Softball.... not a bad thought. Highland has several fields across from one of the better sledding locations.

But wasn't it very close to a backstop when it was at Como in 97? That doesn't mean it couldn't be near a baseball/softball field again, but I'm suspicious of that.

What is the location at Como of the 150 ft slide?

Just finished going through the board..lots of posts. Think I'll pick a few names to jump to...might help make it faster. Dave's thinking the same way I am...It's looking like Como, but it was only there 2 years ago. Is there actually a sliding hill at Highland? There's no place to park there.

the sliding hills at Highland are near the water towers and on the golf course.

There was no place to park at Highland when it was there last time either....but they still hid it there. I think it is at Como.. The person who does this treasure hunt knows we would question Como so close togather.... HUMMM .... It would throw us all off... Great place to hide it! Last time it was at Como their were alot of Carnival activities going on then also....

I'm loathe to cast my thoughts this early in the game, but as the hunt approached my every fiber led me to believe that it would be at Phalen this year. I can just barely fit the golf course and sledding clues into this park, but it stays on my mind because of its ability to hold the extra diggers looking for the larger-than-usual bounty and, man, is it ever way overdue. Aside from the quick hunt of '95, East Siders have had to trek across town (or at least downtown) for every hunt since '83. It's their turn to walk to the dig site. Two pennies.

Does anyone think maybe it could be at Phalen Park?

Hey everyone:

For what it's worth ($.02), it seems they have only made references to stay away from golf courses, etc. when the Med is actually at a park with a golf course, such as Como 2 years ago. How likely is it that they could return to Como again? Has is been done before?

Ian: I've already e-mailed Ronald Young about the button site. We'll see what he's willing to do with us at coolercrew.com.

Does anyone think it could be in Keller Park or not just looking for some info.

Out of curiosity, what about Hidden Falls Park? It was hidden

there back in 1993. Part of the clue said follow this advice and

you won't be caught. Well, in the game of hide and go seek,

if you are not caught or found, then you are hidden that is

why it could be at Hidden Falls Park

Keller Park is part of Maplewood. Maplewood will not let them hide it there because of damaged property in the past.

It's at Como, away from the Giant Snow Slide. I do not know where the snow slide is. Maybe in the area where the medallion was 2 yrs ago?

NOTE: I have gained access to a reliable source via the St. Paul Pioneer Press!!!! He has informed me that the Medallion is not located at Como, Phalen, nor Highland parks. This individual has been reliable in the past, so I insist everyone considers this before they begin their search.

The Giant Snow Slide at Como is in the vicinity of where the medallion was found in 97. There is a map of Como with the locations of the various winter carnival activities on the winter carnival web page.

It's clearly not at Keller - 1st clue says St. Paul Park.....

Also reviewed last 30 years clues - only golf course references are when the puck was hidden at a park with a GC - clearly Phalen, Highland or Como with my likelihood estimate (and my reputation as an actuary on the line) being:

Highland: 65%

Phalen: 30%

Como:5%

These estimates based on reasoning in my earlier post #1265....

Whadda ya think???

Well folks, by the the recent clues I would say Phalen park would be the best bet at this point regardless of what the reliable source guy says. What do ya think?

Mon, 01/25/1999 - 2:11 PM Permalink
MJ

I don't believe in reliable sources. They're very unreliable. Besides there are only 2 people at PP that know anything about it. One knows the clues, the 2nd is a backup to the clue location in case something happens to person #1. Therefore, only 1 actually knows the clues.

Cell battery just fine Ian. Actually have it plugged-in, in my van so we have no dead battery worries. I'm jumping out of my Sorels!!!!

Hi Mechelle - welcome!!!!

Howdy Ian, good to hear from you and hope that you made at least one CBY excursion......

I'll be teaching a session at Paul Allen's (KFAN) seminar twice in Feb, March and April to help prepare for the live meet - let me know if you want to check it out.....

Can't wait for more clues to be able to adjust those likelihood estimators up higher!....

I believe it's at Phalen this year and I say this with some (albeit stretched) reasoning. First of all, it hasn't been there in a while, so it wins just my plain ol' gut reaction. But also consider this: The first line of the second part of Clue #1 says, "A park is the spot, but a golf course is not." I believe this indicates a park with an associated golf course, yet there is some obvious reason to eliminate the golf course as a possibility. Phalen's golf course is in Maplewood, not St. Paul, so that fits. Then line two says, "So please don't disturb a fairway or green." Is this merely a poetic plea not to destroy a golf course they've already told us to avoid, or a cleverly worded (and hidden) clue. The fact is that there is a Fairway, Maryland and a Green, Idaho. Perhaps not coincidentally, the St. Paul section of Phalen Park is bordered on the north and south by Idaho and Maryland Avenues. Perhaps not "disturbing" them implies not crossing them and limiting your search between those two streets. Maybe?
