti and perhaps repair the crumbling concrete and fence. In 2010 a historic plaque identifying the siteÂ’s significance was proposed. Unfortunately, at the time of this posting, neither of these have come to pass.

Things that move from star to star ...or seem to:

satellites, UFOs, Paparazzi...

Then there is this phenomenon:

A circumpolar star is a star that, as viewed from a given latitude on Earth, never sets (that is, never disappears below the horizon), due to its proximity to one of the celestial poles. Circumpolar stars are therefore visible from said location towards nearest pole for the entire night on every night of the year (and would be continuously visible throughout the day too, were they not overwhelmed by the Sun's glare).

All circumpolar stars are within the circumpolar circle. This was in fact the original meaning of "Arctic Circle", before the current geographical meaning, meaning "Circle of the Bears" (Ursa Major, the Great Bear; and Ursa Minor, the Little Bear), from Greek αρκτικός (arktikos), "near the Bear", from the word άρκτος (arktos) bear.

Hi All. Maybe folks thought of this, maybe not. Thomas Frankson house (mansion) at its location right outside the gates on Midway. Lions (roar). Check out this article that interviewed the house's residents in 2010. Toward the end, he comments about what the sun does when it shines through the leaded glass, "filled with rainbows." Plus he lost the Governor's race in an era of political turmoil (mired?).

Also, just to say hi since this is my first post, I live down in FL now but was a native of Mpls and last did the hunt in 2010 before moving. Still love to try and solve the clues though. Cheers!

Welcome to the cooler!

I know some people mentioned that house earlier. Not sure if they mentioned the rainbows tie in though. Thanks for the link.

Both authors were all about uplifting the human spirit.

Gates ajar has previously been referred to as the "mansion's door".

Schiller was imprisoned and castigated by Karl Eugen, Duke

of Württemberg. and forbidden to publish anything further.

"After giving them fits

He was mired in the pits"

I knew folks were interpreting the mansion door to be gates ajar, but has Gates Ajar been officially referred to by that alternate name? If so, do you know where (what source?)? Thanks.

Funny - I had just posted this on the facebook page about the Lions - same article with photos - that originally came out in the Park Bugle in 2010. I didn't notice the rainbow mention  Good call!

It wasn't really that bad out once you adjusted. The wind wasn't nearly as bad as yesterday.

Ran into Brewer and said hi today as he was interviewing people in the park, I love how he pretends that he has no idea where the medallion is.

More thoughts about the Green Line. Since normally, railroad tracks would be off limits for hiding the puck due to being too dangerous, this year might be the only time they would ever consider hiding it on the track/trail/public ground.

Since I'm a bit late to posting thoughts on earlier clues, I figured I'd offer up some other ideas. My son-in-law works for the city of St Paul works and often does projects at Como. In fact, my daughter designed the stencils for the animal silhouettes in the bathrooms at the zoo, which my son-in-law painted. So he really knows his way around the park. By reviewing the first 3 clues, we strongly felt it may be in the area near the Lexington and Horton, since that neighborhood juts into the park area (which made me think the reason they stressed no private homes and land was so people didn't walk through yards to get from the golf area/trolley house to the west side of lake, which is the thin ice. But now with the Frankson house, maybe it is on that side. We also felt the whole story of Charlie Pitts, the name of Sandy Lake, all strongly pointed to Como.

The line "from the mansion's front door" as the Frankson place though, you need to look left for the entrance gates to the park, not straight. But that might not matter (or might mean its wrong).

Once you go through the gates from Frankson house, you run into Como town, which has the "soaring eagle zip line" ride. Soar? hmmm.

Oliver Crosby Estate "Stonebridge" was the greatest estate built in St Paul, according to the great Twin Cities author Larry Millet in "Once there were Castles." The estate was "vast and beautifully folly." The estate looks gorgeous, from the photos in Millet's book. The Como Gateposts came from this estate (someone may have noodled this in earlier post, but can't recall).

"Stonebridge was a Xanadu of woods, water and gardens the likes of which will never be seen in St. Paul again in the Twin Cities."

If you want to see some of the gorgeous photos of Stonebridge:

From the splendid mansion's door ...

West Gates

The west gates at Hamline Avenue and Midway originally came from the sprawling estate of wealthy businessman Oliver Crosby. He built a mansion, greenhouses and elaborate gardens—all known as Stonebridge—that overlooked the Mississippi River in St. Paul. After Crosby died in 1922 his will was contested and the estate eventually had to be sold off piece by piece.
