47 musher teams have finished the race over the past five days. Lance Mackey won the race, third year in a row - he also got the Humanitarian award.
5 teams remain on the trail or at checkpoints, all should be in by sometime Tuesday (tomorrow) morning.
15 teams have scratched or withdrawn from the race.
I have not seen nor heart the name Kyzer at all.
Our vet is in the current Red Lantern position, and he is at White Mountain checkpoint now for mandatory 8-hour rest, should be heading out about 8:45PM or so this evening (our time) and depending on how long he stops along the trail or in Safety checkpoint, could be into Nome about 7-8AM Tuesday morning (out time).
There is going to be one big party in Marquette when he gets back home!
You're welcome, Diggin...I love pretty much anything related to eagles, but this site is about the best I've found. There have been some sad years, some triumphant years. So far, so good, this year!
Glad Monday is out of the way. Had one person go home sick today and another took her daughter in to the doctor to find out she has pneumonia and can't be in daycare for the rest of the week. She's trying to find a substitute, but otherwise she will be out all week.
I know it will work out somehow. Just wish it wasn't happening all at once. We only have one float.
It was great hearing the thunder earlier this evening. Love that sound. Hope we get some more overnight.
Tim's wife was keeping a blog during the race. One of the first entries, on their arrival in Wasilla, was "I can see Sarah Palin's house from here" after which she said she was only joking. In a subsequent entry, she revealed that she was eating crow - she found out she *could* see Sarah Palin's house from there.
Sarah Palin called the winner, Lance Mackey, to congratulate him. He finally got it right this year - the first year he won and she called, he didn't know who she was, and either that year or the next year, inadvertently addressed her as "sir", or so the story goes.
Funny: I had lunch with a buddy of mine the other day who runs the Cordon Bleu cooking academy here in town, and he had this one particular dish that he really likes, and he was telling me that he couldn't quite get it the same way at home and he wasn't sure how to do it better. I said to him "So let me get this straight, you run the best cooking school in the twin cities, have some of the best chefs in the country on staff, who work for you - and you're complaining about a cooking problem?
No wonder the rest of us have problems with recipes not turning out right! If the chefs have things that bomb, I don't feel so bad when something I make is a flop.
My wife is one who will comment and/or return a plate of food at a restaurant if she doesn't like it. Unless something in it is toxic, I just eat what I get and say 'fine' when the waitress comes by 2-1/2 seconds after we got the food.
Funny thing is, she won't say a single word about her own cooking, no matter how ghastly it might be. She waits for me to say something, even needles me for comments. What do you do when you KNOW you're standing in a live trap, and you got not choice but to grab the bait? I need a Twix moment to think about it...
MD, I'd just be honest about it (although not unnecessarily blunt). Of course, you are married and I am single, and our respective attitudes might/probably have something to do with that  But yeah, I like being honest about everything. People/girls don't (usually) hate me for it... if anything, they are happy when I compliment them because they know I wouldn't go out of my way to do that if I didn't mean it.
A couple things:
First off, if you are downtown on Sunday evenings, you should stop by my place. Call me for directions. Jeremy, his friend Andy, and BFG are over every week to play games and stuff, and it is pretty chill and fun.
Secondly, as always, I have been playing a lot of disc. I am sure I have said this a million times on here, but if you are ever up for playing, just call me. MnM, BFG, and Jeremy have all gone out at least once this year (BFG quite a few times) and it has always been fun. Also, once it starts getting nice out, I would like to set up a day of the week where we all meet up and play. Quite a few people have expressed at least some interest in doing this. Once it gets nicer out, we can start talking about the time and location, etc. Also, some people have talked to me about learning how to play, and I think it would be cool to have more coolerhead discers. I have plenty of beginner-friendly discs and I am pretty good at teaching (and I am sure BFG, CM, and some others are also good), so don't hesitate.
Thanks for all the "good luck" posts here and in the discin' thread for the Atl Open. I thought I would post a response. My first tournament kind of went terribly and kind of went really well. It was probably not a good tourney to start out my career--it was an "A" tier, I was playing in the highest division, the course was really tricky (like, fairways that make hole #5 at Kaposia look generous) and new to me, it was raining, it was the first time I got to play without snow in a while, etc. So yeah, I didn't really ever get the butterflies out of my system and I shot way below where I should be or where I am when I go out with friends. I had some really good shots--it was mostly just breakdown sort of things, like getting on tilt and bogeying a few easy holes after missing one putt, or missing easy putts because I wasn't comfortable setting up--stuff that experience should reconcile. The good part, though, is that the tourny was 4 rounds and I feel like I got a lot of the bad stuff out of my system throughout all the rounds. I already notice an improvement in confidence while playing (casual rounds even). My first round was the worst by far, my second round was actually decent and rounds 3 and 4 started out amazingly well for 9 or so holes before I started falling apart quickly. I have been told that it takes a few tournies before you start putting up decent numbers and getting everything out of your system, and a couple people in my groups said I was definitely on track and doing well for a first tourney. So yeah, I have registered for quite a few tournies around here and I am going to try play as much as I can to get everything out of my system before the big tournaments like the Majestic and AM Worlds roll around. Also, it was a ton of fun, and I got to meet some really cool people from all over the south and pick up some cool plastic. I can tell I am really going to enjoy playing tournies and competing.
Finally, if anyone wants a regular "catch" frisbee for when it starts getting warm out, I have some with my ultimate team's logo and name on them and we are selling them for $10. They are white Ultrastars (the best frisbees on the market and the official disc of the UPA). Proceeds go to the University of Minnesota Ultimate Club.
Chili Cook-off at the White Bear Lake Senior Care Facility from 12 to 2pm.. It's their annual fundraiser..
About 15 non-profits are invited to bring a pot of chili, they bring in some judges and the public gets to come in and taste them all.. I think it's like $5.
bfg-- I left my phone somewhere and I don't have it today but you mentioned disc tomorrow (Sunday) and I am up for that. Maybe get MnM? Does she check this thing? I will call you tomorrow but I just wanted to give you a heads up.
jeremy-- Bring $10 next time we play or if I see you tomorrow and remind me and I will give you one. Hope your back gets better
I think Terry said the same thing I'm thinking... ask her what she thinks or sound interested by asking if she likes how she made it and if she enjoyed it and if it was easy or a challenge and would she make it again. However, probably not WHILE she is making the dish. everyone is different and hopefully you know her well enough. Depends on the person because some people can have a positive effect on how I prepare something and others can be like nails on a scratch board get out of the kitchen and eat it when I make it OR make it yourself and you better share cause I hardly complain about food preperation.
being honest about complimenting is one thing... being honest in general? be careful. Keep balance. if you have something negative to say you better be backing it up with kissing and rubbing feet later
BFG is fine! Jeremy hurt his back. It was really muddy at Kaposia and he was walking along the side of a hill and slipped... he didn't fall or anything but I think he sorta tweaked his back trying to stabilize.
Yeah... MnM definitely plays! She is really fun to play with but falls a lot when it is icy out
I hear that it is going to get bad out again for a few days (I think we are on the very edge of that snowstorm and will be getting some rain and wind) but I am looking forward to it warming up after and seeing more discers! I have been at Kaposia the last 3 days and the course traffic has really started to pick up!
Are any coolerheads representing us in the Trib hunt?
What? The Trib has a hunt?? When does it start? I would love to hang out with you guys sometime. What games do you guys play? I am not good at frisbee golf, but like to play when it is nice. Sometime I will get out with you guys this summer.
On the forums, we are usually just talking about disc golf. You should definitely come out when it starts getting warmer. Nobody cares how good you are. I don't know about the rest (I am sure CM does because he used to give me crap when I was younger about not doing so), but Jeremy never keeps score, Alex did last summer I think but so far not this year, and I only do some of the time... usually if someone else is and wants to compete with me or if I am preparing for something, so we are basically just out there to have fun and get better.
Jeremy, his friend Andy, bfg, and I play do Halo and other 360 games every Sunday night, though, if that is what you meant. You are definitely invited if you are interested. It is a good time... we rotate around but I am thinking it will be at my place this weekend.

and since I have have limited access to a computer.....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
hope you had a fun weekend!

The whole U.P. and especially Tim's vet patients are breathing a huge sigh of relief and are so proud of him!
