2002 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

Yes, the medallion has been found, but there's still lots to talk about. Feel the need for more than virtual discussion? Then join the Re-Hash Bash, Sunday, Jan. 27, at noon at Merriam Park in St. Paul.

Hi everyone -- oh how heartbreaking that it's over!

I don't care that I didn't find it. I just wish it could have lasted through the weekend.

Thanks Terry. I will get more pics up in the next days/week.

I have to go figure out what Trent should shoot while he's still out there. I'm assuming the snow sculptures and ice sculptures are melting...

I'm assuming the snow sculptures and ice sculptures are melting...

Driving by Rice Park last night on the way to get the clue, they had some really cool ice sculptures out there so, he might get lucky.

I just saw the winner on the news they said they basically tripped over it....ha ha he kicked a piece of paper picked it up and voila

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:26 PM Permalink
Terry

They are melting about as fast as they can carve them. This weather is unbelievable. Who woulda thought?

Good thing there wasn't an ice palace this year. They would have never been able to pull it off.

Many of the carnival events are being cancelled or changed because of this weather.

I'm glad I got to see a lot of the crazier winter events like car racing on ice last year then.

Well I'll see you all later. Maybe next year...

Ever so quickly...he is going to shoot Lady Liberty...A 20 foot tall Statue of Liberty...made of ICE!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:29 PM Permalink
Terry

They just mentioned on the news that they are going to rope off the ice sculpture area so that as the sculptures fall apart folks don't get hurt.

Smart Move...I'll be surprised if there is anything left come parade time tomorrow!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:31 PM Permalink
Terry

That's right! The Grande Parade is tomorrow!

I haven't even thought about attending that in years as hunting has been a first priority.

Mac-Grove Man

The finders will be in the parade as well!!!

well if you ask me if you find the medallion you shoud still be entitled to something so my sugestions would be a years supply of WHITE CASTLES & 13 DOLLARS AND 75 CENTS THATHATS THE PERSPPERSOND GET . its ok fo.o.hem to get a little something they should also be given a really nice shirskskirtsays HEY HEHE MIMMY that turnturturnmedallion and all i goI waI a yer of bad gass.......... the writer had no intention of this being a hard hunt how could hid it in a spot like that with the lack of snow and expect it not to be found early unfortunatley i was in the wrong park and my still fits better to the clues we were given..its time to sit out the next couple of hunts.............

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:32 PM Permalink
Terry

I've made some commitments for tomorrow being we weren't going to be hunting. Is that parade still televised? Maybe I can catch it on the tube.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:35 PM Permalink
Mac-Grove Man

Always has been...not sure on tomorrow...nothing in the TV listings...maybe cable access!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:37 PM Permalink
Mac-Grove Man

Howzabout some chicken wings...or chili...or BBQ... or...

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:37 PM Permalink
Terry

Anything you want!

Some folks bring crockpots with stuff....coffee would always be welcomed...Ian will bring sloppy joe medallions - I'm assuming anyways as he always does. I'm bringing a chicken, pasta, salad.

The only thing I would advise against is 24 lbs of potato salad!!!!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:38 PM Permalink
Mac-Grove Man

We should be able to get elec. I'll bring a power strip and extension cord

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:38 PM Permalink
Terry

Fruit, veggies, salads, sandwiches, chips, hot chocolate, dessert, whatever!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:39 PM Permalink
Terry

Electricity has been confirmed! It's sooo nice that there will be an open building and tables.

Thanks in advance to the staff at Marry'em Park!

Should I still bring the accessories???

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:41 PM Permalink
KOP

iam going to bring big bowl of tuna salad.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:47 PM Permalink
Terry

The accessories? You mean the cords and what not? It's better to have them than not.

Like a boy scout...always be prepared!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:47 PM Permalink
KOP

and some paper bowls

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:48 PM Permalink
l and a mommy

hmmmmm maybe I will bring a fruit salad or something like that....

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:50 PM Permalink

If anyone has nametags, that would be cooler too!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:51 PM Permalink

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:52 PM Permalink

how many people come each year?

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:53 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

Damn....this sucks, ninjas....i know me and shaggs said the 6th would be the last clue...but thats cause we thought WE were actually gonna get it this year...heh.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:54 PM Permalink
Terry

Last year close to 100 came - this year I suspect there will me many more. Some folks come and go - but most stay for the duration as they are able.

I really think lawn chairs will be appropriate. We can start working on our summer tans! The weather is going to be unseasonably warm!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:56 PM Permalink

I am seriously really upset about this being found! I have been sitting here for nearly 2 hours reading every post since 11 this morning. Just to read people's reactions when it was found. How depressing!!! I don't want to wait a whole year! And even then I am going to be in Wisconsin for college... aggghhhh!

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:58 PM Permalink
Terry

But remember - everyone will bring something to share so don't worry about feeding 100 folks with whatever you bring.

Ask green - 24 lbs of potato salad is overkill!

Sometimes there are grills too if you want to grill something...but I don't know yet if anyone has one to bring with.

Fri, 01/25/2002 - 5:58 PM Permalink
KOP

understand.

Going to college is a good thing cold toes. You'll earn much more than $10,000 with a degree.

Yeah...but its not as fun...and it lasts WAY longer.

I know, I am just saying I am going to miss it... this was my last year of being able to get totally into it, and it ended before I got to look! I was going to go to the pp with my mom, her friend and my friend tonight and we were going to scope everything out! I just wish it had been a better hunt. I had all sorts of wild ideas about the clues, which would have been more interesting than what they actually meant. Its just upsetting that everything was but so blatantly and it was just up to which park fit them BEST, not which one it was for sure.
