I'm not disputing you, Bud. It just seems odd. But maybe they do it as kind of test-marketing.
I do know that some movies, at least in the past, were altered a bit for Europe (steamier sex scenes). And some movies that went nowhere here were very popular over there.
We finally saw Lord of the Rings last night. Neither of us has ever read Tolkein. It's a nice fantasy film, beautifully done and great special effects, but too long. About the time they got to the White Lady, we were beginning to wonder if there was any point to each new encounter.
Not 100% needed, but it provides some background. The Hobbit basically introduces Bilbo, Gandalf, the Ring, Sauron, and Middle Earth in general. However, the LOTR series is a seperate story.
I was pleased to see John Rhys-Davies as the dwarf, even though the makeup was so good it made it impossible to recognize him. He was my favorite character in Shogun.
We went Saturday night, to downtown Fort Worth, to the 10:15 show, and two separate couples brought their BABIES to the theater! I couldn't believe it.
Ug. I hate when people bring babies to the theater. That's why the wife and I have seen about 6 movies since our kids were born 2 1/2 years ago, if we don't have a sitter, we wait for video!
One theater in town used to have a "crying room" in the back, so parents could take fussy babies there and still watch the movie through a window, but everybody else didn't have to listen to the kid. However, the crying rooms went away when they remodeled and installed stadium seating.
That's too bad. I know it's tough to get away when you have kids, and sitters can be costly. But at least these folks took the kids out of the theater when the babies fussed. I just can't imagine bringing infants to a theater, and that late at night too.
Good movie on the pros and cons of racing stardom. Stars Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, and the beautiful blonde from the Planet of the Apes movie.
Well me and the family watched a classic last night, E.T. My daughter loved it. We also watched The Musketeer and Hardball. Hardball was a really good movie.
I just watched Dogma lastnight, Nads. It sucked compared to all the others.
I've got to chime in here and say I emphatically disagree. Dogma is awesome. (I watched it last night too :) Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was alright, but it just wasn't as as substantial as Dogma. It was more like Mallrats -- a madcap comedy.
I watched Mallrats before that and that's funnier than Dogma.
Maybe...but that's 100% of the objective of Mallrats . Dogma 's trying to do a lot more than that, and it's not focused as much on making you laugh out loud the whole way through.
Mallrats is funnier than the Indiana Jones movies too, but...so? It doesn't really mean much.
My favorite line from the movie is after he tells Minnie Driver's father he's a professional killer. Father doesn't bat an eye and says "It's a growth industry."
thanks, jt. i dunno about anyone else, but i've been waiting for that movie since memorial day of '99. i'm still deciding whether or not i want to get in line on th 13th or 14th for tickets.

Yup, that worked!
American movies usually start in Europe? I didn't know that.

Yes, I caught it, Bud -- funny!!!!! Who's singing?

Go back and read the book(s) now Muskwa. This first movie is just laying the groundwork...
We're thinking we should do that. Is it necessary to read The Hobbit first?

Thanks, Frosti.

I like his line, "Nobody tosses dwarves!"

Yep, that one made me chuckle as well. I just saw the movie again yesterday.

Yeah, after 10:30 seems pretty late to be out. Maybe they thought the kid would sleep through the whole movie if it was that late.
I guess, but jeez, that late, downtown, on a Saturday night? Of course, Fort Worth is quite a safe city. Still, babies should be home in bed then.
No accounting for parenting styles.

Mission Impossible and, and, and........ ; )
My brother and I used to say that drowning in beer would be like heaven. Now, he's not here, I've got two soakers. This isn't heaven, this sucks.

And reading Matrix 2 Previews.....
I haven't seen it yet, but better than Dogma? That movie was hilarious.

Mallrats is one that I didn't think was all that great.
Finally saw Grosse Pointe Blank this weekend. Talk about dry humor!

I loved GPB! If nothing else the soundtracks are awesome.

It's been a long time since I've seen it. I can't remember the details really. I just remember I liked it.
We finally got around to renting Shrek. It was hard to get into at first but Eddie Murphy's donkey kept us watching. I'm looking forward to the sequel.
It's got drama, comedy, action, spirit, and values all brought together in one great movie.

Here's a description on it.....
Wow, Bud -- Russell Crowe and Burt Reynolds? What year was it made?
I saw that movie too. It was OK, I'd forgotten that Burt was in it. If you don't like hockey, I wouldn't bother.
Check out the latest Star Wars trailer (#4). It's the best so far.
Don't bother if you have a slow connection. It's too annoying.

Huh! I guess they don't allow me to link directly.
