So much of what he did that is objectionable was 40 years ago, in a time and place so different from today's political climate. Not to excuse it, but let people be judged on their recent record.
Colombian activists say Arnold Schwarzenegger's latest action movie about a firefighter's efforts to avenge the terrorist killing of his wife and son is insulting and discriminatory against Colombians, reports The Associated Press.
Protesters appearing at a preview of the movie Collateral Damage said the movie cements stereotypes that Colombians are drug traffickers and guerillas instead of hardworking, educated people.
"It is discriminatory against Colombians," said Brian Jordan, a Franciscan priest. "The sins of the few should not be inflicted on the rest," he said, referring to the guerillas in Colombia's civil war.
Maybe they shouldn't show anymore WWII documentaries about Nazis because "the sins of the few should not be inflicted on the rest."
A Kentucky librarian who claims she was fired from her job at a public library for refusing to remove a cross necklace has sued the county claiming that her free speech rights were violated, reports The Washington Times.
When she was hired in August 1998 to work at the front desk in the Logan County Public Library, Kimberly Draper was aware of a dress code that forbids "clothing depicting religious, political, or potentially offensive decoration" but said she was assured that her cross was acceptable.
But according to the lawsuit, in April of last year Draper was ordered by an assistant library director to remove the necklace. She refused, and was eventually told to go home and to dress "appropriately" if she expected to work there anymore.
Libraries, one county official said, don't allow employees to wear religious medals because they are in direct contact with members of the public, who represent a broad spectrum of religious faiths and might be offended by the display.
The lawsuit seeks to have the library dress code declared "overly broad, unconstitutional and illegal."
Terror expert Steven Emerson of the Investigative Project in Washington has been blackballed by taxpayer-financed National Public Radio because Islamic groups in the United States accused him of being an "Islamaphobe" before Sept. 11, writes columnist Jeff Jacoby of The Boston Globe.
NPR blacklisted Emerson in 1998 under pressure by Muslim extremists that labeled him a bigot for suggesting that radical Islamic terrorism is a threat to the United States. NPR officials vowed to keep Emerson off the air after complaints from the American Arab Action Network.
The network denies that it blacklists anyone and said more than three years ago that Emerson would be welcome back, but he has yet to appear even since 9/11.
Emerson himself says NPR has consistently suppressed news stories about militant Islamic groups in the United States. "It has allowed radical Muslim 'leaders' to have their say while ignoring the same leaders' statements and activities in support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Jihad," he said.
Jethro, where is your compassion? We are in hard times and the unemployment rate is soaring.....even for those poor poor protesters! They have to find something to protest about.....if they don't their unemployment may be cut off or worse the leach of a interest group they are with may stop applying for more government funding.
Those poor poor Columbians! What does Arnold have against Juan Valdez anywho?
Thus, Scalia was right about church doctrine, and right about the law. No judge morally opposed to the death penalty should sit in a capital murder case. To do so would be an act of moral arrogance and judicial nullification of democratic rule.
Regarding that librarian that was fired for wearing a cross:
I wonder if any other emloyees were wearing the egyptian sign of fertlity or say a specific stone that represents their "power"? These are also "religious" sybols or at least symbols of a belief system. How are we to respect other beliefs if we constantly persecute one? If your not a Christian it is fine with me! I don't knock on your door shoving the Bible down your throat nor do I tell you what sort of jewelry to wear, and yet I am still a Christian and simply expect the same rights of other Americans!
I'm usually not in favor of lawsuits but I hope this woman has a good attorney and she takes that damn library to the cleaners!
There are big differences in Islamic beliefs that Muslims have been warring over for thousands of years! The term "Islamist" is usually regarded by most Muslims as extemists and very dangerous sects of their faith. These "Islamists" are evil pure and simple.
A prime example of this in Christainity is the EXTREME pro-life movement. I am pro-life but I will stand against ANY idiot that would take a life of a doctor or bomb a clinic! These are also dangerous extremists just the same as the "Islamists"
Just as I would like to see a more vocal outrage of Muslims against Islamists I would also like to see the same outrage in true Christians against the terrorrists within our faith!
But I wonder if this guy would be banned from MPR if he said that about Christians?
A prime example of this in Christainity is the EXTREME pro-life movement. I am pro-life but I will stand against ANY idiot that would take a life of a doctor or bomb a clinic! These are also dangerous extremists just the same as the "Islamists"
There is the argument that someone that kills an abortionist is doing so in the defense of others. No such argument exists for the WTC bombings. Hence they are not quitethe same.
The Islamists believe that they are killing in defense of others also......
Both of these terrorists groups are hypocrits! I am pro-life.....that means I respect life and want to PRESERVE life in and outside the womb. The abortion terrorists are not pro-life at all! If they are willing to kill to prevent killing? HMMMMMMMMM where have I heard that argument before?
The Islamists believe that they are killing in defense of others also......
How so? How does running a plane into a skyscrapper defending others? If they ran a plane into a US army base in Saudi Arabia they may have a better argument but not much.
I hope this woman has a good attorney and she takes that damn library to the cleaners!
But, then the public library will have to pay her millions (much of which will go to the attorney in costs and fees). Because it's a public library, the government will be stuck with the bill, and our taxes will increase.
While I believe that she should have been able to wear the cross, sometimes the legal means for righting a wrong doesn't sit well.
ares, it's about a library somewhere that has an exhibit supposedly about domestic abuse or something, and one of the "works of art" is a bunch of plastic penises hanging from a clothesline. This same library refused to hang an American flag over its door because it might offend someone.
Scribe, I e-mailed those I had addresses for, too. One was Bill Fold, who knows where we are but says he probably won't post here because of something bad somebody did to him in the last couple of weeks. I missed it because our 'puter was down for a while.
Thanks Muskwa and don't worry about Fold......he'll be back,he always is and if he'd just stay over the nastiness instead of stooping to that level he would never have to worry about it!
Back a couple weeks ago, just after it happened, I posted on the old PPWC that the "mistaken" U.S. raid in Afghanistan that's now the center of a firestorm of controversy...was a huge and bloody botch job.
At the time, Washington was swearing up and down that no "error" had taken place.
One of my regular detractors over at the Pioneer Planet riduculed me as if I were Howdy Freddy Chucklehead Doody.

I saw on the news tonight that the prime suspects in the WI funeral home murders is a group called "The Rest Of Jesus" who have been sending terroristic letters to funeral homes @ WI, because they don't agree with the practice of Embalming. I agree with Scribe that terrorism is terrorism. Any person or group that intentionally harms or kills others on the premiss that their beliefs are the only "Right" set of beliefs, in my book, are terrorists; the only difference I see is the # of people affected.
Bill-Fold,I didn't mean to make a big deal out of it and I'm really not sure what happened with those pictures only what was told to me as I never saw them.
The point I was trying to make is that in this long running game some of you have played that no one is perfectly innocent.
I did bait to to come here but only because I really do miss reading your posts and I do consider you very much part of the crew.
Please accept my apologies for offending you.
There are some features here that may make you more comfortable such as the ignore button. Also anything offensive or over-the-line will be deleted immediately.

You,of course, are free to choose for yourself but please know that you would be sadly missed.
Euphemisms make it easier for scientists, in the name of medical research, to justify dissecting unborn babies.
And, of course, that's precisely what they're doing when they poke and slice at embryos to extract stem cells. Sadly, it seems that babies do not receive the benefit of human rights until they leave that warm womb and commit to a cold, dangerous existence in America.
And just why do you support that Dal?:)
