We had a St Paul cop come to our Cub Scouts Pack Meeting last night and he told us they use .40 caliber.
btw: They issue St Paul cops Glocks.
Anyone explain why they would use such an unusual round? Or is it not that unusual? I've never used it and I've been shooting since I was a kid. Why not a .45?
I wanted to ask the cop but not in front of the kids.
Let me make my example a little simpler. The AR15 and the Ruger Mini14 are identical firearms from a performance standpoint, they just look different. The AR15 is banned because of the way it looks, but the Mini14 is just fine because it looks OK. To me, even not looking at any details, this seems to be a stupid law, yet people support it. Why do they support it? Could it be misinformation? Could it be emotions? Could it be lack of knowledge regarding these firearms? Maybe it is all of the above.
My point still stands. How can you go about doing a poll on a subject that most people don't know much about, in an effort to sway public opinion? This is the exact point that the anti war folks are focusing on when they say, "Well maybe most people support a war with Iraq with UN backing, but they don't understand the issue. They think that some of the 9/11 terrorists were from Iraq". That is my paraphrasing, but essentially what was stated.
Rick, all of us are IN the MINNESOTA UNORGANIZED MILITIA!
190.06 Militia; members; exemptions.
Subdivision 1. Composition. The militia shall  consist of:
(1) all able-bodied citizens of the state and other  able-bodied persons residing in the state who have or shall have  declared their intention to become citizens of the United  States, when so authorized by federal law, who comply with the  minimum age requirements for federal regular military service  under United States Code, title 10, section 505, and who are not  more than 45 years of age; provided, that the governor may, when  the governor deems it necessary for the defense of the state,  extend the maximum age for militia service to not more than 64  years; and
(2) persons who enlist in, are commissioned in, or are  otherwise appointed to the Minnesota national guard in  accordance with applicable federal law and regulation, including  enlisted members, warrant officers, and commissioned officers.
Subd. 2. Classes. The militia shall be divided into  two classes, the organized militia and the unorganized militia.  The organized militia shall consist of the following:
(1) the national guard;
(2) the state guard, which shall comprise all organized  components of the militia except the national guard.
The unorganized militia shall consist of all other members  of the militia.
So we're awash in guns because because the framers were scared of their own government and trusted no one, even the people built homes and lived among them.
It probably is snesible to be afraid of the government, I mean the liberals may, one day, regain control of it!!!!!!!
(Big sigh) fold we were referring to the government. The liberals have a good hold in the judiciary. But we have a fairly conservative president and Congress has many fine conservative reps. Of course the press and the colleges are rampant with extreme left wingers.
He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do Should he hang on to the old Should he grab on to the new He's an old hippie...his new life is just a bust He ain't trying to change nobody He's just trying real hard to adjust
He was sure back in the sixties that everyone was hip Then they sent him off to Vietnam on his senior trip And they forced him to become a man while he was still a boy And in each wave of tragedy he waited for the joy Now this world may change around him But he just can't change no more
A failure to communicate:You say Gun; I say Control
This is looking a lot like the English debate about alcohol control last century but one.
[with reference to the formation of the Temperence Alliance]
The association, or "Alliance" as it terms itself, which has been formed for this purpose, has acquired some notoriety through the publicity given to a correspondence between its Secretary and one of the very few English public men who hold that a politician's opinions ought to be founded on principles. Lord Stanley's share in this correspondence is calculated to strengthen the hopes already built on him, by those who know how rare such qualities as are manifested in some of his public appearances, unhappily are among those who figure in political life.
[The TA position]
The Secretary, however, says, "I claim, as a citizen, a right to legislate whenever my social rights are invaded by the social act of another." And now for the definition of these "social rights." "If anything invades my social rights, certainly the traffic in strong drink does. It destroys my primary right of security, by constantly creating and stimulating social disorder. It invades my right of equality, by deriving a profit from the creation of a misery, I am taxed to support. It impedes my right to free moral and intellectual development, by surrounding my path with dangers, and by weakening and demoralizing society, from which I have a right to claim mutual aid and intercourse."
[J S Mill's commentary]
A theory of "social rights," the like of which probably never before found its way into distinct language--being nothing short of this--that it is the absolute social right of every individual, that every other individual shall act in every respect exactly as he ought; that whosoever fails thereof in the smallest particular, violates my social right, and entitles me to demand from the legislature the removal of the grievance. So monstrous a principle is far more dangerous than any single interference with liberty; there is no violation of liberty which it would not justify; it acknowledges no right to any freedom whatever
The only job you have outside of the life you have created here on the Internet, is keeping your undies changed on an every-other week schedule...Need it or Not.
Get Lost, you Loser.
I do not know why you insist on being an asshole. If I were to prove to you what I have stated all along your opinion would totally discredited. But such proof comes at a risk I am not willing to pay. That risk exists because of people like you.
The question is, how much is it worth to YOO, to be thought of as anything BUT a fradulent nincompoop, to just about everyone here?
I think you need to speak for yourself, fold. Now I know that I irritate everyone here at one time or another, and some a bit more than others, but you are the only one that believes the above nonsense. But that isn't surprising because you seem to believe alot of nonsense.
Jethro, I didn't mean it as a personal attack. I'm just trying to keep the boards light, humorous somewhat so we don't start telling everyone to eat crap, take a flying leap, die, stuff like that. THX could have said his name was Tom and I would have made the joke.
I really didn't take it as a personal attack. I was trying to get something started. I just can't help myself sometimes. I really should get some help!!!!!

I see.
DUH
You can't fit 15 rounds of .45 in a standard clip but you can .40

it should also be noted, csc, that just because we're unorganised doesn't make us un-well regulated.
"it should also be noted, csc, that just because we're unorganised doesn't make us un-well regulated.'
Let me turn this one over in my head for awhile.
you do that, rick. and when you do, you'll find that when performinf militia duties, we're just as regulated as the other guys.
So we're awash in guns because because the framers were scared of their own government and trusted no one, even the people built homes and lived among them.

Why do you insist on answering, like some kind of freaking stooge?
Because I can.
Ever been to the Three Stooges ward of the hospital?
Not a pretty sight.
they won't let fold into the Stooges wing. He couldn't meet the stringent qualifications.
everybody let's do the bill-fold chant: from such an ignorant-loser, from such an ignorant-loser, from such an ignorant-loser....
(You can also sing it to the tune of he's a jolly good fellow.)
It'll make you fell better about yourself when your self esteem is low.

Just what we need.
Communist or not, they're certainly not a threat to you, are they?

Those sound like the words of a Communist to me!
:-)
Then I guess I'm busted.
Better red than dead.

Who are you useful to?
just for fold:
He's an old hippie and he don't know what to do

You that curious about my name?
It's Rick.
It's true.
His name is Rick.
Maybe it's because I don't have my name in the Who's Here listing.
I never ascribed courage or cowardice to my decision not to post it there.
I usually don't have my name on the who's here list because it gets too distracting to get too many e-grams.
I usually only have it up when I want someone to e-gram me.
why do you put your name when you want e-grams, JT? you don't want e-grams unless your name is listed?
Usually I put my name up when I want my sisters to know I'm here.
It's not that I don't want them but I don't get as many if I hide my name.
so some of these posters are your sisters?
No, they don't post on the public threads.

If you make it worth my time fold, i'll prove it to you. so how much is it worth to you?
Now tell me, which person in here that has ever been "Found Out", has also had a visitor from these boards who then hurt them?
There's been quite a few.
It's neither cowardice or stupid to protect yourself.
It is, if you tell someone you will do it for a price.
Well, yeah, that is kind of stupid. Don't know what the motivation is there, other than screwing with ya. Quit falling for it.
Pssst: Jethro's real name is Tom.
The question is, how much is it worth to YOO, to be thought of as anything BUT a fradulent nincompoop, to just about everyone here?
