For the record....I have been doing PR for the Cooler Crew. In many of the other forums there have been comments about the influx of new names...I have been explaining who the Cooler Crew are and what they are doing....

Now I can report that they are the FINDERS of the medallion. Well, one of the Crew is.....

Thanks everyone for a wonderful but short year. So glad it was Mappy  Bummed I couldn't get out to snail lake but hey- at least now I can go back to focusing on studying for my motorcycle permit vs. clue research! lol

Anyone else feel a tinge of sadness when the Clue 6 email notification came last night?

That is kinda odd about not putting the med into the woods to make the hunt last longer. Surely (don't call me Shirley) it could have lasted much longer considering the amount of land over there. But glad Mappy found it!

I for one, am glad it wasn't in the woods. It needs to not be in the woods sometimes. Not for any reason but if it is going to be the rule "It will always be in the woods", why bother to hunt anywhere else? Rules out a ton of parks to begin with.

There need to be five clue hunts from time to time, to show it is possible. Every clue should have the possiblity, if you solve it right, to get you to the treasure. And this year, clue 3, really brought you to point, if you figured out what park.

The explanations are basically, what its hidden in, where it is hidden in the park, PARK,PARK,PARK,PARK,PARK,PARK,PARK,PARK,PARK,PARK, exact hiding spot.

I like the format. Kudos to Steve for figuring it out. It wasn't too easy, Steve is too smart.

Hey, I got the musical Brigadoon and the song Almost like Love right back on an early clue, and that reference would have been in clue 8.

Thanks..... yeah it's funny every year we get other Ableminds users popping in and saying how much they enjoy the show we put on in here ever year.

While the hunt is popular as ever - everyone is more spread out on multiple forums and the majority of coolers communicate via facebook or text these days.

I actually like it a little better in here with less traffic. Makes it easier to keep up with the posts and everyone here has some serious noodling skills. Plus the $10 keeps out all the trolls.

Are the clues posted up someplace?

I know they are on twincities.com, but I was wondering if they are in any other place yet.

Looking for a clean copy that I can use to plan what I'm brining to the pot luck, and who knows...I might be inspired to poetry this year.

I agree with you whole heartedly with a BUT....

Yes it was getting old when we had a few years of mild winters where the standard seemed to be - big park/in the woods. BUT it is kind of necessary in order to make the hunt last. I've been disappointed when there are years with lots of snow (like last year) where they could've taken the opportunity to put it in a small/medium sized park without any woods - Conway, Newell, Merriam, College, Prosperity, or any of the larger rec centers.

I just like the hunt to last at least through the first weekend as that is when I (and most people) get the first opportunity to go out with family and friends to look for it. I just don't want the rule to be "It will always be found by someone who takes tons of time off work to look for it" Bad hides (and by that I mean the actual hiding spot - not the clues or park choice) such as this will encourage more to take time off early in the hunt while those of us unwilling or unable to take that much vacation will be left in the dust.

I like that for the most part there still is the lottery aspect to the game - you only have to play for a chance to win. You don't have to be the most knowledgeable or the most dedicated (as much as I admire those people) to win.

LOL.... I will say that I was trying to word that without it sounding like I was complaining, whining, or sour grapes. There's plenty of that crap on the PP board. I'm truly happy for Mappy - couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

I like to think us intellectual types  do more critiquing than complaining. :goofy: :pbpt:

I was going to go out to hunt again today, but...

It's always fun huntin' and noodlin' with y'all!

I'm glad this forum is here, too! I like the format.

I was expecting a woods hunt too. But then when it's in the woods we all decry the fact that it's in the woods again.

Maybe this year they gave away some info about the actual puck location that might have shortened the hunt, ie the arch clue.

Looking at the clue explanations, I don't think them bringing in the Sucker Lake thing was helpful. I knew there would be a clue coming about a snail's pace!

Thanks! Well, that's the second time I've been within 20 feet or so of the med! :frown:

Trust me, my plans for the weekend have been radically altered. I'm usually very angry if the clues have not let me to the proper park by the First Saturday of the hunt.

Steve mapped every park by hand 15 years ago, counting the trees, and marking whether it was coniferous or deciduous. I'm surprised it took him this long!

Truth be told, he's probably the one person who has changed the hunt more than any other, I've heard rumors clue writers would use the Treasure Hunters guide to find things NOT in the book to use as clue.

that's not true. there are a few things that can fix stupid:

  • Sledgehammer

  • Baseball bat

  • 300 yards of saran wrap

  • cyanide

This hunt was one of the most fun for me.

It was great that we were there together and I got to witness him finding it.

we had been working that hillside for a couple of hours in the morning, took a break for lunch and went back to work right after lunch at moving more snow.

We really felt it was the right spot as everything lined up, we even had just discussed how it was really reminiscent of Tony Schmidt and how they hid it there in the weeds (Steve and I had cleared a hillside that year and we had the wrong hillside). We felt this was the same scenario but were hoping this was the right hillside.

And then boom, Steve finds it....! It was great.

What a great find for him, nobody can argue that he didn't deserve it.

Thank you for sharing pics on here as well! Question for you, was it supposed to be wedged in that tree but got moved? Considering not a ton of snow, was wondering how much digging deep you had to do around that tree or if the snow was packed down!
Fri, 01/23/2015 - 11:15 AM Permalink
Brassmonkey

The digging was quite easy actually. however the hill was facing north thus the snow was deeper than anywhere in the park.

I'm not sure if it was moved or not, i heard from the paper that it may have been wedged in the tree which would mean it was moved because the medallion was found where that pop can is.

We will know shortly when they release the hide video.

I love a hunt that goes through the weekend, but often it doesn't work out that way. And I hate when we're not sure of the park by the weekend. We sure have had that happen a time or ten.

It's always bittersweet when it ends, but I agree that if someone had to find it before the weekend, I'm thrilled it was Mappy.

We went out to SL to see the hiding spot. Talked to a guy who is "former CC, current PP employee" who was really nice. Some other people were there scoping it out too.

Yep, I was about 15-20 feet away from the med. :sheepish:
