First clue is out! not your typical first clue

By hack or by hex Vulcanus Rex

Has usurped the cool cold king

By trick or by tweet, it will be sweet

The breaks for some heÂ’ll bring

Leave your lair, the puckÂ’s out there

You wonÂ’t read fake news here

Veer off course, avoid the gorse

If you hope to find whatÂ’s dear.

Thanks! Interesting...

gorse = thorny evergreen shrub

course = golf course

I think it will either be a short hunt, due to the weather. Or a long hunt, due to them tossing it deep in the woods somewhere.

Heading out now. Time to dig.

I predict that because we had little snow cover earlier in the season, the CW would have selected a hiding place that would facilitate a longer hunt if conditions didn't 'improve'. If we get the 1-3" they're predicting for Tuesday/Wednesday, it might be a long one!

So I think "trick or tweet" is this.

Pretty standard 1st clue stuff.

First verse is a reference to the 2016 election.

Second verse is normal 1st clue rules stuff.

No golf courses.

Gorse is golf slang for any thick rough that is unplayable.

The only way to find the prize in gorse would be to uproot the

brush. i.e. it is not necessary to dig under anything or

destroy any vegetation.

Another meaning is that the puck is not on private property.

Picking a park can be a lark

East or west, choose your grounds

Look for clues, they're next to news

Just make sure to stay in bounds.

Must be close as it mostly makes sense. But next to news?

Maybe look for news, they are next to clues. Nah.
