All I know is, for my next wedding I will be wearing a hairy, flesh-toned ensemble because I will be buck naked with a toe tag lying on a slab in the morgue because I would have killed myself.

Way funny stuff Kitch! He got over 20,000 hits just while I was reading it. I like his style.

yeah OT- I have been following it all afternoon and into tonight--- I at the time I drove down there they hadnt gotten anyone else out besides the guy who wondered out. They say if they guy didnt get out and call the police that no-one would have known they were ever in there----That cave is on my list of 3 to research---I may have come across them---eeeeewwwww!!!! I was planning a cave trip through a couple there in the next couple of weeks with a group! It got postponed last week! I won't go in alone- we use helmets-flashlights, water and even one of those foil blankets but I don't know what I could do about monoxide-they had to have had a fire going! and they were from Savage-out of towners- NEVER START A FIRE IN A SANDSTONE CAVE!!!!!!! ---I am searching for a 'lost' cave -Its still there but whuch one is it exactly is the question and I am gonna find out! it was an old brewery cave in the mid 1860's (Not Yoerg). I had a really bad feeling when the cops talked to me a last month about the Yoerg cave and how they wanted a contact cave person for map info and caving safety info cause most of the police and fiefighters know little about the caves...I felt one of those feeling like something was gonna happen too soon!!! :(

Geeesh-those poor kids!!! the parents!!!! :( uuuuuuuuhhhhhh

Hello!

Seems like a long time since I was here for more than slogging.

Good to see OTS checking in again. Howdy OT and KT! I miss you both!

I miss all of you actually. Been way tooooooo long.

Work has been tough. We had to "workforce reduce" one of my staff due to budget issues. I hope I never have to do that again.

Otherwise we spend most weekends up north and try to keep up with demands on our time the rest of the time.

Hi Terry! Missed you too! Figured you were living the life of Riley up north and I'm jealous. Kind of slow in here but nice to hear from you.

Sad news me2. I remember when those boys died at Battle Creek back in the 80's that prompted them to close up and collapse some of them for the same reason. It's nice to know History but it's worthless if it's not passed on to those younger than you.

P.S. - Hi TV

well, have been talking with many people on this cave tragedy :(
soooo, the cave was sealed "way back when" - sandstone receads to expose access (very common)-someone gets in and lights a fire -the city sees it unsealed and they go to seal it again which holds the Carbon Monoxide -now the cave entrance errodes away again with not enough exits for the Carbon Monoxide to escape. kids go in and :(

soooo, our concern now is that they supposedly sealed this up again-not allowing the carbon monoxide to get out -so what happens when kids dig it out or it errodes again?

That particular cave is very deep -how did they even know when they sealed it that there wasn't anyone in it at the time? If they woulda checked for people then they may have been able to find detect the CO levels.

geeesh Anyone a chemist in here? How long can this deadly gas linger if it has no way out of a "test tube"?

I have considered getting a CO detector before but they run $1000.

Couldn't you buy one of those residential battery operated ones and hang it off a belt or something? They're farily inexpensive. Found some online for around $30.

thats for a portable CO detector by the way- there are a few different types out there for cavers- I havnt checked lately to see if the prices have dropped-I am sure one can be found on...EBay ;)

those are too bulky for small spaces -most caves are tight squeezes and not everyone can even fit through some of those holes-you want to travel as light as possible - these are handheld like a compass

Wed, 04/28/2004 - 8:53 AM Permalink
me2

well it broke $25 000 but then I went back and saw 200,000 more hits in 10 minutes and the price went up to 25086 then refreshed and it went down to $19000 something- I didnt know you could do that.

Pansies are very hardy. Just remember to pinch off the old blooms or they get all leggy and you don't get as many blossoms.
