2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Mornin' all!

Just read the rules and realized the total prize is worth $11,200 this year.

$1,200 in Cub groceries, $2,500 cash for finding it, $2,500 for having the clues and $5,000 from Ma Press.

Also, Jake and Allison were both correct on Absolute Zero. Absolute Zero is -459 F & -273 C.

http://www.pa.msu.edu/~sciencet/ask_st/012992.html

What's interesting is that there is no place in the universe where it is absolute zero. I always believed it was absolute zero in space but, it is not.

Goodmorning - eyes half open, still in my robe and slippies-I cannot believe I am up so late thismorning. I woke up to hear my 10 year old watching Bugs Bunny say he needed to get his cigarette lighter! no kidding. I had to tell her that this cartoon came out when they did not know better. FYI-I do not smoke (husband does but not around the kids).

ok-I keep missin' Jake on here.

E&H- I love the idea of a new park.

Marley Queen-I love the idea that Harriet and Como may be entwined in the clues somehow.

LL - my family tree goes back to Hinckley-they were in the Great Hinckley Fire. And that Cubed Gem thing is COOL-that would be a "princess cut" -my wedding ring is that way.

I also love the Highland Park idea-they may mean stay away from Como (golf course) but refer to Highland.

Do we bring food to the Pre-Bash????

Nope, Me2, no pot-luck for The Pre-Dig Gig since ittiz at McGovern's. The Re-Hash Bash, now that's pot luck. We'll post more on that later.

Ian, HOPEFULLY, will bring his Sloppy Joe Medallions... He's not missed a year yet and he makes them himself.

I'll prolly bring corn-on-the-cob. Maybee some Devil's Den Eags... Maybee some o'my chile/cheese dip...

We are not allowed to have potatoe salad... LOL!!!

Sat, 01/19/2002 - 10:29 AM Permalink
me2

that IS techniqually our first clue! not at como zoo, golf course, or Harriet. so I wonder if they will refer to an island like area.

me2

In the late 19th century (1800's) eastern european and Russian Jews made there first home on the west side and then moved to the Highland Park area. So if there is any reference to Russia or Europe / Cubed Gems that puts it in Highland and Edgecumbe runs through Highland Park near the golf course----SOLVED. hehehe

Me2,Thats interesting since the west end and west side are now considered the mexican settling point..

ok-just looked in the St Paul Parks Guide #2-- what a co-ink-i-dink --

look at Eileen Weida park! first of all in the book-the first park above it is Edgcumbe hahahahaha

Then it says that it is located IN "railroad ISLAND". (hot Harriet)

near SWEDE HOLLOW! (we just talked yesterday about it)

Views of the Capitol (hence 9-11 US flag, government-good year to be patriotic)

Weida-Weird eh?

Highland Park.....Mostly Catholics or Jewish!:) I worked on Snelling and Randolph for eight years...I'm an Irish/German Catholic 1/2 of my clientele was Hasidic Jewish...really wonderful folks! Oh and the food during the holy days! YUMMY!

"Weida-Weird eh?"

That would be a good clue to that park!

I grew up there too-Wellesley near Hamline---kids go to Randolph now I went to Randolph my aunts and uncle & mom too. Family tradition just like the Medallion Hunt. I also grew up in Como Park as a teen.

Me2,Nother one of my stompin grounds in high school! I actually dated a korean boy from the west side but all his freinds were mexican...we were a strange group!LOL! WE liked to hang out on the old green stairs over the caves and do goofy dangerous stuff!

Parque Castillo is a little park on the mexican fringe...lots of work was done to it bout four years ago.A group of girl scouts and myself designed a native garden there.
