Matty B's ranks up there for me too.... me and steve had the car, in the parking ramp, all stocked up with beer.... all we had to do was go out the back door, and the car was pretty much right there.

ah yes Matty B's ...that year was the first time I didn't have to drive us home - - so needless to say I had me some good times that night! :ooh: fun!

It was also the first year of the Darlins'...and I think Amoreena and the the rest of those darlins' made a grand entrance too  fond memories :lipsealed:

That year at Matty B's I was sitting talking to D4it's two daughters and my wife.

Jake comes over, sits down. Says to Amoreena:

"Hi, I'm Jake, are you in a committed relationship?"

"Yes."

Turns to my wife.

"Hi, I'm Jake, are you in a committed relationship?"

"Yes."

"Have a nice evening, ladies."

-and gets up and walks away.

I have been going through old photos and came across this group shot with Matt Birk (back row)- pre-dig 2008?. I see Zeph, Sunny was in town! and a few that arn't around much anymore but what a fun night! Matty B's was fun because of the dance floor and Capitol Room and the bar and the curtains and the coat room! I did like the pre-digs at McGoverns downstairs both 04 and 05 and the time Boxmeyer showed up upstairs 2006.

That pic was not at the PDG. That was during the hunt on a pre clue night.

I'm pretty sure no one wore snow pants to the PDG.

So...following a typical pattern, the PDG would fall on January 22?

Cool! I'm putting it on my calendar and going to try to divert my business around that time period so I can actually hunt for the first time in years.

Had my annual treasure hunt dream last night. I love finding the thing. me2 and BFG were there but not looking. I actually got to hold it and show it to them before waking up. It felt awesome. Only thing was that it was metal and found inside the liner of a snow boot. I had to pull out all the liners of a bunch of boots and happened to get lucky about boot 12. Nice

I looked in my hand and it wasn't there when I woke up. :frown:

Baseball Treasure Hunt at Midway (Saints) Field - Bury a bunch of marked baseballs in the snow and have kids dig 'em up. No fair adults helping - there's a baseball field under it that we don't want you to rake to death. Sorry.

Poker tourney?????
Wed, 04/14/2010 - 3:42 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

you know how the saints do that "largest game of catch", in downtown, every year?.....

they should do a "largest snowball fight"..... just get a couple thousand people in a field, throwing snow at eachother....

complete chaos and badass, all at the same time..

also would be fun...

a go-fish, or uno tournament (for those people who suck at poker)...

a giant game of tag, or freeze tag, or something of the sort...

golfing on a lake (i dont golf - mainly because it sucks - but I hear that some people actually enjoy it, and i've seen it done on frozen lakes before)

potato sack races?

bocce ball tournament (can be played indoors, everything doesnt hafta be out in the snow, right?)

dodgeball

I dunno.... I'm sure I'll think of more..... most of them will be stupid, but hopefully something is useful...

I'd like to see a Catapult / Trebuchet contest - have someone build a small-scale ice castle out of ice blocks, and have people design all matters of medieval siege equipment to throw/hurl/launch boulders of snow and ice at the thing. Points for originality of design and the wreckage factor.

I think we all get so wrapped up in the hunt that we tend to forget to look at all the other stuff that goes on with the carnival -

It is my goal next year to post highlights of "happenings" next year.

There shouldn't be much going on on the river in January. What about divebombing snowballs off the Wabasha bridge onto a target below? Score it like bocce ball maybe. Or maybe there's some other way to play snowball based bocce ball.

A Boreas/Vulcan themed murder mystery

A life sized chess game with pieces carved from ice and on little carts to move them.

A treasure hunt where you have to go around St. Paul solving puzzles to find all 7 Vulcans who each give you a clue to the final location.

Mini-golf course made of ice

Bubble hockey tournament

Milk carton sled race.

Perhaps a treasure hunt written by Jake. At least that way he couldn't find it and the pp board bashers couldn't bitch about it.
