Has anyone eaten at the little burger place just a couple doors south of Great Moon on Robert? It's a little hole-in-the-wall place. Reminds me so much of a place where I grew up that was owned by a brother and sister duo. They opened when they felt like it and the only way you could tell they were open was by the cars in the lot (that had figured out they were open) or by smoke coming out of the chimney. They only did burgers, melts and chili and all was to die for. Fried greasy burgers with wonderful AM cheese.
So... Anyone know if this place has good greasy burgers and if they're cheap?
That's it, Eags. I knew it started with a J. Are they fried one one of those big grill thighys? Are they cheap? Should I stop by for a jeez booger, xtra jeez?
White Castle Fan?! This is better! Awesome burgers, malts, and onion rings. Mom & Pop biz that has fairly new owners, but has been there forever! Excellent food, and service.
I've had their malts and onion rings - very good.
Not sure where their prices fall these days, but I'm guessing still on the cheap side.
Green, stop by the nook across the street from Cretin Durham Hall on Hamline. Great burgers! The waitresses wear t-shirts that say "Meat is Murder...Tasty, tasty, murder."
I've followed the Nooky/Shamrock/Jucy Lucy threads on Chowhound. But at this point in my life The Nook is out of my price range and too peopled and "in." I'm looking for a greasey burger, like a bar burger. A dive burger.
Listen to us! Goin' so against our Omnivore credo. I'll be naughty if you will. Jeez booger, xtra jeez with onions, pickles, catchup, musturd and MAYO. And mayo - NO SALAD DRESSING - for the onion rings. Forget the straw on my banilla shake - I'll use a spoon.
Shall I wait for you?
Then we can 911 and have the firemen check our BP as we make sure their pole is in good working order...
Been there (did it), as well as 508 - back in the day when it was good. I don't drive past 280. Let'um duke it out over ther and then Saint Paul can move in and take over the property.
Seriously, I won't go any farther west than that great fish store on like 66th, right by the airport.
Don't wait, but if you like it and want to go again, I might be able to make it. Not sure when I can head out, trying to finish up my writing project as it is too hard to work while staying with people, then hoping the weather will cooperate when I can get out of here. Tomorrow looks good here, but not good there. Tuesday looks bad here, but good there. Have to get to Grand Forks by Wednesday evening, but may end up going directly from here, hitting the cities by Thursday evening. Meetings Friday in Plymouth, but that shouldn't take all day. Will be at the rehash, all other things being equal. Heading back to MQT probably 2/1.
Sorry Guys - Val's Rapid Serv is St. Cloud is hands down better than any greasy spoon in the Metro - not only are they dirt cheap and greasy, but they close during the coldest winter months just cuz' they want to.
If we're recommending places out of town, be sure to stop here if you ever drive through Delano. Just like drive-ins from the past. Burger in a basket delivered by a car hop. The onions rings are fantastic too.
and J&P cycles. and the Buddy Holly resting area. and the motorcycle museum. and those crazy covered bridges. and .... yeah, I ran out of good things too. :pbpt:
My family used to live in Little Falls, and when I went home, I often stopped at Val's. It's kind of like if Porky's and White Castle had a baby. I say this out of love.
We were *considering* taking the whole fam damily down for the parade. It would be too cold outside for my mom, but I remember one time EONS ago - like in the late 80's, Dad and I caught some of the parade from one of the skyways. Figured my mom and I could hang out up in one of those, and Dad and the kids could be where the action is....
I mean yup.
So... Anyone know if this place has good greasy burgers and if they're cheap?
Thanks!

not *dirt* cheap, but not bad. Burgers start at about $5
definitely one of our faves
they do a huge variety of jucy-lucys
and for my kids that aren't huge with the burgers, they have
the absolute BEST chicken strips! No frozen crap, handbattered
with a fabulous beer batter.

The best burger place I've been lately is BLUE DOOR PUB on the corner of Fairview and Selby.
They have 10-12 different varieties of Juicy Lucy's
Plus my hubby had a Jiffy burger -- pepperjack, bacon, mayo, pickles, and PEANUT BUTTER.... it was actually good.
They also have a breakfast burger - cheese, bacon, and a fried egg on top.
