My first impression was..

Now and again, the plans of men Are fouled beyond measure = Best laid plans of mice and men often go astray, from Robert Burns. Burns Ave by Mounds Park?

I wonder if the baseball references have something to do with the old/new Saints stadium. Hmmm....

Me likey!

The top 3 fouled up hunts (to me) are Phalen, Swede, and Cherokee (N vs E)

Without getting park locked too early - I have to say the top 3 parks for me at this point are Phalen, Swede, BC.

I wondered about that too.

I like Lillydale/Harriet Island. Just as an early guess...I almost stepped on it last year because of my early guess.

Wedged could be a terrain clue....natural wedge in terrain. I still think too many clues that scream golf... so early red herrings

Burns wrote -
The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men Gang aft agley,

...just sayin'

Somewhere today among our errands and scouting and noodling, I remembered the 1987 hunt where there was a triangular section of the park the medallion was hidden on.

Perhaps the "wedged" is something similar.

Food for thought anyway.

Or - that they will triangulate us into an area...

yes the triangle bounded by 7th, montreal, and the ridge at the top of the hill from that intersection

1987 hunt was Mounds.

Triangle formed by clemont street, mounds street, and mounds blvd.

treasure found west of the tennis courts across mounds street.

Mounds street has been shortened to eliminate the street pavement triangle.

Thanks for clarifying ..mine really was an adaptation of Burns' writing instead of the actual quote.

I think it is fair to quote him with what you had - I was just bored... :pbpt:

Neecie - check your private messages. I have a couple questions for you.

We need another clue. This one clue a day thing is not my favorite thing about this hunt.

Burns poem prompted Steinbeck to write Of Mice and Men. Steinbeck traveled hwy 10 through St. Paul in 1960. He was a life long follower of the St. PaulÂ’s Episcopal Church in Salinas, California. In November of 2014, a Rare Steinbeck WWII story was published in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Coincidence?

So, I am looking in an old treasure hunters guide I made for myself prior to knowing there was a real one... (last year in it is 2002) and taped in the cover is a little poem, and I don't know if I got it from someone here - or if I wrote it myself.

I'd just like to put a name to it...

Where hither and thither goes the snow, 'tis where my rake and shovel does know,

It beckons - it calls - it wants to be found,

It says to me, "I'm blue and round"

Will you sense me when you are close?

For the one who finds me has first toast.

I bet that is one you wrote Zephy.

Could be, I looked on CC.com and it wasn't there - but I may have picked it up form a post on PF or something...

zephyrus

heh - just glanced the clue again after a little break...

if you think of wedged as a wedge of cheese - the whole clue sounds like a remark about the packers getting beat out of the playoffs...

Okay, time to make dinner

I heard that the NFL is launching an investigation into allegations that

the seahawks under-inflated the packer's egos during a 44 second stretch in the

fourth quarter.

Does anyone know where the Ramsey county jail (circa 1900ish) would have been? I look for old ramsey county jail - and it refers me to the one from 1979... I'm older than that and NOT OLD!!

The workhouse was once at Como in the same section that the pool is now. I don't know when that was built.

Let me see if I can google something

Thanks, I finally found it...

322 St. Peter Street, St. Paul, MN.
Mon, 01/19/2015 - 3:23 PM Permalink
zephyrus

it was torn down in 1930 and replaced with the St Paul city hall building
Mon, 01/19/2015 - 3:26 PM Permalink
Terry

The one standing there now was built in 1932. The one previous was built early 1900s. I know that jails were often in the same building as the court house. I'm guessing the ones pictured in the link I posted could very well be the jail.
