It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Me and the Medallion Mobile
ok, me and my friend figure hidden falls can stretch the clues better than any other park. i still like the word "scene" and who has more scenic overlooks then hidden falls. and theirs alot more too. but im busy and will post em later.
I have a question about Phalen if anyone is more familiar with it than I. Are the sliding hills (reportedly near 61 according to an earlier post) on the Maplewood side or St. Paul side? If they're on the Maplewood side, then I think you can make another argument for Phalen that goes like this: Clue #1 Part 1 "Look only on public ground in St. Paul." i.e. "Stay out of Maplewood!" Clue #1, Part 2 says there is a golf course, but don't go there. i.e. "Stay out of Maplewood!" (where the golf course is). Clue #2 implies a place for sledding, but again says not to look there. If this sledding area is on the Maplewood side, again we can read into this clue, "Stay out of Maplewood!". I read earlier that Maplewood threatened to sue if they hid it there again. Could they be any clearer (within the restraint of using coded language) that we should stay out of Maplewood while we search Phalen?
In the past, even knowing almost exactly where the treasure is hidden, it typically takes 50 people combing a relatively small area for hours before someone comes across the medallion. To me, it seems the odds of someone finding it already are about as good as them hitting the lottery. Its not impossible, but certainly not likely. So I'll wait for an official announcement before I stop playing.
The only problem with Holly's thoughts is that if the medallion were found, then obviously they would know what day it was found. Anyone who then bought a button and registered it would have a postmark that was later than when the medallion was found. They would not get the bonus money, and I wonder just how the PP would view their holding onto it to do so.
Where is the ski jump at Battle? There is no rule that says there has to be a golf course on or near the park it is hidden in even though history might lead us to think so.
ok hidden falls. its due. flying down, well theirs airplane balls on the wires. theirs the falls. attraction, ford dam and plant. scenic over looks for scenes. nil means egg in french. and you hide eggs, so hidden falls. zooming down, well the water, or have youever driven down the big hill to it? its death if iced over. and its not going to be at phalen for they were almost sued (or atleast according to legend)
I'll have to research that Maryland and Idaho lead. If that is true looks like some solid evidence toward Phalen. Not to mention it is a huge park and for $10,000 smackers I wouldn't be suprised to see them extend the hunt. I don't think they will be specific this early though.
Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't the golf course technically part of Keller too? Still, I think its fits in with the idea that they're near, but not near enough for anyone to go trekking into Maplewood to look for the Medallion.
flying down hill can refur the hill you must drive down to reach hidden falls. also the river with the ford dam. maybe airplanes, and the airport is near by.
Yea, sure Holly. I'm sure it was Joe Medallion that found it too. That would make the 83rd time in the last two years that he found it. Get real.
Speaking of getting real....
The clues so far have been as vague as you would expect. No. 1 says it is in St. Paul, but not on a golf course. (Note: the correct park does not need to include a golf course, it merely preempts damaging searches.) The second clue indicates it is near but not in a skiing/sliding area.
Using these crumbs of fact, and extrapolating with the supercomputer that is my mind, it will come as no surprise to the cooler crew that I have fathomed the presence of the medallion at Newell Park in a 10 sq. yd. area just to the north of the tow rope area. My dog, the Cake Girl and I plan on uncovering it tonight and look forward to hosting the post-Hunt bash on 2/7.
I hope Green brings a little food this year; last year she came empty handed, and we had to scrape up a few bits of food for her. And the rest of us starved.
I think they gave us a lot of information in clue 1. a. It's in St. Paul. b. It's in a park. c. It's not on a golf course. This is more info then given in most clues. I don't think we can read any more into that clue.. Unless Green is a refrence to the queen of the water cooler. I like the action/sceen - grumpy old men idea. Could "popular outdoor attraction" refer to the winter carnival events at Como
hidden falls is a big park! not as big as others but big. south gate is closed. pay no attention to it. northgate is up open and running. excactly how much experiance do you people have at this?
"Flying downhill" could mean an airplane's descent, but that's not much of a thrill. It could also be something like hangliding, but I think you'd be hardpressed to tie that into anything. It seems to me that in the past, the first few clues give just a general idea of some things nearby and at best one specific clue. I'd be very surprised actually if downhill thrill was anything other than sledding/skiing.
Could flying downhill be an anagram for a street name or something else?? I think this may be a curve ball. I don't think they would give us sledding hill clues 2 years in a row unless it was to throw some people off.
Hey, Guys, I'm back. I think the overview of everything has been discussed again and again. We all agree to a park in St. Paul, near a golf course (but not on the golf course), some reference to a movie/film/theatre, sledding/skiing, and possibly airplanes fyling close by. Those are tremendous first 2 clues I've ever read from the past clues. Do you agree?
Step, don't take anything I say about Newell Park too seriously, it is an old (and Lame) joke.
Gee, last year my first post was #13 and this year it is 1434. The decaying reactions of my aging form!
I'd bet the prize will be in a park with sliding, but just as with the golf course clue, the paper is trying to prevent damage to a part of the park. Last year the sliding area was demolished at Cherokee in the final grasshopper frenzy. There must have been tons of bummed out kids.
The one thing about this year's clues that I find unusual, is instead of saying where the medallion is, they seem to be putting undue effort into saying where it is NOT. Does anyone have another explanation for this other than my theory that they want us to stay out of the Maplewood side of Phalen?
I think hidden falls is overdue also. Flying and the airport are a good connection. I think Flying is a key word here, and not related to sledding, I hope tonights clue sheds some light . I'll be out most of the day tom. looking.
Hidden Falls is locked at the opening by the Ford plant and the other opening has NO driving access only a walking path to that other part of the park. It was in that park in 1993
well im still not completly sold about with a golf course. why narrow it down to 3 parks right away? also, what about scenes, refering to scenic overlooks?

sorry everyone but the treasure has already been found the person is just wiating to buy a button
THIS NOT A JOKE AND IT WAS NOT FOUND AT PHALEN

Geez Hollywood, just when I eliminate Highland you make some very strong points.
what points about highland?

Allison--you still in here?
Where is the ski jump at Battle? There is no rule that says there has to be a golf course on or near the park it is hidden in even though history might lead us to think so.
You know every year people say that it has been found daily and I fail to see the humor in that. I'd bet my house that it hasn't been found yet.
Me too, Duff. Anyone who found the medallion only after two clues would be very suspect.
Duff--I agree

All the registration requires is that it is post marked no later that 1/28.
For updates on whether the medallion has been found, call (651) 228-5464.
Duff I ditto what Step said.
I'm still here Step, though I got knocked off the internet for a moment.

oh and action can be the river.
Allison--the sledding hiss IS in maplewood, but it is a part of Keller park, not phalen....
hill i mean....
what would the golf course reference have to do with hidden falls??
Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't the golf course technically part of Keller too? Still, I think its fits in with the idea that they're near, but not near enough for anyone to go trekking into Maplewood to look for the Medallion.
Step, read the 2nd part of post #1411.
Allison--I agree w/ you but Keller has it's own course...I think phalen is phalen...
I want to brainstorm and try to think of some ideas that steer clear of sledding and shiing...
what else could "flying downhill" mean????
Me and the Medallion Mobile
no golf course, cuz why narrow it down to 3 parks in clue #1? and also "green" is just to ryme with scene, for the numurious scenic overlooks
Me and the Medallion Mobile
flying down hill can refur the hill you must drive down to reach hidden falls. also the river with the ford dam. maybe airplanes, and the airport is near by.
Winger--is HF a small park or large??
there is heavy air traffic over highland, too...
Yea, sure Holly. I'm sure it was Joe Medallion that found it too. That would make the 83rd time in the last two years that he found it. Get real.

hey Pat--Welcome back
