There's a first time for everthang. (That bodes well for the duffus non-Boxmery/Millett Clue Writers. There should be a first time they do good Clues...) But we always run outta food. I'm full and all, but not eye-bugging stuffed like I wanna bee.
This is like the shmorgusboard buffay to end all buffays. This is the Big Ko-huna (Don Ho for'ya there...) of groaning boards.
This is the WORLD'S BEST chow fest. I've yet to go to a restaurant that's better. Lake Elmo Inn doesn't even hold a candle to it.
I woke up feeling like crap. I am not going to make the Rehash this year. I am just bummed, the whole hunt went by so quickly and I didn't really get to see half the people that made last year's hunt so special. Green, I will have to wait til next year to give you the hepatitis wings:( HOpe everyone has a good time. KT, I missed seeing you this year, it wasn;t the same without a fire.
Art... You've now got to make a double batch (Double? Chair-O-Key?) o'those Hepatitus Wings. I'm countin' on you.
Hit post too soon.
Missed you and Snow Jester. Missed your humor(s). So sorry to hear you're under the weather! It would not have been a good idea for you to be out in the cold and wet. Snuggle in.
Wish we could have hung out a bit longer today. I knew that one of us was going to have to bring Emily across town to a birthday party, but I just figured the rest of us would stay for the duration.
Thanks Terry for taking care of my bowl! I really appreciate that! Sorry it sounds like we missed out on most of the festivities...I would have loved to see Green win the golden shovel!!
Regret that I didn't get a chance to talk to a lot of people. But I'm hopeful that maybe I'll have enough time to squeeze in some of the mock hunts. I'm pretty sure that we can't make it to AW's kickoff gig - but I look forward to noodling again!!
I too need to get under blankets, Monday's are my long days and I always have a hard time going to bed Sunday night - dumb, eh?
OH! And a BIG THANK YOU to Scribe from the girls for the tiara's. It meant so much to them, especially Emily that you actually remembered after a whole year!
Queen did it 'the Spier way'Taking the advice of her ailing father, Jessica Spier goes for title — and wins.BY MARY DIVINEPioneer PressIt was Jessica Spier's father who encouraged her to compete in this year's St. Paul Winter Carnival's Queen of the Snows contest.
"You do it, and you do it right," Joseph Spier told his daughter before he died. "Do it the Spier way."
Jessica Spier, 28, of South St. Paul was crowned Queen of the Snows on Friday night. She beat eight other women to earn the title at a ceremony at the St. Paul RiverCentre Ballroom.
The Queen of the Snows and King Boreas, who is Neill O'Neill, will reign over nearly two weeks of festivities during the Winter Carnival and then will make public appearances at events and festivals throughout the year.
Spier talked Saturday morning about how much the Friday night coronation would have meant to her father. He died Jan. 20 at the age of 57.
"I know he was there last night looking down and smiling," she said. "I know he's very proud of me."
Joseph Spier of West Fargo, N.D., was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1991. He worked as an engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad and enjoyed coming to St. Paul for the Winter Carnival, Jessica Spier said. His other daughter, Jessica's older sister, Juliette, was crowned Queen of the Snows in 2000.
"He was wheelchair bound, but any of the Winter Carnival events he could get to, he would," Spier said.
In honor of her father, Spier participates each year in a three-day, 50-mile walk to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. She also has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and the East Side Lions.
Spier has a bachelor's degree in animal science from the University of Minnesota. She works as a veterinary assistant at Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital and plans to pursue a doctorate in veterinary science. She wants to be a veterinarian one day, specializing in small animals.
Spier ran for Queen of the Snows two years ago and previously served as the Payne-Arcade Harvest Festival Queen. She says that experience — along with her father's encouragement — helped persuade her to try again this year.
"We had such a good time. You just live and eat the Winter Carnival," she said.
Spier was first introduced to the festival about eight years ago when friends dragged her to Como Park one night to search for the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt medallion.
"There we were in the middle of the night," she said. "It was crazy. We had such high hopes of finding it."
Dressed all in white and wearing sparkling snowflake earrings during an appearance at the St. Paul Curling Club on Saturday morning, Spier smiled and waved enthusiastically as she was introduced as the new Queen of the Snows.
"This is so much fun," she said as she boarded a bus to go to her next appearance. "It's all about meeting and greeting and spreading the cheer of St. Paul to every place that we go."
And although she was operating on only 2½ hours of sleep, she said she was taking sister Juliette's Queen of the Snows advice:
"She told me to relax and enjoy each moment for what it is because it all goes by so quickly," she said.
heh...another SSPite medallion hunter....
the wierd thing...I'm running into medallion hunters everywhere this year...
Sorry I didn't make it out to the RHB. I had to run a medallion hunt for our youth group at church. Our original plan was to take the youth out medallion hunting. But that plan was foiled by a group of teens on Friday morning.
Green - I can get you a book at any time and would be happy to sign it for you. And yes, that probably is the most anyone has heard me talk. I'm a shy one, you know! Probably because my parents locked me in a closet for the first twelve years of my life. Just kidding, I love my parents.
As far as the radio goes, it was fun to chat with two of the best cluewriters that the hunt has ever seen. Fun experience all around! I did tape the show on cassette and will try to get a copy to KC to convert to a mp3 for archive purposes.
There! Now I also have created the longest post that I have ever contributed.
Missed seeing a lot of people this year. I do enjoy the hunt and all the wonderful people I've met through the treasure hunt!
Small world Mr. Med! I also hid a medallion for my church's youth group. Funny thing was they had to call me at home twice to figure out where it was. Shoot I stuck it in a new nut goodie wrapper and didn't even cover my tracks....
Let me know when you have time to meet up and I can get a copy of that tape from you.
I got a DVD recording of the WCCO special from friday evening. Saw me2 on one of the news reports, I'll get a screen capture at home of it.
Hello Cooler People! I'm sorry I didn't make it to the Rehash Bash but I was busy working. I just started a new job working three days per week (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), twelve hours per day (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM). I'm working at Celestica It is a large electronic company with it's local building located in Arden Hills near the corner of Highway 96 and 35W.
I enjoyed the hunt again this year (what there was of it) and will look forward to next year!
Hey Zeph!!! It was an honor and privilege to meet you, too! And I'm glad I brought you everything you wanted for Christmas! It kept my elves busy, though! I'm looking forward to seeing you again, too! We should get together at other times during the year besides the hunt. There are so many nice people in the cooler crew that it a shame we only socialize once a year!
MM: Hi! It was nice to see you at the Pre-Dig Gig! How have you been? The job is going good. I hope it stays that way! Say, would you send me your phone number in an e-mail? I'd like to talk to you about some things that would take up too much time and space here. Send it to daveyoung@bigfoot.com Hope to see you again soon!
Hi Terry! Yup! I remember Conway! I was only ten feet from the medallion. Maybe I would have found it if someone didn't steal my shovel! Working weekends sucks. But maybe sometime down the line things will change.

Now, where did I put my GREEN monkey suit????
Outta in T minus 15 minutes
It was a short and sweet RHB- but the proper components were there.
I'm sorry you were under the weather- hope you had a restful day.
May the days be sunny- the nights filling, and the weekends and holidays be as eventful as you wish them to be.
Hit post too soon.

I thought I would start storing all the hunting gear, maps, boots, books and stuff today. Decided not to as I think I'm still a bit in denial.
Guess that will all come in due time.
Coolerheads will prevail one of these years.
I'm heading for the sheets.
Goodnight and SCDs to coolerheads everywhere!

Dear Clue Master. You are not allowed to give comment on any post in any thread at this time.
You failed to take part in the RHB, therefore you have been designated as an official "poopyhead".
In accordance with the unwritten Code, you must refrain from any posting until 2:16 PM, Monday, January something, 2005.
Thank you for your cooperation.
I never got a tiara.
Probably because I never asked nicely.
It's so nice and quiet in here.
I was only around the fire at the Re-Hash for about 30 seconds... however long it took me to burn my clues...
weird.
I kind of wish I could be hunting for the medallion in the right park. *sigh*
I probably still would have walked over it, and not found it, like I did anyways....
but atleast there would have been more snow, enough to actually "feel" like the Winter Carnival hunt...
I'm out of here too...

I thought of you when we drove by Conway the other night - for old times sake - and how your shovel got stolen there.
I knew you were working Sunday. Long hours - but only 3 days...too bad they are on the weekends.
