Pre-Dig Gig, Rehash Bash and other Cooler events

Hey does anyone know anything about "Rock the Palace" going on the first weekend of the carnival? Is it anything like the Vulcan Victory Dance? How much $$$ to get in?

Yes it will be similar to the Victory Dance...

Its meant to celebrate the beginning of carnival with the arrival of King Boreas...

Details are still being finalized - but it will be very similar in cost I believe because of the venue - we just need to finalize the Band - (we have it down to two choices)...

For "Rock the Palace" at Winter Carnival I have been working on getting The Pearl to be the band that night...

So far they think I am the only one who has ever heard them play - So feel free to post on the event's wall on Facebook that you know the band and what you think of them (positive comments please - there are enough cooks in the kitchen trying to stir the pot of what band to have that night we don't need more suggestions, its down to two bands)

Update on PDG:

So, I spoke to Annette, and have been going back and forth and back and forth. Here's what we've got so far:

The place can't hold the whole group. So, they'll put up heated tents. But to do that, they've got to make some money, because they won't shut the entire place down.

SO...It will be a Pre-dig gig open to all comers, big, small and medium, and there will be an entrance fee charged at the door, along with ID checking, probably. Ideally, we'll get Ma Press to release the clue AT the party, and then make it a WC event, to make it more visible. Regardless, it'll be "The Cooler Crew presents" Pre-dig gig. That's my deal-breaker to all parties involved.

Prices for entrance:

$10 Joe anybody

$6 with your Winter Carnival Button

$3 with your previous year Cooler crew button

AND...For entrance, you get their buffet, which is usually 10 bucks. So everybody eats, and if you have a cooler button coming in, then you're eating at a discount.

Coolers would work the door so various Mrs. and Misters would get in at the discounted rate.

Reason we'd have to do bracelets is it's probably going to be a big party, and word is there's a DJ that likes playing Crazy Bit@ch for the Diggin Daughters. But since it's our "house" and our "party" bracelets will be for bartenders to give Coolers drink discounts (yet to be finalized.)

I'm working to get annette to tell me what dollar amount she'd need to break even and cover the staff handsomely for the night, and I figure the rest will go to St. Paul park beautification.

That is all. So far.

RB - Let me know what you need to promote on carnival side (if anything).

I just need the paper to bless it to give us the clue, so once that happens, then we need Beth to OK it.

However, this tied to the carnival is bothering me. I, personally call "Foul!" Smacks too much of a carnaval event. Me - as Joe Public? - I would scream to the high heavens about any of you finding The Med after such a gig.

Find somewhere else to use you bidness skills. We are are grassroots group. Open to anyone that wants to hunt. No wristbands needed.

I am afraid I am here to cancel out my husbands aye (or poke him in the eye) I am very afraid that what is being said is that we will end up paying for the privilege of spending the pre-dig in a tent in the parking lot of a already parking challenged facility. Heated is a debatable term at 30* and I for one am uninterested in charging people to attend an event where they may not even want to participate in a buffet (remember the pre-dig usually occurs in the evening and not everyone will be interested in a $10 meal at that time. Also concerned about smoking _ it is in a tent, does that mean there will be smoking? This is a big event with a proven track record for money making. We shouldn't be in a position where we are paying handsomely for the opportunity of making Yarusso's a lot of money. I was pretty firmly in the Yarusso camp and find myself leaning towards Obbs for the simple reason that everyone is welcome regardless of their financial situation ($10.00 per person is very steep when you add on carnival buttons) not to mention that it is hardly inclusive or welcoming of new members to say we are gonna stick you with 3 times the bill. I feel like this is no negotiation at all and the only winners here are Yarussos. Would anyone be interested in seeing what I can negotiate at Obbs?

TC I am sorry I like I have said will not go if it is at Obbs for the size of the pre dig has far out grown what they can handle and as far the Smoking I would not be smoking in a tent were most of the people I know are not smokers! I have a feeling we are getting to the Size that we are going to have to start paying for a place to hold this event!!

I know I am not alone when I say WE CAN NOT FIT IN OBBS ANY MORE!!! I will say they have gone out of there way for us Like Yarusso's and I will say I am not in favor of charging for a event that since I have been around has been FREE and I think it should remain that way! but again if we keep growing every year like we do then we are going to have to figer so I guess you have to owe me a poke in the Eye also!

for my mental health and Emily's we will not be going to Obbs if that is in fact were we wind up at! I dont care were we go as Long AS IT IS AT least 2 times the size of obbs!

and I am sorry to hear that things wont go they way people think about Yarusso's I think that if there is food that is catered included with the price of the tent and all that jazz I am good with it! I just dont want to have it dropped in our lap a few days before that someone took it on them self's to get something like food going and then tell us about it later!

And as far as things go I have been out of the loop on the boards this year for the most part! after my Member ship Expires on 1-21-11 I am NOT re-newing it at all! I dont think this group is right for me! anymore the things that have changed over the last 2 years has giving me a sour taste in my mouth about alot of things that go on in the group some of you know how to get a hold of me out side of the boards and there is were you can get me My member ship will expire before the hunt this year it sounds and looks like!

I don't like the idea of charging folks, but I would rather pay than go back to Obbs. It's just too small in that lower level.

I wonder if Yarusso's would give us the space if it were a bit later.

Is the problem with Yarusso's that the whole place is too small for all of us? Or, that they can't shut it all down? Because all of Yarusso's has to be bigger than the basement of Obb's. Would Obb's consider giving us the upper level?

I can't be in a tent if there is smoking.

I figured Yarusso's might be busier early in the evening, but that will clear out when we all arrive.

I hear ya on the SMOKING!! I think and I am A SMOKER!! THAT IF IT IS In the TENT There Can be NO SMOKING!! respect other peoples lungs and health! I dont smoke in Emily's car our apt. or around others that dont smoke if it bugs them!

I agree that we are getting to be a very large group and it is going to be necessary to have to pay to get the space we need as we grow. We are lucky so far we really haven't had to but then again we've had some less than stellar locations IMO. That being said I also don't like the idea of paying to be able to stand outside in a tent. I think we all know we've out grown the "back room" or basements of many locations I think we really need to find a cooler "sponsor" (or whatever) a bar that will allow us to pretty much have the run of the place for the night. What about charging $5 verses just the $1 it is now for cooler buttons with all proceeds going to predig or rehash party space? I don't know I am just trying to come up with other solutions or fundraiser than charging at the door.

I understand that with a prior cooelr button you're talking about $3 for Yurruso's but to others that want to come it's $10 I wouldn't spend $10 to go to a function where I didn't know anyone just to check it out plus have to buy drinks on top of it. I understand food is included but honestly (and I know I'm not the only one) but I'm not a huge fan of their food I've found 1 appetizer I like there but anything with their spaghetti sauce forget it, it's just not to my taste.

RB I know you've been negotiating with Yurosso's and it sounds pretty set from your prior post. Is this set in stone or do we have other options available?

As far as a menu selection goes, I really could care less - like some say, this is an EVENING event not necessarily a DINNER event. Appetizers is really all that should be on the menu for a loose group like us anyway.

I like the idea of having a three-room circus at Yarusso's - no offense to Lil' Man's tunes, but loud music next to a table I am trying to have a conversation at will make me leave faster than bad cigar smoke.

It would be nice to have space, especially for a group photo - but that's only going to be 15 minutes of the whole evening. If Ma Press wants to do some 'Clue' presentation, Hallelujah! If not, I'm all for making fun of the dude in the bowler hat like we did last year.

Honestly I would prefer Yarussos.... that being said I would prefer white castle to a tent in the parking lot. If Yarussos can get us inside without a cover and everyone could order what they like, I am all for it. Here Here to L&A Mommy! In the future we will have to think of creative ways of raising funds for our celebration. The problem I am having with the cover is that $10.00 is excessive and honestly I fail to see the value in the buffet. I think this group needs to be welcoming to new hunters and charging them more than we are paying to check out an event seems to be less than hospitable. Smoking would also be a deal breaker for me. If we make it a cooler crew event in an outside facility and our members collect the funds does that make us vulnerable to liability? I remember talk of the place being shut down for the hunt celebration - honestly it is a big money maker for them too. Especially if there is press coverage with a clue release. Coolers spending money plus free advertising equals a good opportunity for Yarussos in my opinion.
