Discuss the 2005 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt here.

Leelabell- are you purposely trying to cause nightmares? It's working- and I'm not even sleeping. THAT IS the dude who hides in closets & under beds, and makes the weird noises in attics & basements. Do you show this to children? If so, do they start to cry? Do you hate all people in general, or only small children, and those adults who have attics, or basements? You ROCK cooler chick.
hmm.. seems like I was way off the whole hunt myself.. guess it was an off year, but still made a little progress in the getting involved aspect. I guess if nothing else I'll be out in the parks alot more next year.
super sweet time at the GW and RHB! so nice to talk to more folks n such! see you all around thru-out the year!!!
p.s. so glad mikey could make it to the RHB. jsut wouldn't have been the same lookin at that magical tree without you! nick and i cried i think! til next year!
p.s.s. next year...mikey, nick, and i...clue three bottle o peppermint and poof the magical medallion!
In an effort to continue the fun community and fellowship that we all experienced at the RHB, I'll be hosting a poker night at the bear cave on Saturday the 19th. I'm envisioning about a 20 buck-night if you're a horrible player; a nickel-dime-quarter kind of a thing.
First 8 people to RSVP to me either in e-mail (my e-mails posted at coolertimes) or egram gets a seat. All are welcome, for the most part.

Just watched a SNL skit called "merv the perv" ....reminded me of somebody...
who would you be thinking of my friend?
Â
sorry to miss the rehash - I am really a night person tho!! hard to break away from kids and wifey - need to get them involved in hunt more so they will want to come out for all the festivities!!
:(... If this years Rex thinks about it... he still has time to set up bar runs as "official" WC events. At least that way Crew 69 will have a chance to get out and see everyone. Of course the bars need to make "events" in order for the Vulcans to show up to them.
In 1916 was the first year of Vulcanus Rex I. Even though Rex was around since 1886. I'm guessing they started counting Kings in 1886 but started counting Rex in 1916?
The Saint Paul Winter Carnival was founded in 1886, and our first Fire King started that year. Colonel Delos A. Monfort was known as Fire King Coal. The first nine Fire King's battled alone without a Krewe against Boreas and his royal family.
Since 1886, approximately 380 people have officially worn the Vulcan Running Suit, representing the "HOT SIDE" of the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. Presently the Fire & Brimstone organization has around 225 former Fire King's and Krewe members active in the organization.
In 1940 E.R. Reiff was picked to be Vulcanus Rex VI, he chose a Krewe of six men to help him chase Boreas and his wintry ways out of town. He gave all six Krewe member names we still use today. In 1970 Joe Rogers, Vulcanus Rex XXXIII added a seventh member and another new name to the Krewe. We still use the same names today.
THE MEANING OF KREWE NAMES
The King of Fire.Vulcanus Rex is the TRUE KING of the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Vulcanus battles to end the cold of winter, and seeks to bring the warmth of summer back to the beautiful City of Saint Paul.
Baron Hot Sparkus Commander of the Lancer's Legion and the Stocker of Emotions. The "SPARK PLUG" of the Vulcan Krewe.
Grand Duke Fertilious Minister of Propaganda. The Propagator of Progency. This Krewe member usually has the most offspring.
Count of Ashes The Raiser of Sleeping Spirits. The "SWINGER" of the Vulcan Krewe.
Count Embrious Fire King's Chancellor of the Exchequer. The young and romantic one. Embrious is usually the youngest member of the Krewe.
Duke of Klinker Fire King's Aide de Camp and the Herder of the Flock. A Klinker in a fire is the longest burning ember, that just never wants to go out.
General Flameous An Army Commander, the Administrator of Fire. The Keeper of the Flame. The legend of Flameous: if the Flame dies, the Fire King dies -- and it will be winter forever.
Prince of Soot The Recorder of Past Memories. The "LADIES MAN." Sooty is usually the oldest member of the Krewe.
VULCAN ATTIRE
THE FIRE KING RUNNING SUIT, THE UNIFORM In the early Carnivals, when the Fire King ran alone, he wore typically kingly attire crown and all, with heavy emphasis on the color red in the rest of the costume. In 1916, Ron Stewart, Vulcanus Rex I, wore a warm blanket coat with a wide sash and a headpiece with devil-type horns on it. This attire continued through 1939.
Again, in 1940, Vulcanus Rex VI, E.R. Reiff, designed the basic running suit worn today. The horns were replaced by two feathers at the back of the head with a central fin running across the top of the head from front to back. In 1959 the feathers disappeared by order of Vulcanus Rex XXII, John Works.
There are six primary pieces to the current running suit: the hat, the running suit, the cape, boots, gloves, goggles, and of course grease.
THE KNIGHTING CEREMONY These ceremonies have been around for almost sixty years. Every year, the Fire King knights literally hundreds of lucky individuals. Special people are singled out by the King and his Krewe t bestow this unique privilege on. A knighting certificate consists of a "title" being bestowed, and a certificate being presented. The title and the memory of this event last forever. Titles bestowed usually reflect the individual's special contribution to a community, company, club or organization, or family enter Zeph :-)

Even if it isn't "sponsored" by the crew as an actual entity, or subentity... It would be cool to go out and be all weird every now and again... That is what Ilove about Halloween... (time to start thinking about that again)
Oh, that and scaring the pants off of little kids... (that is more of a halloween thingy, not so much for the hunt... I like to make people smile.. too)
And, I will have to think of some cool things to bring for the hunting kids... maybe I will be able to drag mine out for a while as well... they lasted a whole 15 minutes at Phalen last year, and about 30 at Harriet the year before (Yes, I'll admit I was there...but only until the 9th clue...)
And, I have the best wife in the world, (yes I do...), so I know that that won't be a problem... :D
Greetings, I hope I can help you out. I can make 5 of the elven quarter capes for you, however the only wool available right now in the navy is a coatweight 100% wool. The wool used on the one you saw in the auction was a lighter weight wool, it was my sample and the fabric is no longer available. They would be beautiful in the heavier wool if that will work for you. The price will be a bit higher for the custom capes with the heavier fabric, at $59.99 each. They would be fully lined in cotton and made in any size from small to 3X. It would take about 6-8 weeks to complete them. Please let me know if your interested and we will go from there. Please let me know which sizes you are interested in.
peopel could take this real simple or go to the extreme too - put on a full fledged costume and talk in pirate speak etc.....
you can find rennesaince costumes on ebay tailored to your sizes too - pretty onexpensive - now are they warm?? no clue but...fun to envision 7-8 people in line or at a bar looking like the pirates of the carribean! LOL
if you go to the web site that lists all the former royalty all in a row, you'll notice that the year that had vulcanus rex xii had boreas rex xii, but the next year, was vulcanus rex xiii and boreas rex xiv.
i'll leave it to you to figure out the significance of this ;)
"merv the perv"....any medallionator.....and I mean any....
Â
...if we go the pirate way...I'm going to need to start growing out my hair again......so I can get beads in my hair...and the tattoos' are going to hurt like a bitch.....

You boys can wear what you want - I'm not - I am sticking with typical winter wear but will be looking for logoed items like a headband.
Regardless of what people wear, I would like it if we could agree, as a group, on a logo. I like ESD's newest one with the snow and the tools. This way, whatever we wear (boring winter stuff to pirates or firemen), we are identifiable.

want to work for 3m if they have schnaaps! thats a great job benefit
I like the tools. Sad there's no tiara though. :(
Lee, are you making fun of me again? I knew I should have never let you see me without makeup.

so many new hunters this year, sorry I couldn't make rehash bash, but hope to see all of you on the mock hunt & at Schells.

Why was this the year of Boreas Rex LXIX and Vulcanus Rex LXVIII ??
Why are they different?
Hope I saved the "official" e-mail
Why was this the year of Boreas Rex LXIX and Vulcanus Rex LXVIII ??
Oh crap, I used to know the answer to this. It's in a book we've got at home somewhere.

Used to be called the Fire King... and not Rex?

I'm not sooo geared up on the pirate crap....you my friend are on your own....
but I am very tempted into getting a fireman's helmet...real or cheap....getting it custom airbrushed...or just stickers....not sure yet....
heck I might even buy a used fireman's jacket on ebay.... ..
Â
Â
Thats great!! I guess I really am good for something, after all!!!
Just wait till I tell my mom, she'll never believe it...
(kidding, mom, kidding)
:)
I could even get a teira painted on the helmet...
I think that wearing the jackets and helmets would be great at the bars and in the line.
Just think....after a night of hanging out in a park with KT...we would even SMELL the part....
Even if it isn't "sponsored" by the crew as an actual entity, or subentity... It would be cool to go out and be all weird every now and again... That is what Ilove about Halloween... (time to start thinking about that again)

I don't mind having extra stuff to give to kids we run into. I'm all about making people smile too.
I'm taking the whole two weeks off next year during the carnival... so if others will be around I don't mind showing up at events early in the hunt.
[Edited by on Feb 7, 2005 at 10:24am.]

:D
on the fire fighters gear - we can all get it pretty inexpensive!!
i will start looking it up and bidding accordingly - hemluts are a must too!! rock on!
I was with you on the Pirate thingy, since were lookin for buried treasure and all.....
:o
Well one way or another we have to come to some idea on this. Need to know what direction we want to go.
I'm cool with whatever we all decide to do.

Â
for the girls....I have her email address...
Â
Â
Â
I know of a handful who would be happy to contact her lol
I personally don't care....
but you do see more fireman with tools like a shovel, pick, chainsaw, etc..
More then a pirate...
if we buy gear on ebay...need to b-careful not 2 bid on top of each other...
renaissancevillagesquare@hotmail.com
Is Clue Master in on this too?
I honestly like the fireman's stuff better....
I think a person could spend what they wanna spend on gear....
cheap plastic....vs.....real thing (helmet)
custom airbrush work.....vs. painting it yourself
I don't need a used coat......I just want one...
Â
then again an eyepatch is cheap....but I can't find a medallion with 2 good eyes....
i prefer the pirate or rennasaince theme - that way people can get and do what ever they like -poet - pirate - knight or whatever-
with the fire gear it will limit peeps a bit i think - althought it is a kewl alternative....
so my vote would be for the pirate/rennesaince (sp?) way but if I am over ruled I am fine with it!
peopel could take this real simple or go to the extreme too - put on a full fledged costume and talk in pirate speak etc.....
you can find rennesaince costumes on ebay tailored to your sizes too - pretty onexpensive - now are they warm?? no clue but...fun to envision 7-8 people in line or at a bar looking like the pirates of the carribean! LOL
OK...I don't care anymore...I got a "twist" on it.....
if you go to the web site that lists all the former royalty all in a row, you'll notice that the year that had vulcanus rex xii had boreas rex xii, but the next year, was vulcanus rex xiii and boreas rex xiv.
i'll leave it to you to figure out the significance of this ;)
then we can get a feel and go that way - i dotn care either way just stating my opinion-
besides the logo for kitch as a pirate could be - In search of the booty!
so who was your merv the perv in reference to?
Â
"merv the perv"....any medallionator.....and I mean any....
Â
...if we go the pirate way...I'm going to need to start growing out my hair again......so I can get beads in my hair...and the tattoos' are going to hurt like a bitch.....
I'm cool with the pirite thing.. Polus the whole "chest" thing will still have a place.

party pooper
:-)
Maybe Jesse Ventura could join us for the piratey thing? Ha ha!
I don't know about dressing up all funny. I like snowpants and headlights and shovels myself. But whatever floats your boat.
:-)
