"Cuddyer's an improved hitter, there's no question about that," manager Ron Gardenhire told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "We're getting near the end of spring training and we're going to be seeing mostly big league pitchers now. Let's see how it goes." It appears the Twins, however, may keep Cuddyer on deck with Triple-A Edmonton. "What I worry about is if we go with Michael and he struggles early, then what do we do? If we go with Buck (Buchanan) and it doesn't work out, then we can go right to Edmonton and get Michael," Gardenhire said.

"Things are going well," said Garciaparra. "I'm just glad to be out there. I'm more focused on the baseball aspect of the game rather than worrying about my health and whether I'm going to be ready, health-wise. I'm in a good frame of mind."
The first big step was playing in back-to-back games, which he did on March 16 and 17. The next was playing in three consecutive games (March 21, 22 and 23). Again, there were no problems. Then Sunday, for the first time since his last regular season game last Aug. 26, he played a full nine innings.
"It's fine and it's strong," said Garciaparra, who was 1-for-5 and scored a run against the Expos. "I feel I'm ready for [Opening Day]. Baseball's a tough game as it is. When your mind is elsewhere, it makes it that much more difficult. I haven't had that problem this spring."
Fans and observers may put a lot of stock into Garciaparra's impressive Spring Training numbers. But despite coming into Sunday's game with a .412 average and two homers in 12 games, the shortstop says the most important aspect of the spring can't be found in the stat sheet.
"With me, I don't really worry too much about stats in Spring Training," he said. "It's more about getting in baseball shape and in that regard, I feel ready. Everything has gone just as I hoped."
Something else has also become clear to Garciaparra this spring -- the importance of team chemistry. He says the much publicized changes in the Red Sox front office and in the clubhouse have had a positive impact.
"Things are looking good right now," Garciaparra said. "That's what Spring Training is all about, to see what everybody's role is and see where everyone fits in. We've had a lot of things going on, from the management to the change of ownership, changes from the top down. That said, the guys have always been great in Spring Training. The season kind of dictates how things play out, but I see things playing out very well with us. Everybody gets along, everybody is on the same page and everybody is working hard. It's just a matter of understanding your role. When you understand your role, it makes things easier."
I agree with you on that one Jethro. If they do strike again a mere 8 years after the last one which was horrid on baseball and the fans it could be the beginning of the end.
Personally I hope they don't but I hope the owners don't bend. Perghaps it's time for some real change, and not the change that the puke Selig is talking about. Baseball can't survive economically no matter how many stadiums we build. When you're paying a shitty right fielder hitting 180. 3 mill a year somethings gotta give. I say scrap them all and start over with new players and invoke a salary cap immediately. If the palyers do strike I think they're screwing themselves and the fans big time. And baseball will become a non-factor.
A great idea from Paul White a columnist with Baseball Weekly and a little bit easier than shutting down the all-star game by chaining ourselves to the gates until Fehr & Selig negotiate.

I've always hated the balloting and thought that it should be weighted by answering baseball questions but this looks like a great way to hit 'em. Think of Bud and the boys in Bud's hometown introducing the starting line-ups of the two teams they want to contract. The success of this will be to get our friends in other parts of the country to pick it up as well.

I like Interleague play. I always go to a couple games.
Atlanta is my adopted home town. Was there a couple weeks ago. We were living there during the '91 series. Went to Game 4 with my brother-in-law. We had field level seats. I was one of the only Twins fans in the place.
I am undecided about interleague play. I would like to see them re-do the leagues. It seems silly that Milwaukee isn't in our division considering geography and the natural rivalry. Didn't Milwaukee used to be in our division years ago ? I thought I heard that they once were.
Atlanta would a fun team to be a fan of for the last 10 years or so. Must have been quite a thrill to be there for game 4. I remember having to listen to it on armed forces radio. It sucked not being able to see it live.
How long ago was that ? I must admit I am not a huge baseball history guy or one of these people who can tell you what DiMaggio's average was in 56 or how many triples he hit facing left handers.
Seems to me to make perfect sense to have Milwaukee in our league or vica versa, then again, maybe that's why they aren't doing it, it makes sense.

The last two Twins - Angels series were a Classic Matchupfrom the outlook of this guy.
It would be good to get this site going again. With all their problems, the Twins are starting to look really solid.

milwaukee was in the al west before the split into 3 divisions per league.
