2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

leelabell

DM - we will still be there

Jim - clue explanations are on the website - we think the rehash will be this sunday, but don't know for sure.

I wouldn't say the clues were easy. They were actually quite difficult to interpret because we're so accustomed to dissecting them and placing great emphasis on each word. In general, each clue had two meaningful lines mixed in and around two lines of CRAP that threw us off. The clue writer obviously did not employ the same strategy and include the same level of complexity within each clue that preceding writers had. Such a drastic change in writing style was virtually impossible to anticipate and tough to adapt to.

I cannot believe that there were no street references until Clue #11 ! And Clue #10 is the only one that is even remotely clever... I don't want another medallion hunt this year. PP had months to come up with this set of clues. Can you imagine how much worse the clues would be if hastily written ?

OK we have an idea, those medalling kids and I. I think we should all e-mail the PP and ask for another hunt, less reward money of coarse. They did it before WAY back in the 50's. Atleast it would be something. I expect atleat a full week of joy every year.

Final Teaching #infinity:

If you know where it is, go there. If you were treking on it, I feel bad for you. Now that I realized I was the one who was treking on it, I feel like such a dumbass!

Jan, after the medallion was found at Wakefield Park, Mplwd said they would never have it in their city again because people destroyed the park. If the clue specifies St Paul, it usually rules out the suburbs. If it says, Ramsey Cty in the clues, that's when we think outside the city.

Naaaahhhh...I'll pace myself. See you down there. I'm off.

Jan...I don't know the particulars, but there has been trouble in the past in Maplewood (property damage I believe), and the city of Maplewood will not allow it to be hidden there.

We should get some things done so we can hook up w-ya tonight.

Later coolers!

seems to me that the clue writer could throw everyone off from the start just by mentioning Ramsey County, then hiding it in Rice Park. We would be stumpped for weeks, all looking in Maplewood, roseville.

Scribe - I think we'll be there tonight.

Sounds good if the building is open on Sunday. Unless anyone has a good reason not to do the rehash this Sunday, let's go for it. It makes sense being the weather will be good and all that.
