Was caching over around Jefferson and 35E on Saturday, and not any snow around except in some shady spots, pretty much cleared off everywhere I went in town.
I can guess the temp by measuring the distance from the bottom front step to where our dogs pee in the morning. This morning it was 6 inches. If it gets any colder it will probably be the welcome mat.
I thought when clue 11 came out that the temps were supposed to -10 to -12 that night. So I decided to wimp out and wait for clue 12. I didn't figure on the fact that clue 11 pretty much gave as much detail as clue 12. :eyeroll:  :crying:
The last night at Mounds had slightly warmer air temps but a HOWLING wind - I think I remember wind gusts pushing -40 windchill. Like an idiot I did a lot of searching on the top of the hill and darn near got blown over a couple times.
The weather during last year's hunt was crazy. I remember it being like 40 above during the day before the 11th clue came out and hunting in my sweatshirt. Then within like 12 hours or so it dropped to 20 below. I remember hearing that the windchill that last night was something like 30 or 35 below. Everyone's cell phone died because the batteries aren't designed for use in weather that cold.
I drove over to IM the day before the last clue came out and remember it being a beautiful, warm day. I walked to the edge of the bluff on that path to the east of where it was found and stood and looked at the view for the longest time. I chipped away ice on a stone ledge and used a stick to write OT on the side of a hill. I was all alone out there and it was just beautiful. One of my favorite memories of hunting after all these years.
We do it all summer, the only thing that stops us is weddings and graduations, by the end of the summer you get to the point where you just want to stay home and chill...and then winter comes and that feeling passes pretty quickly
you should!! the tubing is a blast and if you come on a themed weekend like halloween there is kareoke  you'll get tired of the tenting someday like we did...we had a pop-up for a year, it was better than freezing on the hard ground every night but if it rains all weekend it's a pretty small space to be stuck in if there is more than 2 people.
We are working on that  pretty much just down to andrew now, Tawny is 17 and will be a senior next year. we plan on buying a new one in the next couple of years, this one has bunk beds in it and we don't need those anymore, would like to find one with a little bigger bathroom.
it could be the 3rd book you've ever read  badabing
all hell can break loose on your deck
Hardyharhar
Aren't the Sunday comics considered short colorful books too? I've read 1000's of books if that's the case.
so there!
Just trying to decide what kinds of footwear, etc. to bring along - heading down tomorrow, I hope.

I wish I could camp every weekend, in the summer....
Im always looking for new places...
although we're tent sleepers - we dont have a camper..... yet.
it just makes it more fun, because then you can surround your camping area with a man-made river, and declare yourself "king of the island"....
We have a Dutchman and like it a lot. Shopped a bit before buying it.
just what we need in time for the hunt.
pop-up envy.
