Clue Master

Here's where I was today. Talk about a big fricken plane. Especially when it goes right over your head! I have awesome video from my vantage point along the pilot's club entrance road by Fort Snelling Park. It was a pretty big deal as tons of people showed up right at the last minute.

yeah... Dawn lived right next door to us, with her parents.... her and my sister were best friends growing up...

cant remember her parents names, for the life of me though... I always just referred to them as Mr. and Mrs. McDonough...

and then Dawn had a cousin, Nick who lived on the other side of the street, like half a block down, who I kinda hung around with from time to time...

I take it you knew them?

my sister pointed out to me that the listing says 2 bedrooms upstairs, and a den and stuff..

the den is probably what we used as my bedroom....

it wasnt much of a bedroom, really... we always joked that if i wasnt ever born, my sister would have used it as a walk-in closet...

the main bedroom upstairs would have been my moms, and we're guessing the 2nd one upstairs, is what used to be the upstairs kitchen, as the house was at one time, when my parents first moved in - a duplex....

I always remember that sink, as having the coldest water in the house, for some odd reason....

my parents actually moved in there, from accross the street, where they lived in a smaller duplex....

they lived in the lower half of 1017, for a while after my sister was born, but when the upstairs neighbors moved out, my parents just took over the entire house...

looks like my sisters old bedroom (which became mine, when she moved out), is now an upstairs "family room"...

and the bedroom downstairs, is what we used as an office/den/ and toy room....

I really hope they do an open house or something...

I guess my sister e-mailed the realtor, to ask whats up with it...

Not sure if its the same generation of McDonoughs - I knew Jaynelle, the daughter who was born around 1954. Seems like HER dad's name was Jay - she was named after him, sort of. She and Sandy Mroszak (1011 Cook) hung around together. My friend Vicky and I knew them from a bunch of kids Jaynelle and Sandy hung around with.

those names dont ring any bells here...

I knew the Sarros family over on Cook, too if that sounds familiar at all....

again - a friend of my sister, and then I was friends with the younger sibligs in that family too...

Sarros doesn't ring any bells. Trying to think of some of other kids in our group of friends who lived right in that area. Anderson, Walkosz, Edmeyer, Jasinski, Kopcinski, Hackl, Brabeck, I'm sure there were more.

any Farinella's?
Tue, 11/27/2007 - 12:29 PM Permalink
Eags

Nope - no Farinellas. We're talking circa 1969, so probably a whole different crop of people on those blocks over the past nearly four decades! But I always like to make connections like that, so its worth an ask.

Wicked Nick

yeah....

just thought I'd ask...

that was my moms maiden name.... and she's got 4 brothers...

she's the 2nd oldest, and graduated in '67....

everybody went to Johnson too....

they lived all over the East Side, growing up...

had a house across Jenks from what is now Cabs bar... the house doesnt exist anymore... just a vacant lot... it burned down, after they moved out...

my moms aunt/uncle still live right by there too....

then they lived by the church off of Jenks and Forest for a while... that house burned down after they moved out too....

that land sat vacant for a long time as well... but a new house was just built there, a couple of years ago...

they lived over off of Case and Johnson Parkway for a while (that one never burned down, lol)....

and ofcourse, they lived over on Pacific, by Mounds Park, which I've mentioned here before...

I know theres probably a couple of houses that im forgetting...

I think my grandparents just kept moving around so much, because the family just kept getting bigger....

Have they owned it long? It's like everyone knew everyone else there. Real family feel to it even though they had a bar and slots. We had the cheeseburger pizza that you put the pickles on top and their chicken specialty that you have two different dipping sauces.

I forgot how good non-chain pizza tasted. I even like the Walmart take-and-bake better than most of the chains.

They've owned it since at least 1974 when we bought our place up there. He was a school teacher too, but is retired from teaching now. They're about my age. They have a couple of sons who might be part of the business now too. I'm not sure.
