A married man with a hairy back who's just sitting, waiting to assasinate Cluemaster eh? Hmmm, I might give you the married part, but I'm a bit skeptical on the rest. But whatever. If you want to meet for lunch, just tell me when,

Hmmm, its that crazy Scribe girl again. What was all that about an imposter last night? Something must have changed in the meantime because I don't see it.

not so fast there, scribe, i'd venture to say that usual for me is not the same as usual for the rest of the crew, either.

Howdee. I've given up on seeing Cluemaster and am back at my desk. So maybe we can have lunch on Friday? I'm thinking tomorrow will be a snowday-okay I'm hoping it will be a snowday.

When shall we quibble over where?

Now on a serious note, how many people are planning on going up to Fitger's? I'm going to be going up there and taking my singles club with me. We're looking at actually staying in Two Harbors at a place called Superior Shores. If we can get 10 people who are willing to pay $30 a night, we can rent a 3 bedroom manor with fireplace, hot tub, deck and grill, and all that stuff. Right now I have 7 from my club who would be willing to do that and might get a few more. Is there anyone here who might want to go in on this? The people in my club are all good people and I'm sure most people would feel comfortable around them, even if they're not single. They are all in the 25-40 age group though in case there's anyone who doesn't want to hang out with the "kids", hehe. Superior shores is about a half hour from Fitger's, but it is on the lake.

When I go there, I seem to usually end up at the Mexican food place, though being a food court we wouldn't really even have to get food from the same place. But we would need to figure out exactly where to meet as well as when. Have you seen my picture? Its on my Yahoo profile if you've made it into my club. Are you really a man? I got the impression before you were a woman, but either way it would help to know what I was looking for.

And Scribe, it doesn't matter if you interpreted the clues better than me, you still didn't get the Medallion. You still weren't even in the right part of the park. So there's still room for improvement.

Wed, 02/07/2001 - 11:40 AM Permalink
Scribe

Allison,I was in the right park before the park was spelled out AND the saturday before the med was found we were literally digging ten feet from where it was found! Room for improvement, sure! But at least I was in the right square block!LOLOLOLOL!

For the record you brought it up!

I didn't think you ever got off McMurray Field?

Wed, 02/07/2001 - 11:46 AM Permalink
Scribe

I got off McMurray field ASAP after the clue on saturday!LOLOL! I just didn't figure befor that they would mean a part of a street that didn't exist anymore!

Wed, 02/07/2001 - 11:48 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

You know, I think this year's clues are a very important clue to who the cluewriter is. Now standing on the spot where the medallion was hidden, who would think to use as clues things that weren't there anymore? I mean if I went to Battle Creek to find a spot to hide the medallion, not being real familiar with that park, I would use as clues only the things that I knew were there. In order to use things that aren't there anymore (four of them no less!) we're talking about someone who grew up there and is old enough to remember them. Now who on the PP staff could that be?

Do you mean to tell me you are actually a hare? That is the only thing I saw at your site. I don't think I looked in "profile" however. Well, I know we don't have to get food from the same place, but I never like to do things that way. I am not a man. Can Scribe, being a fellow mom and all, mandate this meeting? I guess we could meet at Hallmark by the Snowbabies with the shovels in their hands.

Hehe, no I'm not a hare. If you go to the club, and click on a message that I wrote, you'll see my name at the top of the message. If you click on that, it will give you my profile. And you want Scribe to mandate the meeting? Do you mean chaperone? Or you're just asking Scribe to tell you to do it?

    nosnowflake

The latter. Maybe she could just assure me that you will not abduct me and throw me headfirst into a kettle of boiling oil at the popcorn booth-or something like that.

Jim Walsh? I don't think so-he's too busy clubbing.

Donna Eriickson? She's from the other side of the river. Plus, she's too busy making things out of egg cartons.

I'd say Terry Valentine or green probably know me better than Scribe. But if it makes you feel better, I don't even like popcorn, hehe. You can also check out my singles club at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/singleandboredinmn since those people have spent a lot of time with me.

If it is one of those columnists, this is what I think I know. They've been writing since 1995, and presumably worked for the paper for at least a few years before that in order to be trusted with the task. So we're talking about someone who grew up in St. Paul, probably near Como, is likely to be at least 40 but I would guess less than 50 since I've heard a few rumors of them having a teenage kid. Someone who's a skilled writer, and has been with the paper for at least 10 years. Does that fit anyone?

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 12:34 PM Permalink
    nosnowflake

I think I'll be okay in the food court. Maybe you are the one who should be concerned (considering my reputation as a gun wielding bandicoot). Its just not true.

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 12:39 PM Permalink
    nosnowflake

Oooh-I hope its not that Rick Skeflink (or whatever) guy. Why do you know they have a teenager? Does the teenager know?

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 12:41 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

Well, you know those stories you hear? "My cousin knows a guy who says..." Its just that more than one has said the writer has a teenage kid. Not conclusive evidence by a long shot, but plausible.

And I'm not worried about your sniper rifle. Thye're not as effective at close range.

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 12:46 PM Permalink
    nosnowflake

It just seems like if the kid knew, he surely blow his parent's cover, just to get a little attention. Plus, I'm sure they just don't understand or appreciate all of the implications to the whole deal.

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 12:52 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

Supposedly the kid does know, and if the stories are true, maybe they did blow the cover, a little bit anyway, or else there wouldn't be "a story". I'm going to go run and get a bit of food. Back in a little bit.

Do you have a cafeteria at your place?

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 1:00 PM Permalink
    New Daddy

My guess is that it is Laura Billings. I think the writer is a female from this years clues. I thought a younger person could also be interested in what used to be there...

Nice to see so many of you at the rehash.. sorry I missed you Green. It was so exciting to see Kathi reenact finding the medallon. I hope I can do as good a job next year.

To all cooler crew who were disapointed they didn't find it this year, a warning, I will find it next year at Phalen, Hidden in a sweetheart candy box... So don't be to disapointed next year..

    Allison Wonderland

Yes we do have a cafetreria, and not a bad one either. I had a big breakfast there today so I just got some chili for lunch.

As for Laura Billings, I don't know. I think she's only worked for the paper a couple of years and I think the same person has written the clues since 95. Honestly, I think its more likely to be an editor. Someone who has a high place in the paper and can be trusted and whose picture doesn't appear every week. A columnist walking through a park might be recognized and raise suspicion.

I'm back in Minnesota and very happy to be back in this country. United States is a great place to live!! Still sad I missed the hunt. Como is my favorite place, too, for hunting the medallion. It's a great park. I've read through the posts, up until the medallion was found. It was very interesting reading, especially knowing the ending while I was reading all of your comments. This board must be interesting to the clue writer. Kitty was the first to mention Como Human 24 was the first to mention the carousel. Congrats you two! I'll be out there next year. Does anybody have an extra Winter Carnival button that they'd like to part with? Also, what's the deal with a film crew? There was a film crew? For the news? This sounds interesting.

"So we're talking about someone who grew up in St. Paul, probably near Como"

Anyone with Steve's book could have written the clues this year.

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 1:20 PM Permalink
    Allison Wonderland

Forgot about Steve's book. Does it refer to all those things? Where the tracks were, where the bridge was, where Beulah ran, and where the pony rides were? If so, that means they either grew up in Como or they are basing the clues off of Steve's book. The latter seems a bit odd, but maybe.

Hi Allie! Sorry I didn't get to see you this year. (FYI nosnowflake, Allie met me alone a few times when we were going to do a hunt together and lived to tell about it!) Did you follow the hunt at all? Or were you too busy packing?

And the film crew was from a small movie company based in NY. They were/are making a documentary about the treasure hunt.

    Wed, 02/07/2001 - 1:30 PM Permalink
    AllieGo

Hi Allison. I followed until the 6th clue, and then we left. It was a killer. My thoughts were on the carousel and the paddleford. Everytime a Como thought crept in, I threw it out, thinking the medallion hadn't been there that long ago.
